This is kind of missing the point though. It's like saying don't get a car....unless its a Ferrarri.

Yeah, I'm completely fine with my Quest 2 that I bought for 200$. I don't really need better headset when I play only Beat Saber most of the time. Even games like Alyx run completely fine with PCVR and cable for few bucks.

Fair, for the regular user that wanted to experience VR a Quest 2/3 will get the job done for only a couple hundred bucks without the high requirements I talk about in this clip.

how to induce a passionate desire for VR in the uninformed masses? Ferrari.

Until headsets come with the snapdragon xr3, I'm sticking with the quest 3 for simplicity. Pair it with a wifi 6e router and a 10gbe connected pc, it's the best experience I've had. I was quite surprised as i was trying to avoid fsckbook like the plague... Of course, having worked for 20 years in vr, I've seen how much of a pain in the neck vr headsets can be ( literally. The first one I had used crt's and prisms and weighed a ton)

@@TitusTechTalk bro I have a 4090 13900k w/crystal & oculus 3. You're fine with Oculus 3 you won't notice much of a difference both options are great. Also, you're gonna wanna use UEVR as well as VorpX. Some of the experiences are mindblowing, things you just have to try yourself to understand why it's worth it.

I'm not sure I would write off the Vision Pro just yet. Obviously you should not go out and buy one, but, the original iPhone was pretty useless, but later versions fixed most of the problems, and now it something that some people, obviously not everyone, finds useful.

I think other options are workable. I ran Skyrim VR with Wabbajack modpacks, Beat Saber, Star Wars Squadrons, and lots of other PCVR games on a 3600X with 5700XT through a Quest 2. Looks really quite good with a solid wifi router and Virtual Desktop streaming software (better than Quest Link and Steam Link at this point). Got into it enough that I upgraded to a new machine with 5800X3D with 7900XTX and Quest 3. Stuff runs better, but significant diminishing returns compared to the much cheaper former setup. I like AMD GPUs for ease of pairing with Linux, but for VR it is probably worth it to go NVidia. Gonna be running Windows on a VR PC anyway unless you're really really into fiddling.

Pimax Crystal is fantastic. Almost a year with it now and best HMD owned since 2016 (Original Rift, HTC Vive, Quest 2/3, Valve Index, HP Reverb G2, Pimax 8KX). Forget VorpX though it's junk.

I've been trying to decide how best to replace my aging Oculus Rift (as in the very first commercially available Oculus), and the Pimax Crystal Light looks like a great idea. I considered the Valve Index VR set, but the Pimax just looks like a better deal overall since the Index hasn't been updated in what seems like four years and counting. I'm into VR gaming when I can, and I also enjoy playing around testing oddball apps that benefit from VR. Thanks for the vid because I hadn't even heard of the Pimax VR headset. And my system can handle it with a Radeon RX 7900 XTX on an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D with 64GB RAM (the CPU will be updated soon with a Ryzen 9 9950X3D soon, if it's worth the upgrade for gaming and productivity).

VorpX is cool (but I have many problems with it now - games which worked in the past for some reason don’t work anymore. However now UEVR is much better option.

Do you have any recommendations for caching in Linux? I just switched from W10 and I have a lot of free ram plus many Intel Optane drives that I want to take advantage of. I cannot find many YT videos about this topic. Thanks!

I can see VR becoming succesful in the future (as in most gamers using it) but that won't happen before the 30's.

I still don't have a VR-device and it seems that fewer people are interested in VR than a few years ago. The device is too heavy, you can't do it wireless yet (do you want to when possible), space-restrictions are an issue and many people find it quite accessible. VR just isn't that accessible. Add to that that Facebook has bought the more accessible VR and one of the most fun VR-games (Beat Saber) and also ruined that game by removing the good tracks and my interest in VR is completely gone. I will give Facebook kudos for opensourcing their 'AI'-tool, that is cool. But after everything that happened with Facebook in the past I can't spend money on them, too much trust was harmed.

Whaddaya mean it "can't do it wireless"?
@peterjansen4826
@peterjansen4826 4 дня назад
@@BoltRM Maybe I am running behind but I understood that wireless VR still was a mess, not enough datatransfer per second to make it run as well as you would like. Personally I don't use any WiFi, I prefer wired, but obviously for VR wireless is handy.

In my opinion, the current state of VR and its foreseeable future is that all VR is overpriced hot garbage. Over the last three years, my wife and I have tried four different VR headsets. While they do have the potential to be awesome, the problem all VR hardware faces is the lack of good software. It doesn't matter how high the resolution can go if there aren't games with a truly immersive story; there's no point. Yes, there are a handful of fun games like Beat Saber, but that gets boring after a short time. And of course, there's always Skyrim VR, because Skyrim must be ported to every platform. But so far, not a single VR headset lives up to its hype. I think it's time to let the concept die or just relegate it to being an overpriced adult entertainment accessory

I have played a handful of VR games over the years. Most of them are not among the most popular or most hyped, such as Half Life Alyx. But there is a few gems I have played that I wish I had tried sooner, for to me, they show what VR gaming can be, if done right. And not all have to be first person games to be real good. The game I am thinking of is Moss. In it, you get to meet a cute little mouse named Quill. And get to take part in controlling her, and her story. Story is fairly basic. Is been done to death. Little hero goes on an adventurer, saves all from a massive evil threat, in a final boss fight. Same old, same old. What is good about the game, is not so much the story, but the presentation. It's visually great. Far better then most VR games. And the animation makes the mouse come to life right in front of you. Is like watching a mini move from inside of it, wile you get to control much of the action. I played it on Steam, with my HP Reverb G2, and also seen how it looks on the Quest 3. Looks great on PC. Still looks good on the Quest 3. I agree, many games are lacking that certain something to make VR truly stand out. But I feel game like Moss, show some promise for the tech. If more do more with it, than make what looks more like demo games. - Tried one for the Quest 3 called Jupiter & Mars. Was real excited to see it, at first, thinking it might be like Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future on the Dreamcast, but in VR. Sadly, the game looked like it was made for 6 year old little kids, and made to be played on the N64. It looked bad, and the game play was worst, and very repetitive. It felt more like playing an idea made into a low quality concept demo then a full game you would expect to see on the Quest 3. Trash at best. Good thing I tried the free demo, and didn't pay for the full game. The real sad thing is, too many VR game are too much like Jupiter & Mars. With only a few real good ones, that tend to cost a lot.
