Pls talk about how to actually kill a daemon, not banished but actually kill. In WH40k Inquisitor Martyr, a special individual able to kill a Daemon permanently. I think that would completely break the game😅😅
@Ian Farquharson It's definitely possible to get them without spending money. I haven't spent a dime on this game. That being said though, people can definitely pull ahead of you if they drop a few bucks. That's why I don't bother competing to be the best.
When talking about the Wulfen I like to bring up Bran Redmaw, the Wolf Lord of the Bloodmaws. The Wulfen Curse has a big influence on the Bloodmaws and Bran Redmaw is said to be tainted by the curse himself. He leaves command of his men in the hands of his Battle Leaders (LTs) and takes to the field alone or with a pack of wolves. He then transforms into a 12 foot tall Wulfen called the Redmaw. While in this form he still retains his sense of cunning rather than being a mindless beast. When the day is won, Bran returns to his men, an Astartes of the Vylka Fenryka. The other Great Companies are weary of the Bloodmaws and Wolf Priests keep a constant vigil over them though the company has always proven themselves.
Now that you mentioned how the space wolves are created, can we get a video/series on how every type of space marine is created? Maybe even a video/series on how every other faction gets more recruits Edit: i know most space marines are made in the same way but im talking about the rituals and/or tirals each recruit has to go through to become a full member of their chapter
Most are created the same way. It's the views and actions of the legion plus the belief of their primarch which makes them what they are. I believe but I'm sure Wes might sort us out with a deep dive into all factions
A Space Wolf is like a wolf dog, a cute and pretty decent pet but you know that they're going to do whatever the fuck they want to do no matter what you say.
@@etinarcadiaego7424 My neighbour got one of those. Turns out they are not just dogs that look like a wolf. 🤦♂️ Thankfully they found a Wildlife park that took him in. I kept telling them that hes gonna kill someone someday.
The bestial nature of the Sons of Russ is such an untapped potential. Just imagine all that their Successors could be beyond just "wolves in other color" ! Like, they should tap into many a predatory behavior, as the new Chapters evolve beyond the influence of Fenris. Really, Primaris Sons of Russ were an awesome addition which was really, really needed in my eyes.
Imagine, many descendant chapters of the space wolves will mutate(depending on planet and environment) into any bestial monstrosities to protect the imperium of man. Chaos will think twice if they’ve heard that the sons of russ are coming.
@@AlexSlate211 I've always though it strange that no Legion was named after a bear. Two Wolves, two Angels, two dragons, two hands/fists and I'm sure I'm forgetting others.
I would have to disagree about their bestial behavior being underused. I would think it's overused entirely. Not as bad as the overuse as wolf and frost though.
I don't mind Corax being a Daemon. But I strongly disagree with Russ being a Wulfen. I hope GW doesn't go that way. And instead goes with an older, wiser, Odin style.
Wes just has such a happy face/pleasant smile. It warms my heart a little, which is really good when we're so often diving headfirst into the grimdark. Thanks for the content, Wes!
I wonder if the Space Wolves were the legion that were “meant” to be corrupted by Khorne, rather than the World Eaters. Angron was easier to corrupt because of the nails, but the Space Wolves are so melee-focused and have powerful beast forms. It’s honestly impressive that they haven’t fallen to Khorne Edit: I’ve seen a few dornian heresy kitbashes, but not many. I have seen the one where the Angron model is changed to Russ. That’s part of the reason I’m on this train of thought, ngl. But there’s more to it than that. Khorne is said to often be depicted as a warrior with the head of a wolf in cultures that worship him. That makes me believe that the wulfen curse was deliberately put there by Khorne. After all, who would really make a better champion of Khorne? An empath boi who got turned into a mad boi, or a big scary wolf boi?
