This scene (in its full version) as it goes back and forth between the two songs, is pretty much why my favourite season is Season 3. SUCH a stylish episode to kick off a great season. Part of it is because I loved that period in my life when this season first aired, I was 10 and I remember one Sunday evening where my parents and I went out for Chinese food a bit early to catch the show when it aired later that evening, but I love all the plot lines (including how stupid Jackie Jr is). It felt “colder” than any other season and I don’t mean artistically, I mean the climate somehow felt extra cold in this season. Plus it’s the only *entire* season to feature both Furio and Ralph; Furio comes in midway through Season 2, then they both leave midway through Season 4. I just feel like Season 3, the Sopranos was absolutely firing on all cylinders.

I liked the wiretap storyline, and more generally all the FBI stuff

Not for nothing, but this is clearly proof that despite what most fans say, towards the end there, Skip and Puss REALLY were becoming legit FRIENDS. It doesn’t take a genius to realize initially that they were both trying to manipulate eachother for personal gain but as time went by, Puss all of a sudden wants to be an FBI agent and slowly starts to resent Tony for passing him up for captain while at the same time, Skip starts becoming more and more enticed over the big money Puss brings in as he also complains about being stepped over for promotion by his new boss. This was intentional to make fans think one of them was full of sh*t in order to build trust and manipulate the other, but over the next episodes, Skip starts showing genuine concern for Puss’ safety and even covers up serious crimes for him that reguardless of scenario would get him fired. Soon after, Skip’s superior called him in to remind him of what he’s suppsed to do and worries he is slipping up with his informant. Then, during the final meeting between the two, Skip makes it very clear that Puss needs to stop thinking everything is going to be ok because as a handler, he knows from experience that things are most likely not going to end well for him. Obviously we all know what happens to Puss after that and right when that storyline is sadly over, why would David Chase show Skip *(WHO IS CLEARLY OFF DUTY!!)* sitting outside Satriales with not only no backup, but in his personal, untinted car which exposes him to his enemies putting him at risk of getting caught and either killed or the possibility of blowing the assignment and getting into more hot water at work. Upon noticing he may have been spotted, he peels out while speaking into a recorder to let his whereabouts be known if something were to happen. Why would this scene be shown once Puss is dead and Skip is now irrelevant anyway? Because it shows the emotion and absolute devastation that of a guy for what is supposed to be his natural enemy or “the bad guy” in his books. Initially Skip was using Sal to get the info he needed to advance his career under the pretense of the guy being a degenerate mobster and this shows you that in life things aren’t always black and white as a guy deemed to be working for the good guys in his books ends up learning that his side is not much different setting up informants to pretty much get killed. This also was the most brutal first hand example that even though he was mad at his work colleagues and envied the wealth and power guys like the Puss had, in the end, he was better off dealing with his problems than ever having to face what Sal did.

Too bad about the bromance between Lispari and his quote on quote...."Husky Accomplice"
