With the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise lasting more than 20 years, artificial intelligence has a ton of data for Squidward Tentacles and all the other characters in the show. Recently, AI Squidward song covers have been appearing on RU-vid and TikTok, signaling a very serious potential problem for the music industry. How are these AI Squidward covers so good?

You'll then read an AI-generated news article on your phone, get to work where you'll hear AI-generated songs on the radio as you do the only job still done by humans (hard manual labour, of course). You'll get home and watch an AI-generated movie, using AI-generated voices and eat an AI-ordered meal for dinner before going to bed at the optimal AI-calculated hour.

It's so frustrating, they are using AI for this instead of using it to replace the job that are a risk for human lives. I was reading the other day that there are jobs in India I think where people have to recicle ships and it is a very dangerous job where people can die, lose limbs, get severely sick, etc. And people can only do said job like for 10 years before getting handicap because of it and continue in poverty. The situation makes me so angry

Nothing personal but there's technical reasons caused this direction of development .. first, the physical world is way harder than the digital world so AI will advance faster and much more than robotics .. second, creativity and creation (what people want to do) can withstand lots of errors than precise boring work!

The problem is not the advancement of AI... the problem is when corporate takes over and starts replacing humans with it just to cut costs and time. If workers and audience don't do anything about it, in a decade or less probably most of the content of the industry will be AI generated. AI is a tool, and as every other tool, is cool to use and develop it, but I think there's limits that shouldn't be crossed, and money is the one who speaks louder...

It's not actually that advanced, the performance and voice is Frank Sinatra's, but mixed with Squidward's voice timbre. Still sounds amazing though

The hiccups makes it more authentic. Also, the lyrics of the song really does reflect the life challenges and personality of Squidward. Overall, every time I listen to it, it never fails me to reflect on the words and of my own life. Leading up to the series finale, Squidward should just become a singer and move to NYC and live out his dream.

The only time they can use AI is when a voice actor dies or gets fired (or gets fired), but that's all I can think of because fans don't respond well to such voice changes, and corporations often prefer to steer clear of controversy :V

I am always fascinated by all of these AI covers. I think they are really cool. However, this may cause troubles for the creators of the AI generated songs in the future. You can create songs using AI, but making songs using celebrity or fictional characters voices doesn’t even give credit to the singer.

Squidward AI singing My Way by Frank Sinatra or SpongeBob and Plankton jamming to American Pie by Don McLean was like the most beautiful and emotional thing that I have ever heard in all my life! No, he doesn't. Stephen Hillenburg specifically said he didn't want ANY SpongeBob spinoffs before he died, but Viacom didn't listen. The way I see it, the Hillenburg family needs to get the dollar signs out of their eyes and forcibly rip the rights to SpongeBob out of Viacom's greedy hands.

As someone who aspires to create an animated series with my friends, I’m genuinely concerned on where this could be headed. While it is cool for small people like me to make little fanmade projects with AI celebrity voices, i’m terrified of what could happen in the long term with massive corporations abusing technology like this against everyone’s will. I’ve always loved entertainment more than anything but what inspired me more were the people behind it, and seeing all of this eventually being replaced by AI scares me and it’s sometimes hard being optimistic at this point. I refuse to lose all hope however as we’re starting our own animation stuido which will hopefully support human creativity, writing, and voice acting going forward.

Some people have already taken advantage of the AI voices to make a name for themselves. A creator named YourBoySponge has been using different Spongebob AI voices to perform original, Spongebob-based rap music. AND they actually slap!

I do just want to point out how we should be more careful and take AI more seriously because so I’ve heard theirs literally people making AI that they can talk to. They make fictional characters or talk to their comfort characters and it completely fucks up their mental health and the ability for them to socialize. Theirs many cases of this happening and even Snapchat now has a AI we’re you can basically make a fake friend. So yeah I’d say this stuff really needs to chill out and not be so public it has too much power to fuck with others lives.

The German voice of Squidward "Eberhard Prüter" died in 2014 and got replaced by someone else. Seeing this givs me hope to get the old voice back using AI like they did with the English version. Because fans of the og times of Spongebob in Germany, miss his voice.
