I can’t believe he was diagnosed with schizophrenia (prior to any of this) and was found to be fit to stand trial and was tried as an adult even though he was a child 🤷🏼‍♀️ The kid was clearly very mentally ill and possibly mentally disabled

seems like his mother also had a factor to this case. should have tried helping him out more, though her death can never be blamed on her

This is my life right now. My brother stabbed my dad repeatedly . We are still glad he survived, but now he has facial paralysis among other things. The mental evaluation showed that he seems to have schizophrenia that has been untreated, so the court let him of easy with the promise that instead of jail he will go to an institution. The court required monthly updates. And my mom found a place that would take him and told the court what the plan was, and…..didn’t do any of it when he was released. It’s been a week and we are all so worried. She blocked all of us on social media and phone. 😣

I don’t want to overstep my place here but if you want him to be institutionalized maybe you or someone else can call the police, his parole officer, the district attorney or someone else that is involved with his case. Especially for a boy. In the US it's rare that boys/men speak up about being SA'd/graped because of what society says. I believe him as well.

It's not that simple though. It's not a matter of just truth or lie when psychosis is in the mix, he could really think it happened and have all the trauma associated with that without it having actually happened. Tbh his mother didn't help with the situation either, both for stopping taking him to therapy and treatment and for the way she dealt with the SA situation (whether real or not) All in all, I find it outrageous that he was deemed fit to stand trial. He's the textbook definition of criminally insane, he should have been sent to a mental facility to get treatment. It's really sad that justice systems are more concerned with demonizing people and getting this twisted sense of revenge and satisfaction at seeing a criminal getting punished than with actually prioritizing fairness and doing what's best for everyone

Even if he is truly schizophrenic (and I'm not sure he is), he still murdered his mother and attempted to murder his brother _with the knowledge and understanding that it was wrong._ The fact that he had a bag packed and fled is evidence that he knew what he was doing was wrong and/or unlawful. (In some states, there's a verdict available called "guilty but mentally ill," which indicates that the jury believes the person is mentally ill but also knew they were committing a crime and could have chosen not to do so. A person who receives this verdict goes to a secure mental health facility and receives treatment, but instead of being released upon successful treatment -- which is what happens to people found NGRI -- they are released to jail/prison to serve the remainder of their sentence.)

@@ruqayyahqadri8180 I'm not sure how that applies here. Broadmoor is a psychiatric hospital in England. This case took place in the US and is subject to US law. It honestly IS difficult here to be found not guilty by reason of mental defect. In my opinion, this case fit the definition to a 'T'. Additionally, it would not surprise me to learn that Zachary's brother assaulted him in *some* fashion (having four older brothers, I saw a lot of goofing off that got out of hand because someone got hurt or got the upper hand leading to further humiliation - usually having rug burns administered or soap scraped on their teeth, etc.) and his mother's dismissal of his complaint caused further anger and resentment to brew.

I agree with everything you said aside from "later finding out that her killer is your brother". Maybe I don't know the whole story, but she said that he woke up and went to get his mother, saw her, and ran to the neighbor's house. She didn't say he looked for his brother, as well. I would think that that meant that he knew it was his brother instinctively if he didn't look for him like he did for his mom.

I suspect it was a delusion caused by his schizophrenia, which he truly believes happened. Psychosis and schizophrenia can cause very vivid "memories" and dreamlike experiences which the sufferer will believe to be the absolute truth despite them never happening. I don't believe for a second that his brother harmed him in any way at all. Zachary's mental health was in a truly terrible state, he wasn't receiving treatment for it, and he was already suffering delusions that his father was constantly speaking to him and instructing him. The sexual assault is undoubtedly not a real event.

I believe him to. And what breaks my heart is someone in my family tried to do something to my daughter thankfully I walked in. And when I called the cops they said that they is nothing to prove my story, so it’s just my word against him with no proof. And my daughters statement didn’t matter because she could have “Coerced” into saying that. Which breaks my heart wondering how many kids this happens to and there is nothing being done. And most times the parents don’t believe the kids. Which is more heart breaking 😢

I believe him to a degree, my theory is that this attack was a symptom of his mental health and was maybe a very vivid dream or a hallucination, so in his mind this did really happen but physically it didn't. Maybe he argued with his mum and she said he was a liar because she knew it couldn't have happened when he was saying it did, maybe Josh wasn't even home at the time. I find the whole story kinda off somewhere and I think it's that. It DID happen to him but not in the capacity he believes it happened 👀🤔💭

Actually being in his classes, and listening to him speak, he wasn’t normal at all. You could feel such an off vibe about him. I knew he’d kill someone one day. I really thought he’d shoot Station Camp up.

I think this young man is on the spectrum but was never assessed. All his social skills point to that. Without a diagnosis at a young age he would not have gotten the correct support and guidance.

