Man! I love these guys! I wish I could make them all young again, and singing their songs on stage again. I wish I could have seen them live in concert!
Don Reid has been blessed with a great singing voice and he is also a very good song writer. I hope that he is having a very blessed retirement with his family. His son and nephew are very talented as well. God bless them all.
I don't think they were recognized fully 4 the excellent songwriting today's country can't compare but I wonder if today's audience would appreciate them. They are so used to trash that is today's "music"
I will turn 72 a week before this Christmas, and I keep listing to more and more music especially my two favorite groups the Mills Brothers and the Statlers. I was thinking about how despite changes in each group, they sounded just as good. When the Mills Brothers lost their brother and their Dad replaced him, and when Lew left the Statlers and Jimmy replaced him, neither group missed a single step.. Now all the 4 Mills Brothers and their dad are all gone, and Harold and Lew from the Statlers have left us too. Thank God we have their music and videos of them. I may not be at the end of the road but I can see it from where I am. I cannot say I am looking forward to the last few steps, because they are usually very unpleasant, but I can't wait to step through the door that is at the end of the road, because there is one hell of a show going on on the other side, and they just added Harold Reid, and you know with him there, you are going to have a great time. Thanks Mr. Reid, for the laughs and amazing music looking forward to seeing you soon.. God Bless you.
Love your comparison to Rockwell. So true! I found the Statlers only recently. Wish I'd paid more attention back in the day, but I rebelled against country music for years because that's what Dad played. I realize now that he knew a thing or two. But He's gone now and I can't tell him. I realize now just how good the Statlers were/are. Truly "America's poets."
I saw them three times! At the SD State Fair we were towards the front and our then 3-year-old was a fan. Made his day, and then some, when Jimmy waved to him a couple times!! ❤️❤️
Their ears aren't working .......... not as well as the brother's voices ....... Praise the Lord for the blessings of their music amen! Harold was wonderful ... but I do hope they don't just stop singing...... altho i know they'd already retired ! =(
Dont think they listen at all, just go through and press as many dislikes as they can in a day. Their brain only has 2 purposes, one is to stop their eyes falling back in their head, the other is to prevent their ears from banging together.
They had a TV show in the '90's. I watched it every Saturday night. So sad when it went off the air. Harold always made you laugh with his antics. I loved that show.
I've met all my heroes and shook all the hands Of all I wanted to meet I've kissed all the women that once were the girls I dreamed about falling to sleep. I've looked up the bullies from grade and high school And gave them a piece of my mind I've even looked up some old teachers I had And 'pologized for being unkind. --- Instrumental --- I've talked to my mama and told her I knew I hadn't done all that I could She just smiled and kissed me and said after all You know prayers answered late are still good. And daddy there's things I'd love to tell you But you died 25 years ago 'Cause just now I'm learnin' a few of the things I thought for years you didn't know. And there's nothing I've done that I wish I've done less But there's a few I wish I'd done more And the thing I find hardest to believe is I'm here 'Cause I've never lived this long before. --- Instrumental --- I find myself readin' the Bible more now than I did Say ten years ago And I find myself lookin' at young girls and thinkin' That's somebody's daughter you know. And what does it mean when they call me Mister And say things I don't comprehend And to tell you the truth more often to me Their mama's look better than them. --- Instrumental --- But there's one call I haven't brought myself to make One mem'ry that I can't erase I've still got the pictures that I can talk to But I'm not up to go face to face. But maybe she's happy and Lord I hope so And maybe her kids have kids of their own But to me she'll always be a dance in the spring And a mem'ry I can't leave alone. And there's nothing I've done that I wish I've done less But there's a few I wish I'd done more And the thing I find hardest to believe is I'm here 'Cause I've never lived this long before. --- Instrumental --- So now that my life is laid out in order I guess I'm ready to go I'll find me a shade tree and build me a cabin And watch the daffodils grow. But wait just a minute if you'll excuse me I just saw someone I used to know And I'll come back tomorrow and finish this chorus Da da da da da Da da da da da. And there's nothing I've done that I wish I've done less But there's a few I wish I'd done more And the thing I find hardest to believe is I'm here 'Cause I've never lived this long before. I've never lived this long before...
Heaven"s choir now has s wonderful Bass singer and entertainer. Thanks for all those years. Harold. now rest in Heaven with God. Thanks for the Memories ❣🙏
Don strikes me as a very thoughtful, observant, talented and very intelligent man. He could have excelled in college. But we are fortunate that he chose to add to our appreciation of life.
AND he had perfect hearing to do the harmony ! I favor the tenor part, but think Don has one fantastic solo sound !!! I love to do a middle part best... sandwiched in between = such a comfortable place! These guys are so super ! Bye Harold =(
This song is a little dragy, but still a good song. Only the Statlers could write and record a song like this and make it a great song. I really miss them, but they deserved to retire. It will be 10 years this October that they retired. But they still sound great and always will. Their talent will never be beaten. Thanks for the post.
Is this song suggestive of a "reincarnation" theme that Don references in his book on Heroes and Outlaws? Ask questions he advises in some of his book talks. So I'm asking.
Whoever said Harold Reid was the best bass singer was sorely mistaken. Harold Reid is only third best, Richard Sterban is second best, and J.D. Sumner is the best and the greatest of all time, not to mention he's also the world's lowest bass singer. There's no one lower than J.D. Sumner. May he and Harold Reid rest in peace
Rose Best, you are so beautiful lady ! Are you married ? Have you a facebook page, my dear ? I really want to see your photos in more detail. (Dmitri).