@@rayhanmustakim7073 I edited the comment with the answer to your question along with some more reasoning. I wouldn’t usually do that, but I honestly think it’s important
Thats a good point. Without the nails Angron and the world eaters would be very hard to turn to chaos. They probably weren't intended to be a chaos sacrifice if the big E knew some would eventually turn. Angron was supposed to be one of the most honorable and empathetic primarchs. Heck he got the nails because he refused to fight Onomeous in the arena. The emperor probably saw what became of his design and that's why he treated Angron so poorly compared to the others in order to make sure this ruined legion was the one that fell to chaos instead of his originally planned one We can also assume big E didn't intend on Magnus and the thousand sons turning. So what was the other primarch he intended to fall? Johnson, Dorne, and Bobby G are probably out. If we assume the space wolves were intended to fall that leaves ferrus, vulkan, jaghatai, and Sanguinius. Jaghatai would probably be most likely since many assumed the white scars would fall anyway. Theyd be sent to Tzeentch whereas the space wolves to khorne. White scars have always been more of a thinking legion that remained loyalist because it was the best option over chaos. The Emperor could've made himself seem just level headed enough to the khan to flip that balance on him being the better option. Alternatively it couldve been Sanguinius but that'd mean big E designed two legions to fall to Khorne. Emps could've programmed in their flaws so they fell but when he realized Angron was a lost cause he had to double down on the golden hawk boy and treat him as the best of the primarchs to make sure he resisted his designed fall to chaos. Chaos tried very hard to get Sanguinius over Angron anyway. It was close but he never fell
"There are no wolves on Fenris" - Fenris was colonized during the Dark Age of Technology - As a death world the original colonists were "modified" to suit the environment - Their genetics were combined with _something_ to allow survival in severe cold conditions - The Emperor also added animal DNA to some of the Primarchs - There are no Wulfen in the VIth Legion prior to the discovery of Fenris by the Crusade - Helix is a spiral (DNA is a double helix) When all of this is combined, it stands to reason that the "curse of the wulfen" is nothing more than the combination of wolf and human DNA to an elevated (unstable) level. Why would those of the 13th have an exaggerated effect from the "curse"? Because the Warp has a mutating effect and mutation is a change in the DNA. Before a Fenrisian undergoes the trial, he has the wolf DNA he was born with and is made stronger for it. During the Test of Morkai, additional wolf DNA is introduced causing the DNA of the aspirant to become unstable. If he survives, he continues his training/testing. If he succumbs, he is forever bestial until he dies. Then again, though all of the facts presented are canon, the conclusions are solely my opinion.
@@CBRN-115 No, not at all. It's not that the "wolves on Fenris" were once people. It's that what we call "wolves on Fenris" are no longer wolves. Hence, there are no wolves on Fenris. In the stories there is a definite distinction between wolves and wulfen in the Fenrisian wilds. Wulfen were once humans, though they are double modified. Once at the time of colonization and once during the Astartes trials. It is this additional genetic change (from Russ) that crates the wulfen curse. Great name BTW!
@@lazlopwent7960 I like the theory and i play 13th since eye of terror codex. But its wrong or been retconned I think there is terra born space wolves who turned wolfen but I know there is ultima founding primaris that have turned wolfen and their dna has no connection to fenris natives.
@@Fenrisaiyan Interesting. It could have been retconned as the "first" wulfen emerged when Russ elevated his old followers on Fenris. His long-time companions on Fenris were considered too old to become astartes, but they tried anyway. The survivors of the process were then designated the 13th Company. So much lore was changed to allow for Cawl's progeny that anything is possible (especially if Cawl's name is on it). It's good to see a fellow Long Fang still interested in the game/setting. My first Wolves were at the beginning of the 2nd Edition.
@@lazlopwent7960 Respect I started 3rd but only had a couple squads when eye of terror codex came out and I was like yes I have not bought tanks yet anyway. They have done bits of lore with the 13th effecting other marines to be more likely to turn wolfen. Maybe we could say the psychic presence of Russ after he met the rout was a catalyst that then both the Terra and Fenris born had the curse. There is a bit from horus pov that the rout snap to attention and seem more disciplined then he ever as soon as they met Russ. New theory if Russ was around being alpha wolf the wolfen wolf be less berzerker and more pack hunter moving almost by the will of the wolf king. Also do we have to teach the youngins about the diff between being a psycher and sorcery they seems to be growing misinformation about the council of nikea. Russ has no big problem with navigators or his dad or Fenris shaman or the astropath its sorcery he was against.
Same here. Wes shorts got me into the lore. Majorkill got me invested in the individual characters that he always explains. Once i have a 3d printer im going all in on this hobby.
