Tales From the Bottle takes a rare look into the supernatural, and a man whose story demands an answer to the question; "do you believe?"
"Edgar Cayce (March 18, 1877 - January 3, 1945) was an American self-professed clairvoyant who gave 14,306 psychic readings while allegedly in a self-induced sleep state. Cayce maintained his subconscious mind (which he identified as the "mind of the soul") would leave his body and retrieve knowledge from the spiritual realm where all subconscious minds are connected. He is the most documented psychic of all time, with more than 300 books written about him and his material. A nonprofit organization, the Association for Research and Enlightenment, was founded to store and facilitate the study of the Cayce material. A biographer gave him the nickname The Sleeping Prophet.
Cayce is considered "the father of holistic medicine" by The Journal of the American Medical Association, most of his readings diagnosed illnesses and suggested natural remedies. He is also notable for his contributions to the notions of diet and health, particularly the issues of food combining, acid/alkaline diet, and the therapeutic use of food.
Some consider him the true founder and a principal source of the most characteristic beliefs of the New Age movement"

A demon with the gifted soothsaying took over Casey in the Bible he liked to read so much, there was a demon who possessed a servant girl and did similar things. However, when Paul the apostle got annoyed by her following him around and screaming prophecies, he rebuked the demon it came out of her, and she lost the ability all together. And that is how Paul and his companion Barnabas got run out of another City in Palestine. Had mr. Casey come into contact with any real strong Christian, he would have lost the ability completely through exorcism. That demons purpose was obviously to spread the occult and astrology into a Christian society. It's not too complicated, just taking advantage of people who are ignorant about God himself and just know the Bible a little. You see the wolves go on the outside the flock where the old and weak are, they don't go into the center where the ram is.

If it's true then this kinda, at least partially, validates him, since most "psychics" are just people looking to make a quick buck off of gullible people. (by gullible I mean people who don't know better, not that they're unintelligent or anything. There's just a lot of easy techniques one can use to trick people into thinking you have some weird mind reading powers that I think a lot of people are unaware of) Of course, he could just be an attention seeker, so there's that...
@y_fam_goeglyd

I believe he took "donations", at least at one point. Encouraged to be generous. *But* I can't give sources to that because I can't remember where I heard it, so take it as you will. (Wrote this before it was mentioned on the video, so I take heart that at least part of it is confirmed. That makes him a fraud in my mind.)

How did he live if he wasn't making money? "Charitable" contributions . . . Money from his "marks." And the whole point of being a con-man is defeated if you can't effectively fake being a really nice guy.

He doubted his ability so much he didn't use it on his own baby but was willing to use it on other people. Not everyone is motivated by money but that doesn't mean he didn't gain some personal benefit from it, even if it was immaterial. It also seems to me like someone like him would very often attract people who had illnesses that couldn't be so simply cured so him having so much success makes me wonder if there was some kind of selection process going on before a reading was allowed.

Everything you said about the charlatanism of the psychic industry (which I also agree with in most cases) can be applied to the pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries among other things. The framing of statistics in their favour is the primary way these players seek to corner the market and eliminate or buy out the competition. This is unrelated to the validity or safety of their own product, it just means that if the competition has more value or is safer, knowledge of these things need to be discredited or suppressed more. For example: The matchstick and radium girls, leaded petrol, allopathic medicine, etc. There's a difference between true skepticism and being a partisan disbeliever of certain ideas. The former questions everything without prejudice and is therefore able to seek and find objective truths no matter how uncomfortable or unpleasant, the latter doesn't like to address anything outside their comfort zone and is commonly referred to by people with insider knowledge as a dupe or a mark.

I grew up in the same area as Mr. Cayce and grew up with stories of him. He was a good, sincere man. It was very difficult for him to accept his extraordinarily gifts. I have read all his books. He tried his best to do the right thing. You can believe or not, the facts speak for themselves.

Cayce seemed to have genius levels of Intuitive Associative Reasoning and Cognitive Synthesis. Vacating or altering his consciousness naturally through a sleep state is interesting. Achieving peak state while the subconscious is dominant is rare. I thought bio-specific, neuroactive anesthesia was required. People with aptitudes similar to Edgar can find life to be frustrating. If self-destructive tendencies are also present, they can be magnified big time. Although being able to rationalize oneself into a fantasy world does plugged into the real world, is a spectacular skill! Describing uncommon perceptions in lengthy streams-of-consciousness can be exhausting to those around you.

