The only thing I would suggest if you want them to breed is maybe a couple of plants in the back corner. Somewhere for them to moult too and hide whilst vulnerable. Other shrimp may attack and kill then during the moulting process. Plus maybe a couple of water lettuce. My shrimp love the roots of the water lettuce.

And a few rock piles. They love hiding in rock piles to have their babies! Plus, lots of biofilm will grow on those rocks too- so they can hide and snack in there too! If you have fist sized (or smaller) of Dragon Stone- they will go crazy playing and eating the biofilm in all the hideyholes!

tiger shrimp( caradina) also thrive in the same parameters as neo caradina. edit: if you want a successful shrimp breeding tank, having just a pile of big rocks for the shrimp to hide in is highly reccomended.(your lava rocks are too spread out for them to hide in while the molt) and if you put any floating plants in like hornwort or water lettuce, they do like to spend time near the surface too.

Love the simple tank so you can see all the shrimp! Also interesting to see pleneria, now I know what to look for. Would you be able to go over your water change system including the tap attachment sometime? I'm having no success trying to do something similar 😂 as always, love the video!
@MDFishTanks
@MDFishTanks 2 года назад
no probs. The tap attachement is just one that screws onto the tap. most taps have an end cap that unscrews and this attachment then screws onto that and has your standard garden hose male end. then its just some garden hose and an old filter inlet pipe to hook over the tank. I get the right temperature buy mixing the hot and cold to the right level (my tap is both temperatures mixed into one). Hope this helps.

Hey MD I breed neocaridina shrimp in just about all of my tanks. One good thing I have success with is to feed them bloodworms one every two weeks. It’s seems to induce breeding in my tanks. I also use Shrimp King food and especially their baby food when I see little ones running around. This is so they all can have a nibble due to large ones hogging the big food. I have over 100 in one of my 10 gallon tanks.

Hey MD. The row of small tanks look like they have have a small gap between at the bottom and touching at the top. This suggests the shelf is bowing and will be applying pressure on the glass. Worth a check 😅

I agree MD! I love snails! They do so much work for me, and I never have to buy anymore, just transfer some to a new tanks and let them multiply! If you keep your glass clean they aren’t obnoxious at all. And truly if you give them time they will overpopulate, and then dwindle off to a good amount for the tank. LOVE snails. 🐌

Hey MD Your video quality is awesome and Im try to learn from you from time to time if be honest. Like how quick you cycle the tank for few hours. I know you've used matured soil and seeded your filter that'll definitely help and Neos are quite hardy shrimp and they shod be alright. I normally cycle my tanks for 8 weeks but I mostly keep caridina shrimp. I hope to see some Caridina shrimp tanks in your fish room in the future. I know you didn't have much success with them before so my only advice - use reminerilised RO water for them and you'll be successful with them. UK tap water is not good for them, I learned it hard way
@MDFishTanks
@MDFishTanks 2 года назад
your def right. For caridinina, I think i def need to leave the tank to mature for at least a month and use RO re mineralised. It's a lot to take on this time so I'll stick to neo's for now.

MD "I got excited" best comment I think I've ever heard you say. I just love your build videos, your enthusiasm, your beautiful tanks & "excitement" is a true inspiration. Although I'm not a fan of shrimp this is a wonderful tank set up. I hope you have good luck with your breeding. I can't wait for your Cory only set up as they have also become one of my favorite fish & my Panda Cory's have actually produced 2 healthy clutches for me and are currently spawning so I am looking forward to some more baby pandas. I have actually been using this particular filter with the bio beads for the past year, year and a half. I have one in each one of my beta tanks and they do an absolutely fantastic job and for a 10 gallon tank I wouldn't use anything other than these particular filters. I'm not sure how many gallons the tank is that you're using but you don't really use a lot of filters aways due to your planted tanks so this filter should work perfect for you. I personally do not use live plants as I am not ambitious enough, however all of my tanks are well established, cristal clear and healthy. All of my fish are doing absolutely wonderful. As well as my Cory's spawning and producing young I am also getting multiple clutches from my Endler Guppies & my Sword Tails. (So I have MANY babies at the moment) so although I have no live plants other than some top floating plants more for decoration on the outside of the tank, my tanks are doing wonderfully. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful New Year and much luck, healthy and happiness in 2022.

Hey MD, since you have a dedicated fish room with no windows you could leave the lights off for 4-5 days- that will kill ALL algae in all tanks, including BBA, without harming plants or fish or shrimp. Worked for me. Take a 4 day vacation and leave the lights off! 🦐 🦐 🦐 🦐 👍

I've been watching you and I love how enthusiastic you are about everything. Your happy is infectious! I have been researching and watching videos like crazy because I want to get into aquascapong. I thought I had a solid plan with starting with dwarf gourami, but now I wonder if starting off with shrimp will be better/less expensive? I'm not sure.

I’ve used a chrysanthemum-based product like that that kills planaria, but it kills snails too. Maybe something to double check or keep an eye on