@@calebtheholyman545 Majorkill got me into this franchise with his memes and jokes he made the lore funny and easy to take in, Leutin made me want to learn more in depth but his videos are so long, but Wes however makes that perfect middle ground of lore accuracy and funny memeiness that I love with that perfect length of 30-50 minutes
I've only ever been mildly interested in the Space Wolves, mostly just the Emperor's Executioner stuff, but this was a really good video. I am now curious about the Wulfen/Wolfen? and now have to add THIS to the list. Like I needed another thing. That's a long list I got. Thanks, Wes.
LOVED! EVERY! MINUTE! OF! THIS! My favorite chapter is the Space Wolfs and Leeman Russ. And for your excellent work. You sold me on Tacticus... Cheers!
he didn't have to drink the Canis Helix and he's not like the trans-Humans of the 13th great company ( older fenrisians that seemed to be the ones most susceptible). if they have him return as mutated into a Wulfen like creature that's just shitty writing
Thanks Wes, I was waiting on my second favorite legion's Wulfen video, and your voice acting is top notch. 👌🏾 Now if only we could get more info on the Space Sharks... 🙏🏾
When the Space Marines aren't Space Marine enough you Space Marine them. YO I heard you like them Space Marines, so I put your Space Marine in your Space Marine so you Could Space Marine while you Space Marine harder. Wes putting out a video at the end of my 10 hour plus grind to try and get Vex Mythoclast in D2 is a blessing to help me calm down from my hype of getting the gun I have been chasing for 2 years haha. Great Video as always my dude. I am about half way through while typing this.
Let me get this straight. The Dark Angels were mad that someone abandoned them in the middle of combat. The Dark Angels do that all the time! I guess what goes around comes around.
Wes! Your narrations are PHENOMENAL I tell ya.....but I had a lil itty bitty bit of a chuckle when for a sec there......Bolvi started to sound a bit like a rastafarian🤣🤣🤣😉
Reminds me of when PETA was like "those animal pelts are cruel!" and then the people who knew were like "uhm... that's not animal pelts... there are no wolves on fenris" :D
Just a thought, but if all the wolfen were getting restless an aggressive just before ferris was attacked, could they have sensed their home was under threat and were reacting to it?
From what i remember from the space wolf omnibus; they dont just immediately throw you out after the implementation of the canis helix and the first few gene implants. Theres quite a few steps. You get some time to get used to it and are then thrown out into the wilderness for the test. Its the ultimate test on whether you can overcome the beast...or it overcomes you. Still, great vid wes. You sum it up pretty well for the most part.
you remember correctly. they were kept in cells while the grew and adapted to their heightened senses. being released into a common are for feeding. it took a few weeks at least.
@@timh1319 Good to know. I thought the entire experience was pretty gnarly. Like how ragnor got attacked by his rival (forget his name) and beat him up and just left him there. The way it was described they fought was pretty savage too. They bunched their hands like they had claws. The whole thing reminded me of a huge dog kennel where anything goes.
Great vids love them all I have never played 40k but have always been drawn to the lore..and you help with that fix thank you tons for that..have you considered doing a deep dive on the Blackstone fortress's..I think with your unique style of research and delivery it would be fantastic vid
Even when wes tackles more mainstream topics he still allways tells some few or lot things i a RU-vid lore junkie don't know and allways brings an interesting rare point of view from somewhere within.
Wes, I say this with love and on the spirit of disseminating knowledge. I received this from others. Sputum is pronounce with the long u in the first syllable. Spyootum. Keep making awesome vids!
I think this could be an interesting idea for a Space Wolf successor chapter, where this curse is diluted enough, that they don't turn into Wulfen, but can tap into it, so they are more along the lines of a traditional werewolf, and can turn back afterwards, but have to deal with other side effects, like customizing their power armor in a way, that allows for the change from a plantigrade to a digitigrade movement, or helmets, that have room for a Lupine muzzle, maybe even being able to open, so the Marine in question can bite an enemy without having to remove their helmet first.
There is a meeting with the 13th company and a whole thing with Wulfen in the Ragnar books, specifically Wolfs Honour, where Ragnar meets several of the 13th company, including Bulvei. In it the Thousand Sons are enacting a ritual to cause all space wolves to turn into wulfen, thus making them outcasts of the Imperium. Ragnar and the 13th company members fight against it and the non-wulfen members of the 13th have an authority about them that even the wulfen respect. It was a good book.