I really like this kid more and more. Especially after hearing him say that he doesn’t believe in nonsense ghosts and ufos and skinwalker ranch nonsense and mothmen. Which for me there are a lot of good channels I start to like and then they all can’t resist talking about the supernatural shit. I’m only a couple of days into this channel and am liking more and more what I see. Also the length of the videos are perfect. No 55 minute video for what you can tell in 15. I don’t know how old this channel is but from what I’ve seen out there comparably he should have about 2 to 5 million subscribers. Keep up the good work.

This was a great video on documenting Cayce's life. It reminds me of the Brazilian healer Arigo, who apparently operated on medical patients while also in a trance. With no medical training or formal education. And just a rusty pen-knife which he barely kept clean. And apparently everyone he treated would say they barely would feel any discomfort during his operations.

I think the thing the differentiates him from all other major "psychics" was that he was reluctant to use his power to give people medical advice, presumably out of fear of killing someone, and after accepting the idea of using his powers he sought to do it for free.

Remember, our eyes only perceive a small fraction of the light spectrum which means in the vast majority we cant see those things that dwell within our blind spots. 2nd, nature is far weirder and more unbelievable when you consider quantum mechanics and its double slit experiment or the mechanics of black holes.

I think it says a lot about the poor medical knowledge of the time that he stopped doing readings for gambling because they weren't accurate, but continued doing readings for medicine and saw them do no worse than trained doctors. As far as his actual behavior, going into a hypnotic trance isn't the same thing as sleeping, it's just entering an altered state of mind. And it's absolutely very common for people who believe they are psychic to continue to do so because they see themselves give people hope or excitement and think that they are bringing good into the world and not just hope and placebo.

I'm about as skeptical as one can be when it comes to the supernatural and psychic phenomena. That being said, certain aspects of real human psychology or physiology that we now know are quite real were once dismissed as woo-woo nonsense. Like skin-to-skin contact for newborn babies and their mother, or meditation and mindfulness in general. Even the concept of stress. It would be kind of arrogant to think that there will never be anything that turns out to be true that we currently dismiss.

I grew up with family members that somewhat believed in some type of premonitions/extra sensory perception because of a couple of odd events in my families past. I was always on the fence about this stuff, still unsure now. I've questioned the possibility of it in recent years following unusual events and memories that I had during a medically induced coma. To top it off, I've recently been learning about quantum physics and found out about the odd behaviours of matter governed by quantum mechanics that led a lot of hippy/scientists in the 50's to believe we had found evidence of how psychic activity could work. It's very weird and worth looking into but isn't concrete evidence still. Aside from extra sensory perceptions though, I've always been a deep believer of reincarnation since I've been old enough to remember and my recent interest in science has only reinforced that belief because matter cannot be created or destroyed in the universe and neither can energy, which is only ever changed from one form to another. If consciousness is a concept governed by the laws of quantum mechanics then tell me what you think must happen to the consciousness of something when it dies

This reminds me of a physicist named Tom Campbell. This man has worked on US military missiles and NASA for decades, yet he believes that there is more to this world. I am a sceptic also, but apparently in the 1970s', Tom was introduced to a book by his boss about meditation physics/consciousness (or something like that, as I say, I am sceptical) and the author didn't live far away. They went to the authors mansion and it turns out the author was a millionaire who had multiple acoustic isolation chambers and supposedly owned a cable company (Robert Monroe). Over the course of 40 years, he dedicated his life to studying consciousness. Tom basically believes in a kind of simulation theory based on quantum entanglement and the split particle affect (I may be wrong as I have not read the book, entirely). The most simplest way to put it, is that everything is energy and energy cannot be deleted - only converted. So, in the case of death, it is like a light bulb breaking. Sure there is no light anymore, but there is still energy travelling through the circuit, the energy is still there; all we need to do is replace the bulb. It is like a collective consciousness or data stream (like the internet) that we can access with subconscious - apparently. What strikes me as similar, is the fact that Tom, has created a giant book and released all his information for free called My Big T.O.E. You would think after 40 years studying a subject that you would want to cash in a little, but Tom seems to believe it and offers his books for free. I sound like an advertisement, however, I am just pointing out a more unique perspective on life from an educated mind, as it is very unusual for a man who literally helped develop military missiles and worked for NASA (literally a rocket scientist lol) to believe in such theories.
