Attendance to listen to these words of eminent sense : 35 ? 20 ? 15 ? In India, during the 1991 forex crisis, I remember, an entire blockbuster- match- sized housefull crowd turned up at Ferozshah Kotla (cricket) stadium in Delhi to listen to a similar series of short talks by economists (and actively react with suggestions and feedback, not just with questions). You could just feel that the janata had an educated interest and eagerness in pulling India out of the hole (that in our case one we had dug with our idiot- Socialist policies). That they keenly felt the humilation of having to mortgage our gold reserves abroad, even if we didn't quite go begging like Pakistan now. Read even the comments here - how many are from Pakistanis ? And also - how many are from Indians ? Indicative of many things I guess.

5300 views only out of 25 crore people plus 100 in hall. Ghamidi speaks or maulana speaks u have millions of views. Really pakistani people looking for allah to sort out all worries.

I have worked for Investment Management firm and was part of the $700 billion portfolio ( Manhattan NYC) and my conclusion after viewing this program that Pakistan will suffer sever pain after few years. Without cutting Military budget by 50% and investing in Human Capital we will not come out of the problems. Establishment should completely control with ownership not like when economy screwed up blame it democracy and use politicians as a puppet. Educated and skillful people should leave and don’t waste your time and skills.

Azidi saheb, I can present a 4th scenario. Pakistan will disintegrate. Na rahega Baans na Bajegi Baansuri. Pakistan has to and will split into 4 parts this time. Baluchistan, Sindhudesh, Pashtunwali (Afghanistan) and Paxstan. As an Indian I thoroughly enjoyed this discussion.

I always reminisce about Late Dr Mahbub-ul-Haq, who spoke so eloquently on economic issues during his days at the planning commissions and later as the Finance Minister. We must remember that HDI - Human Development Index was pioneered by Late Dr Mahbub-ul-Haq Sahib. Even Dr Amartya Sen (Nobel prize winner) acknowledged the work done by Late Dr Haq! We in Pakistan need to teach and respect economics as a noble profession. Unfortunately, many people do BA/MA in Economics and end up as school teachers. These graduates never care to write and publish manuscripts such as peer-reviewed research papers, monographs, pamphlets, seminars or colloquium technical papers, or books. So to improve economic policy and decision-making for problem-solving we need to inculcate evidence-based thematic, & scientific (positivist), and ethnographic research methods within the academic discipline and domain of economics and development studies. My guess is that the moderator is the wife of a general. These retired generals living off the state's largesse continue to inflict damage on the country well beyond their stint in the government. e.g. Asad Durrani. For Durrani the country's population can go to hell as long as he continue to cling to his fantasies of regional and global domination and being a participant in the Great Game. This is the core constituency that fuels the "ghairat brigade." As long as this section continues to have any traction whatsoever in the policy circles, Pak is doomed.

Excellent discussions. Mr. Bengali is an intellectual, Mr. Zaidi a pragmatist & Mr. Aqsad and idealist. Pakistan requires an urgent but balanced & ideal mix of the the three medications suggested by the 3 gentlemen if it wishes to survive as an honourable nation.

Does Pakistan have an economy? I am asking a serious question. It is an agricultural country that imports food to feed its people and valuable agricultural land is being taken away to create HDA homes and such. It’s population is exploding, 1/2 of its school going children don’t go to school and those who finish school or graduate from college don’t have real life skills to contribute to the world. It exports $35B/year and imports 70$B/year. There is no sense of real education in the country and hence can never really have a functioning economy. Help me clear any of my misunderstandings I may have.

I like it very much, this is the first time I come to know that we have people like you who know very well what is the problem and how to solve it and who makes this problem and you know the culprits. Dr. Kaiser Bengali is an outspoken gentleman indeed.

This was a detailed and well thought out discussion on all out problems of dear motherland- Pakistan . Keep organising such like discussions so that some good viable solutions may come out of problems of Pakistan. These are cream of great think tanks please.

I strongly believe, once the focus will be on citizens of Pakistan, new strategies will be carved out. There are experts available in country but no will at the top.

Sir Shabbar gave the best analysis. Realistic, visionary and based on factual arguments. The scenarios he gave in his presentation were quite realistic and scenario 3 being the most significant if implemented effectively can bring a radical shift in the economic structure of Pakistan. However, the overall situation may take years to change.