This so unbeleiveable well done, nothing Leutin09 ever done trumps this. Jesus christ I almost cried during the story-parts with the voice acting. Wes is uncontested best ever WH40K channel, so cool!
I think you missed Ragnar Blackmanes interaction with the 13th during the space wolf novels. When he was chasing the Spear of Russ within the Warp. Other than that, amazing video!
I know the popular thing is that the Emperor "intended" some Primarchs and their Legions to fall to chaos or eventually be turned against one another and purged in a civil war, but I like to look at the numbered list of Legions as the Emperor's various, sometimes similar attempts at how best to achieve loyalty. The Dark Angels (originally Uncrowned Princes) have this noble idea that loyalty is its own reward. Dunno about the second legion because that went poorly. The Emperor's Children had a faith and fervor that made them loyal. The Iron Warriors were to have loyalty out of stubbornness. The White Scars were loyal by communal association and pride in their own rich culture so that they didn't mind being treated with distrust by others they were loyal to. And the Space Wolves achieved loyalty with genetic manipulation to ingrain it into them like man's best friend where they don't think about it, they don't rationalize it, they're just loyal because it's written into their DNA. While effective, achieving loyalty that way seems to have its downside.
just saying would love to see you talk about the solar auxilia charonite ogryns. never see anyone mention them even tho they were insanely cool. also really good vid i never looked into space wolves lore but i think ima check it out now
Really loved the wulfen in legacy of the wolf. They were just really cool I thought plus I’ve loved them since I read the old school Ragnar blackmane series which got me into 40k to begin with
This is unrelated to the video, but Weshamner should do a weapons episode on all the different bolter rounds. I was wondering what was Inside them and holy crap there are a lot of different types of bolter ammunition.
I recommend changing Space Wolfs to Space Pugs. I mean look at their face. I mean just hearing Thunderpug or Old Pug. Second suggestion is Space Corgis
Read the Ragnar Blackmane books, they are some of the best Space Wolf stories out there, and tell a great deal about the Wulfen Curse from Ragnar's own perspective.
The end times is a space viking mead hall called "the end times" Oh and wes a space wolves mead hall thats smells like a kennel and split mead sounds like a good place for a drink. People forget that the character of a place makes it all the better.
There were elements of the 13th at the Battle of Trisolian, most likely they were elements that didn't have the chance to join with Russ at the time of the great muster for the attack on Prospero
Anyone in the scene knows the space marines are top tier warriors. Man the idea of a massive wearwolf clad in power armour is nightmare fuel. Not only are the space marines so massivly massive, a even bigger wulfen furry and with huge teeth sounds so scary.
Honestly in being a Norse Pagan, and someone loving such mythology in lore adapted. I have a theory of the Wulfen. I believe the Cannis Helix gene seed was something of a mutation from the augmentation done by the Emperor of Mankind adapted to both Sanguineous, but also Leman Russ. Because it is outlined by a novel that both Primarchs had to undergo additional gene seed modification. Even to the point that the Mechanicum spotted this defect in the Space Wolves gene seed as going back to the days of the Emperor. What I wonder is, the spark or primordial fire stolen from the Chaos Gods to create the Primarchs. In fact is the additional hiccup if you will when met with the genetic traits like those on Fenris or Baal create the conditions that bring about: Curse of the Wulfen The Blood Thirst The Black Rage However this is a speculative theory.
I absolutely hate the Space Wolves. They are the worst hypocrites. “Thousand Sons! We hate you, for you employ sorcery and psykers!” “You have psykers. I’m looking at them.” “NO! They are RUNE PRIESTS! It’s COMPLETELY different!” “No it isn’t.” “It is! Also, you have the flesh change! Your geneseed is unstable! You turn into monsters!” “Umm. What are those?” “Nothing.” “Those werewolf things who undergo a flesh change and turn into mindless monsters are noth…” “It’s not the same thing! You use sorcery and turn into monsters. We use rune magic and turn into, um, stronger, hairy, violent, mindless, killers who LOOK like monsters. Completely different.”