Have you considered the possibility that she could no longer afford to on a single mother's salary, especially after the family had to bear the costs of her husband's medical care? And have you considered that she may have had less time to spend with her sons after their father's death because she had to spend more time working to support her family?

the journal is what convinced me. the murder was only premeditated that day, so it’s not like he was writing fake journal entries for years to one day use it as a reason for why he killed josh.

Y’all are forgetting he is schizophrenic. They sometimes have delusions that look very real and vivid to them. To the point they will actually think these events happened. I honestly think this is what happened and he wrote it down because to him it was real. But honestly I don’t think we’ll ever know for sure if he was sexually assaulted or not because of his illness and who would ever admit to doing something like this regardless of if it’s true or not.

Just because he wrote it in a journal doesn't make it necessarily true. He could have made himself believe what happened was the truth, therefore he created this reality where it did happen when actuality it didn't

This. You don’t stop getting your child treatment for a treatable condition simply because they don’t like it. You wouldn’t stop giving a diabetic insulin, so why would you stop treatment for a mentally ill child.

You forget that he was heavily into true crime. He could have easily come across a lot of information about the signs of abuse and just used it to make his lies more believable.

Another reason why it could be so detailed is that schizophrenia makes some people with it suffer delusions that seem so real and vivid that they think it actually happened. I don’t think we’ll ever know if it happened or not.

​@Tre what makes that interesting is that if that is the case it means that even if it didn't actually happen, to him it did. To him he was actually physically violated.

This is the problem with psychedelics that isn't spoken about anywhere near enough. They are just promoted as some hippy, mind opening, peaceful happy time and perfectly safe. In a number of people they will cause a psychotic break and permanent damage. I have seen it first hand, and spent a long time surrounded by people who would always have a pocket full of LSD, some even from since before I was born and they told many a sad story.

I had a mate at school, a metel head that loved guitar and weed. Maybe 6 years after school I saw him on the train station so said hello, he talked monotone like this bloke and said he had just got out of a psych ward having eaten to many magic mushrooms. He said he had to learn how to do everything again, talk, eat, walk and he still had flashbacks that put him into that shroom state of mind every now and then. Totally ruined his life.

Pretty odd he put the sexual abuse into his diary where he didn't expect others to read about it too. Who lies about that and goes "Oh yea I should put that in my journal diary just in case it needs to add up later,"? The assault sounded graphic and who wouldn't adamantly deny it? Brother is suspish but the head smasher is no better

It could also have just been the psychosis making him believe that his brother sexually assaulted him, similar to how he heard his dad talking. When my sister was in the worst of her psychosis she accused her kids father of sexually assaulting them, but then when she was levelled out on medication realized it wasn’t true. She would believe all sorts of paranoid thoughts about everyone and would say things happened that never did until she was forced to take meds.

@@jessiewilkinson520 idk it's also different she might have been reading into her kids behavior or something happened to her and in her psychosis was projecting it onto her own kids, cause I've seen that too. I'm not a doctor. But I worked on psyc floor with some violent ppl and we had a women attack her BD claimed he bad touched their kids, come to find out her dad had done it to her, and after she had kids she just snapped cause it wasn't resolved...and this is how it was projected. So even his SA claims what if it was the dead dad or a mom's bf and maybe it focused on brother cause he wasn't a victim like him. We might not ever know unless there is proof. It just isn't normal to voice SA scenarios in psych breaks without some kinda truth/root cause behind it. Even religious psych breaks have a root cause....

I mean why wouldn't he lie? He's a killer. He blamed his mom for her own murder using weak excuses, and then he blamed his brother for assault and claimed that was the reason he did it. He's grasping for excuses that make him the victim, because he doesn't want to face the consequences of his actions; because he knows 'I was bitter my mom moved on and my brother isn't my bff anymore' isn't an excuse that justifies cold-blooded murder to a jury. I really don't think it's appropriate for people to be making public assertions of guilt toward a person whose only accuser is the guy who killed his mom. Imagine he's innocent and comes across this comment chain. What a horrible insult to injury for someone who has experienced so much loss.

I think people who have been abused as kids can be hyperaware, then when they have mental illness they can misinterpret things, or convince themselves it's happening to their own kids/relatives. As you say projecting their childhood abuse onto a loved one but also get stuck in a loop of believing a series of thoughts are reality & that can be very difficult to break.

I feel like he would have killed his brother similarly to his mom if he did assault him. To get his anger out on him for what he did. He didn’t touch his brother and just set the fire, which seems more passive to me than the brutality done on his mom. If they both wronged him like he says. But maybe part of his anger towards his mom was her dismissing what his brother did? I’m not sure

I lost my beautiful mom to mnd disease (ALS) she had the bulbar palsy form, she only lived for 9 months from first diagnosis. It was utterly devastating especially how young she was. If it's any consolation at all, I have a disorder called schizoaffective, which in my case is schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and when I was a child/teenager I was also refusing therapy and was not compliant with medication, but now that I am in my 20's and I'm older, I am now the opposite and regret being non compliant. The more you try to force it and there feels less of a choice, the more we refuse, but even with the others like me I've met, we tend to go through so much with it and change entirly, but it's really a case of it being presented as a choice. Stay strong, it must be really hard and I really look up to you.