VEDAS AND THEIR TIME PERIOD The basis of Sanatan Dharma are Vedas. There are four Vedas: Rigu, Sam, Yayur and Atharva. Vedas are collection of Mantras from different Rishis. Our Rishis were Mantra Drashta. They actually used to see the Mantras. Then memorize it, because there was no script, and later pass on to others.It is said Mohammad Sahab also saw Koran Ayats coming down from heaven. In Christianity also Ten commandments came down from heaven. Actually to start with there were only three Vedas: Rigu, Sam and Yayur and all sorts of Mantras were mingled in all the three. Then a Rishi Parishad under the presidentship of Vishwamitra requested Gautam Rishi to edit the Vedas and make them more systematic. Here I would like to mention that any Rishi named was not a particular person, he was one of the clan. E.g. there was a Vishwamitra in Satya Yuga making all sorts of troubles for king Harishchandra and there was a Vishwamitra in Treta Yuga, a few lakh years later, as Guru of Ram and Lakshman. Gautam Rishi made Vedas four. In Rigu he put prayers of different gods. Actually they are Vaidik gods like Indra, Agni, Vayu etc whom we generally do not worship now. There is history also, but it is just a mention of an incidence or a name without giving any details. In Sam Ved there are songs and music In Yayur there are medicines and diseases. Our Ayurvedic pathy has come out of it. In Atharva all sorts of rituals, Super Natural things and even different Superstitions are given. There are three types of commentaries on Vedas. Upanishads, they discuss the philosophies in Vedas. Smritis, they give the rules of society from Vedas e.g. Manusmriti. Puranas, which elaborate the history given in Vedas. Now let's come to our main topic, TIME PERIOD OF VEDAS. Western historians and also their Indian disciples do admit that Rigu Veda is the oldest book in the world but they say that it is 5000 years old, which is not correct. Ved Mantras were accumulated not over a decade or a century, those were accumulated over thousands of years. Some of the Mantras are as old as a lakh years or more. Let us check the evidences. First let us consider the language of Vedas. Though the language of Vedas is called Vadic Sanskrit but it has nothing to do with the present Sanskrit. Nobody knows the language of Vedas. A few hundred years back the Prime Minister of Karnataka Kingdom Sri Sayandacharya taking the help of different religious books translated Vedas in Sanskrit. Now everybody writes about Vedas based on his translation. Actually it is not possible to translate original Vedas. In original Vedas it's said that a Swara had nine pronounciation. E.g. in Hindi the Swara E has two pronounciation as in दीन and दिन, both have different meanings, first one is poor and second is day. So when a Swara had nine pronounciation all having different meanings. With time when the food and environment was not so pure people were not able to pronounce all the nine different pronounciations. So they reduce it to three. But these days one can't pronounce even three. So now Vedpathies show the three positions of Swaras by their hand 'Up', 'Middle' and 'Low'. About fifty years back there were five or six such Vedpathies in Karnataka and Maharashtra. I don't know if any such Vedpathies still exit or not. At the time of Kalidas the Sanskrit was at its zenith. So from beginning Sanskrit itself must have covered many thousand years. And then Vadic Sanskrit? Who knows. As everybody knows there was no script at that time. So Vedas passed from one generation to other just by pronounciation. The pronounciation was so important that if one didn't pronounce it correctly the meaning will be quite different and everything will be spoiled. Many places in Vedas the incidence is mentioned that the father of Britrasur performed a Yagna to get a son who will kill Indra. But as he was an Asur so he could not pronounce the Mantras correctly. The Mantras he pronounced meant that he should get a son who will be killed by Indra and Indra killed Britrasur. So the language of Vedas itself shows that Vedas are many thousand years old. Now let's take Geographical evidences. In Vedas always River Saraswati is mentioned. Hardly any other river is mentioned. So Saraswati was the most important river of that time. We know that it was vanished a few thousand years back. Such a great river at that time can't vanish in a decade or even a century. It must have taken a few thousand years to vanish.In Vedas a sea is mentioned which was parallel to Dead sea but it was vanished some 50 thousand years back. So some of the Mantras are 50 thousand years or more old. Vedic deities are different from today's. Indra, Agni, Vayu etc are Vedic deities. We know them but don't worship anymore. In Vedas it often comes that Indra cut the wings of Hills and Mountains. Everybody will laugh, what nonsense do the Mountains had wings? But wait let's imagine the situations one lakh years back when Himalaya was coming out of earth. What a chaos it might had been when such a great mountain range was coming out. In the day they might have seen a hill or mountain, next morning it had gone without a trace. So they thought it flew away. They worshiped Indra to save them from the chaos. Ultimately Himalaya was out. The situation became stable, no more flying of hills and mountains. So they took that Indra had responded to their prayers and cut the wings of Hills and Mountains. Then they saw a mountain in the sea. They thought that when Indra was cutting the wings of mountains this one took refuge here, they called it Mainak. So some of the Mantras are as old as a lakh years. So the Western historians are wrong to say that Rigu Veda is only five thousand years old.

Bharat also had similar situations in 1991. But we revised our economic policies - Liberalisation came into the economy I am thankful to Dr. Man Mohan Singh for that as a finance Minister (Not as a Prime minister) We didnt had the blockage by any kind of religious laws, so we succeeded now.

Sad to see people being misled by enemies of Pakistan. What PakIstan needs now more than ever is the final push in learning, teaching, following, implementing and spreading Islam, inside and outside of Pakistan.

Let us have to take necessary measures to balance expenditures in accordance with our earnings and adopt to austerity formula keeping in view the bad circumstances of the country which otherwise may suffer not only to single man but to whole, if the irregularities are not abandoned.

Hearing eminent economists like Dr. Bengali I am reminded of Sisyphus who was condemned by Zeus to carry a rock up the mountain for eternity...only for the rock to fall drow the mountain just as he is about to reach the top!! Only difference out here is that Pakistan has condemned 'itself' by its past policies (economical, social and political) and present egoistic doggedness to not learn from history!! As the saying goes...those who don't learn from the mistakes of the past, are condemned to repeat it...hence Sisyphus!!

Glad Pakistan still has some people who understand the real issues.The question is, will the establishment and government of Pakistan implement the recommendations because of their huge ego and false prestige. Not sure what the host was expecting when she said she did not expect the discussion to go this way. Wish she could have given her thoughts.
