The Standing Power Throw is the second event of the #ACFT
Standards: Gold - 4.5m, Gray - 6.5m, Black - 8m
Training tips - Kettlebell Swings, Power Jumps, Air Squats
The #SPT is one of the easier events in the ACFT and gives your body a short recovery period after the deadlift.
HOWEVER, the Standing Power Throw still requires technique and tests your balance and coordination.
I’ve seen many strong athletes do terrible at this event because they had poor coordination. I’ve also seen “unathletic” athletes excel in this event because they had great form and great technique.
The 🔑 to this event is #PRACTICE. Understanding hand placement, foot placement, and trajectory is important in doing well for this.
In the gym, kettlebell swings, squats, deadlifts, straight leg deadlifts and #CORE are your friends.
I emphasized CORE because having a strong core will help you in every event in the ACFT.

Crazy, because I’ve only done 5 going on 6 pt tests this year. And only one has been an acft, and it wasn’t even for record (team leader academy)

I hope the Army and the VA is ready for the disability claims in 10yrs after this exercise is implemented. Its not a common muscle group that the avg person trains for. For active soldiers, no problem (maybe, new army has some plush soldiers)... but my fellow Reserve and Guard components, oh boy... alot discharges are coming. If the goal is to kickoff 40yrs (luckily, my time expired before this new PT test, or I would be one of those plushy, over 40, vets that has an early ETS date) and above you got it. In 5yrs years watch the number of retired, ETS and medical discharges. I always felt like the Army Tradoc comes up with some amazing BS, that they can't so themselves. Too, many civilians making decisions on Uniforms services. How do I know, I'm one of those GS14s that makes decisions for the gander. Not so much Uniforms Services but thats just by chance of the DOD agency that I support.

If this exercise hurts somebody, better now than in combat, ffs