Bless you and your family. I have a family member that is manic bi polar and schizophrenic... I can't imagine what your family is struggling with right now. My aunt has been in and out of institutions since the 1970's... on and off again medication. Her parents struggled to keep her in medical care but the way it's handled is awful. She has been a ward of the state since she was 25.

Yep I feel frustrated by the comments who are blaming the mother and saying it's her fault for not taking him to therapy. Raising children alone is hard, raising them alone when they have additional challenges like a mental or physical illness is even harder. Getting them to do things they do not want to do can be impossible. Also if she was battling her own mental illness with minimal support do you expect her to be a super perfect mother? Mums are people too! And I am not saying there's no possibility that the mother was being neglectful but there doesn't seem to be any evidence of extreme neglect like what people are implying outside of her murderers word.

If you knew more about the illness you might understand better. The reason I say this.. my aunt is a bi-polar manic schizophrenic. In HER reality, her father she believes to her core that her father had tried to kill her multiple times. She has also accused my grandmother of poisoning her. She can give detailed accounts.. and I mean it's like you are there it's so detailed. She told me once about an incident in which her father bashed her feet on concrete blocks, leaving her unable to walk. These things never happened... but the hallucinations are their reality. It's really a terrible illness. Very heartbreaking because I know in her realities those things happened.... but in actual reality she's just ill.

I’ve seen you write this out twice and I have to comment: bi-polar manic schizophrenic is not a thing. You can have bipolar (no hyphen) and schizophrenia but there’s no need to add mania to the list - it’s not a diagnosis it’s a symptom that’s implied with the bipolar one diagnosis. If your aunt has the type of bipolar that gets mania - it’s referred to as Bipolar 1. (Bipolar 2 only goes as high as hypomania - no psychosis not as severe) So I’d say it’s better to describe your aunt as Bipolar 1 and schizophrenic IMO. Not having a go, just a subject that’s close to my heart.

ALS ? it was called motor neurone syndrome for decades ! It's a very cruel illness Very hard on the family too His mother was clearly mourning the lose of her husband (possibly clinically depressed) hence the reason she neglected her young teenage son's needs.Ulimately it was a tragedy waiting to happen. My question is WHERE WAS THE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FOR THAT FAMILY IN THEIR TIME OF NEED ??? 😔

Medication unfortunately for most of us only dampen voices rather than get rid of them entirely but it's to make it manageable and to also help negative symptoms and delusions, I hope your friend is doing okay

Now she has lost weight and seems to feel more comfortable in her skin so that's why she does a more natural approach to makeup now I believe. She was stunning either way and at any size, this is just what I've perceived from being a fan for years, and as someone bigger myself and a redhead as well I totally get why she did it that way before and now.

Phil himself is an awful person apparently, like how teens are treated at camps he sends them to is crazy!

@@wildbeautyunderneath4735 Nah. He doesn't go to the camp himself, he wouldn't have known the people were treating the kids poorly. People just want to cancel him because they are bored, and find it fun to ruin people's lives.

@@mooma10 So because they aren't responsible making sure where they send kids/teens is safe makes it okay? With all the claims as well if you heard that hey the camp you send people to have serious claims, and or actual death you might I don't know do research. So they are just a cash grabber wanting attention and fame, without even trying to truly help people. Similar to make other talkshow stars, they just care about looking good while doing awful things.

He's not to blame in that situation at all, the abusers are. Stop blaming the innocent, just like I said, you're bored and like to ruin people's lives for fun.

@@mooma10 Innocent? Not even close. Vet the place you are sending youths. Doesn't matter who thinks they are trouble, their claims mean something. They should not be isolated, or raped, or tortured. It's similar with boarding schools, no one cared about the abuse there until Paris Hilton came out about their time there. Suddenly, the world cared about all those claims building up over years, and slowly rules changed. Which those kids still aren't safe. Oprah's school in Africa also had its sure of things that should have never happened. Doesn't matter though you put your name on this place, it is your responsibility for it. If you have the claims then figure out why no matter what, or better yet find better places. Or even better actually try to help the youths, not just tossing them away pretty much. Give them skills, and make them safe. If you can't see the issue with not following the claims he heard, or stop sending youths to there altogether putting them in harms way you are not worth talking to. Being blind isn't the answer we need to stop writing of famous people for allowing awful behavior just because they are famous. Phil is not innocent they blood is on his hands, and those living with the damage are his fault. He deserves jail, and to have his life ruined. Just as anyone that stands by and lets abuse happen should get.

Agreed, but as a kid with a mentally ill suicidal mom at 15, it's hard to cook for your mom and brother daily, clean the house, grocerie shopping, take care of literally everything In the house while also having lots of homework/ exams after school. You have stress from school, your home situation and not having any chance to relax and be a 'normal' 15 year old. You can't go to your mom with your problems, since she has her own. You're all on your own at that point.
