This week on The Shooting Show, the team head to the Highlands for an exclusive grouse over pointers special. Amid the sweeping moorlands of the Black Corries estate, head keeper Davy Thomas leads our guns on a sharp-shooting double day at the grouse, complete with Scottish garrans, tireless pointers and some truly traditional sport. Day one features flighty birds and smoking barrels as two pairs of guns indulge in the pinnacle of shotgun sport. Day two presents Pete Carr with a shot at a much greater challenge; the game bag swells and the tempo of shooting soars. Watch the latest episode now for the some serious shooting action set in the rugged beauty of the Highlands.

Good show. To me there is nothing better in hunting than a pointed bird.

Great show. The guns should set an example by wearing ear protection though.

Hearing is an essential sense with upland game hunting. I have never seen anyone wear hearing protection

I wish this show came to America and hunted the south over pointers off horseback! Quail hunts. I would love to see the dog work!

What a delightful experience! The dogs did very well and the shooters made the best of their opportunities. I worked pointers on a grouse moor some years ago and it brought back fond memories. I truly appreciate the dress code and the honour/respect shown for the sport. The shooting form on the lady and the host could use a bit of honing. Keep in mind that these are shotguns and not rifles. Their canted positioning makes shooting very effective on straight-aways, acute angles and left-to-right flushes however right-to-left crossers will undoubtedly be missed - shots will be behind the birds as you corkscrew your torso in their direction. Square up a wee bit and it will not matter which way they chose to curl. Thank you kindly for sharing and bringing bad the memories!

Proper weight estate tweeds will last a lifetime, though you will have let out the waistband in due course, or pass them down to the kids. Comfortable, totally practical, worn with a dark shirt please. Always pick up your cartridges btw!

Completely random but did/has the maxus ever have a screw forend or has it been the quick release from day 1. I've seen one advertised but the forend has a screw cap. I'm a little sceptical as to whether it is a maxus or not (most likely not).

Well produced video. I hate what you're doing, but am researching for a story so it was very informative. Thanks for that.

I don't think it's an actual tune, but it has a pretty similar phrase to that found in the pipe tune "Andy Renwick's Ferret" first tune here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FuKEfSvowyc.html

way to formal for my ability. you need to try chukar and hun hunting in idaho. No rules of the hunt, just instinct freedom

Why kill snipe? It can't be for its meat - it's got nothing on it; and there are so few of them it can't be to control numbers - so, why kill snipe? Otherwise, a good show!

Most sporting estates are highly active in habitat creation. Careful population monitoring dictates numbers harvested during the season. A careful balance must be achieved and the shoot day is just the tip of the iceberg compared to what goes into it, not to mention the struggling non quarry species that also benefit. The subscription-funded lairds rarely lift a finger unless they can get lucrative funding grants, and thus they cannot forecast species status based on the poor breeding success of their own reserves....

I thought it was an excellent video that really caught the spirit of a day over dogs. Seemed like Wester Ross or thereabouts but reminded me of grouse shooting in Ireland over pointers and setters about 40 years ago or more.

Quite envious ,great couple of days Grouse shooting in magnificent countryside. One suggestion if the estate goes to the trouble of providing a Garron pony with traditional Wicker panniers , perhaps the "Piece" could be a little better packaged than sandwich bags? A lunch box with the logo of the Estate maybe? Anyway great show!

Sad that the country that gave us the English Setter over 400 years ago is no longer alive. English Setters are revered in the USA. As supreme cultured hunting dogs with absolute ability, style and class. Sad not too see them hunting in Scotland.

As a lover of the English pointer breed, going after highland grouse is something I wish I will be able to experience once in my life.

I would love to bring my American English Setter to Scotland to hunt Red Grouse! I know he would honor his heritage and really excel! At 75lbs he has the power to run the moor ragged but has an incredible nose! He is heat intolerant but runs like all hell even when it’s below 20! Remember heat intolerance means 80-90 degree heat! Rolls in the snow and goes like crazy! Love English Setters!
