Martin Biron breaks it down what Craig Berube will bring to the table as the Maple Leafs' next head coach as well as what his experience was like playing under him.
Leafs had Mike Babcock and it failed. If Mike Babcock can't win with the Leafs then no one can with the Leafs core 4 as the core 4 lacks mental toughness needed to win in the playoffs.
@@arthurau9231they were rookies & Babcock took them to the playoffs + took the president trophy winning Washington Capitals to 6games back in2016. Keefe coached less in the NHL then Matthews, Marner & Nylander all played in it. He was nevr the right choice since the beginning & I realized that aftr he blew the 3-1 series lead to the Habs but even the year b4 when they lost to the Blue Jackets shoulda been the wake-up call for management.
Bruh if they bring back this damn core expect nothing . Babcock n keefe couldn’t do It why the heck you think Craig will …. Insanity at its finest if they bring this core back
So long as those tickets keep selling out and the ''Bieber Buddies'' merchandise keeps flying off the shelves why would ANY of the financial backers of the Leafs care what happens to this team? Anyone who thinks this is about anything less than financial investment is still living in 1967...
@@Chris-ui9ij even moreso...why in the world would any GM in the league (minus Dubas of course) want to give up valuable short (or long) term assets for over-valued players who can't play in the playoffs, and in Marner's case whose agent has already said they intend to go to free-agency next year?!! Anyone thinking the Leafs will get back what THEY need in return are smokin' the ganja!
@@mattrix4200 leafs should not expect to get same value but at least focus using the cap space with decent signings especially defensively get 2 studs on defense n a goalie n I think leafs are fine . With new philosophy n change of play marner won’t be missed
Nope. he was brought in to make the core 4 work. If they won't work or adapt to Berube they will be gone. Those no trade/no move contracts won't mean a thing. One of the core 4 babies will request a trade.
Mike Babcock showed tough love and the players acted like spoiled kids and got Mike Babcock fired which is how they got to kid friendly Shelden Keefe. If Mike Babcock showing tough love towards the immature leafs core 4 didn't work, then it doesn't matter who the coach is because the Leafs core 4 lacks mental toughness in the playoffs.
@@arthurau9231 Babcock was an abusive weirdo, that's not tough love it's just abuse. He's the guy who scratched Mike modano so he couldn't play his 1500th game. Did the same thing to Jason Spezza in his return to Ottawa. Berube and Babcock are verry different.
I agree completely with Marty Biron, that, before Toronto Maple Leafs consider any decisions on The Core Four, they should see how they'll adapt or don't adapt to Craig Berube as coach. Also, as he said, with NMCs, they can't get into Bad Blood with all of these players, until Trade Deadline time, if they're not going to be in contention. Let me know what you think
He’s not a bad coach But without and unbelievably hot Binnington in net, Pietroangelo and Boumeester on the back end the Blues don’t make the playoffs let alone winning a Cup.
Out of all the coaches the Leafs have had over the past 20 years, Keefe was the only one to win a playoff round. Mike Babcock, Paul Maurice, Randy Carlyle, Ron Wilson... couldn't get past the first round as the coach of the Maple Leafs
I have the same opinion, but... I think Craig will bring structure to the team and who knows the core might succeed under him. Like Craig says, he's all about the team, (not individual success). We'll have to wait and see. I'm a Flyers fan, but I'd like to see the Leafs get over that playoff hump. Who knows maybe we'll get to see Flyers/Leafs playoff like in the 70s, but hopefully minus the blood.
That's a bit of a stretch. I'm a big fan of the Chief and I wish him luck. The leafs will improve, and hope it continues into the playoffs, where it matters.
The core 4 have been regular season successes. That is more than 50% of NHL teams & have made seasons fun & interesting for Leaf Fans. 😀 The hard part was playoffs.
Put up or shut up now. They got away with it as kids when it was Babcock. Not a chance in hell they get away with it with Berube at the helm. Unless Brendan is pulling strings in the background.
The shift from Berube having Jordan Binnington going on a Tim Thomas-esque bender to whatever the Leafs plan to do in goal for next season. I hope Berube is giving Binnington a cut if his salary because he singlehandedly got him this job. He's been (like the vast majority of NHL head coaches) perfectly average and unremarkable outside of the stretch when Binnington was on fire.
He coached a bunch of rookies and still made the playoffs as a WC and were huge underdogs against Washington and took then to 6 games and I believe 5 of those games went to OT. Babcock would've been a very good coach for them early on if he wasn't who he was off the ice.
Leafs had Mike Babcock and it failed. If Mike Babcock can't win with the Leafs then no one can with the Leafs core 4 as the core 4 lacks mental toughness needed to win in the playoffs.
The fact that he's already won a Stanley Cup means he's the WRONG man! Only one guy has ever won a cup with more than one team, in the modern era. That man is Scotty Bowman. Is Craig Berube the next Scotty Bowman? 🤣
Coaching change is part of the answer, not the answer. When GMs and Presidents start getting fired as much as coaches, they'll take their jobs with the same seriousness as coaches do. Dressing up in fancy suits doing nothing and having the best job security must be nice.
Leafs had Mike Babcock and it failed. If Mike Babcock can't win with the Leafs then no one can with the Leafs core 4 as the core 4 lacks mental toughness needed to win in the playoffs.
@@arthurau9231 That's the GMs job. To give the coach players that can succeed. Not to scapegoat the coach when they suck at their own job to save their ass.
And yet the oilers could have lost last night. Vcr was demoralized with Boeser out. They did manage to contain Mcdavid. Vcr had a great regular season, but they suffered a bit of the Leafs disease. Cranial cramps, they are not a killer team yet. Let's see what they do next year. But I wouldn't say they gave up on Tocchet. Just my 2 cents.
Berube is what the Buds need, too many players were not doing what is needed to win,he will not tolerate soft play. When Keefe had to walk back comments about certain players that said it all- the players were in control not the coach.
Matthews will be miserable with Berube behind the bench. Berube will demand his players to go to the hard areas on the ice and Matthews does not like going into the corners or into the slot in the playoffs, because that will come with a cost.
Why would any coach want too coach In the Toronto organization. They don't want to win ghe Stanley Cup.... If the leafs eant to win... They need to move some this FAKE 4 Or 5 over paid players.... This players are Part of the problem for not moving forward...
