When it comes to environmental storytelling, I wholeheartedly agree, BotW is *phenomenal*, but as for the cutscenes... Well, I find that a lot of them lean a bit too heavily on the tell aspect for my liking, but I'm nonetheless glad you enjoy the story as a whole! Also? Show, don't tell *absolutely* applies to writing as well. You can convey *so* much through actions, reactions, what is said and what is not, and it's an excellent way to inject world building without going all exposition dump on your audience (three guesses as to what my greatest passion is lol)

​@@AllegedlyHuman well, honestly, the fact they went for a tell approach in cutscenes makes sense. If your whole world works on show don't tell principles it can be confusing for some people to piece the story together, especially if they are children, neurodivergent or generally have issues with understanding subtle clues. Having some very clearly "tell" parts in a story that you want to be accessible to all age groups is very smart and healthy for the narrative

@@billcipher8645 lol, I am one of those neurodivergent people myself, I've just spent a lot of time deciphering how people work. There's nothing wrong with liking the cutscenes as they are, I just personally found it a bit disengaging to watch it all be spelled out, especially when it's just someone talking *at* Link, y'know, instead of having something more akin to an organic conversation. I far prefer TotK's cutscenes in this regard - and I will also readily admit not all of BotW cutscenes are exposition dumps. Some are actually great! Also, just editing to add, I totally get the accessibility issue, and I don't disagree, it's just not what would have been ideal for my personal, highly specific taste lol

@@Katt-ci6gw I think we all went a bit "...oh" by the amount of references to Mr. Iwata near Satori Mountain the first time we went there. Botrick, the Lord of the Mountain, the Sakura Tree, the lack of enemies when the Lord is there, and so on. During my first playthrough I had many "...oh" moments while exploring the place.

Same here, it’s just the best memorial I’ve seen for someone in a videogame, it really speaks volumes of the developers to sink so much effort into this one part of the world just to commemorate someone important to not only the game as a developer, but to the team as a person.

Koroks could be an extension of him in a way as well, in-game the koroks acting as a sort spiritual protection as long as you appeased the nature spirits with offerings. But also the desert, death mountain and the korok forest (ironically) have way fewer koroks in hiding than anywhere else. For koroks forest I assume is because all those others have left home and hope to take root eventually somewhere in the world. But they cannot survive the most extreme of fiery airs around death mountain and sands of the desert. (Note there is usually water or an oasis with good enough soil). Not sure what those ?metallic? puzzles you have to mirror to make them pop out of hiding, but there's usually food of some kind nearby.

I noticed that, too. I loved that lake when I found it and spent a long time just exploring the area.

I found eighteen koroks on Satori mountain, WAY more than anywhere else on the map... Coincidence? I think not!

Not sure if you could say he confined to this area, as you can ride him anywhere. It's just his home.

Blupees felt like more of a callback to the rabbits that hyrule used to have in the early Zelda games. I figured that's what they really were, spirits of a long extinct animal still attached to the lands they used to roam so so long ago. The running man in oot tells link that hyrule used to have a lot of rabbits, but that they went extinct due to over hunting. Link to the past/link's awakening were the (last?) games to feature any. If there's anything unsettling about them - because of course there would be - it's their face; they have a face of an owl.

Hmm that's a really good point actually!! The thing about the sage, is that we don't know when exactly he died and became the lord though. So if was semi recent then it still could have been his, but if not, it makes sense that it would be Quince's!! Thanks for sharing, thats a neat way of looking at it!!

@@Croton my assumption that he's old comes from the fact that it is at least somewhat known across the land that he's there or that weird stuff happens on the mountain. Quince heard about animals from somewhere before he went hunting after all and stable men, when trying to register Satori, speak of him like they know him from some old legends. Also, assumption with no real evidence, but I doubt the living sage would be able to cultivate Durian trees successfully on the mountain, given their requirements. I think they grew after he passed, as a result of divine protection of the being, which would point at it being reasonably long ago due to size of the trees (though it's magic, so they might as well gotten to this size instantly). Most importantly though, mountain is named after the sage. Name is in use and it is being used by Sheikah Tower map no less. I would assume the "scanning" that happens when you get the map refers to topology, not names cause... how would you scan names out of the ground, I have no idea. So, presumably, this name was used long, long before Hyrule even fell. How long, no idea, but Tower and Slate had to get them from somewhere, from some sort of records. That would mean sage lived and died at least 100 years ago, maybe more. Thinking about map theory more now, if Satori is named upon extraction of the map (which I think it is but would have to check) we can probably assume it existed and was named that 10000 years ago when Sheikah technology was being created and cared for, huh. Cause everything else, newer structures (that probably wouldn't survive all this time if they weren't newer), like Lon Lon Ranch, are all names that appear on the map as you get there, meaning it's probably Link inputting the names manually. But anyway, yeah, if passing of the Sage was semi recent, then your reading is likely and very interesting!

@@Drakenwild I think they took some liberties there. I mean the Shiekah map should be thousands of years old? But the orchards and stuff are definitely made by Satori and they should have disappeared so I think it's likely he died ages ago but they kept his legacy beyond what time would allow.

check out The No. 1 Guy's comment on this vid, he talks about the many parallels BOTW has with Princess Mononoke. Apparently Satoru Iwata took a lot of inspiration from studio Ghibli. So interesting :)

There is that possibility, but considering that there is no confirmed Hylian divine beast pilot (whom which the sage likely was), then he probably was not. Interesting thought though!! It still is plausible that he may of played some other key role - but we just don't have any more evidence to work with to confirm that 😅

And these were made for being eaten, so it will be a waste not to do so. Haha But I can't understand when people just think about the practical details of the things, like "it will respawn, you'll be able to get it later" I can't help but to try and apply real life logical to the game, like when I don't like to kill the animals
