I'm not sure which question astonished me more - the fact that someone asked them how much money they made (such an inappropriate question, even more so back then!) or that someone actually thought Lew didn't smile! Lew almost always looked like he was smiling or simply happy in general. These men were legitimately one of the best things about my childhood and having parents who loved country music.
The Statler Brothers was my first concert experience in 1980. They played the Dunn Center at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville Tennessee. They had a autograph session and a meet-and-greet directly after. That was one of my favorite life experiences getting to meet them.
" We love to pick and sing. And it's not a nine to five" " It may not be a real job. But it keeps our dream alive. We've played in front of many and sometimes just a few". Anyway it doesn't matter.. It's what we love to do".
The Starlets were always my favorite group I got a chance to see them in concert several times and they always put on a great show Harold was one of my favorites I loved his corny jokes Rest in Peace Harold
With Harold and lew now gone sad to say there will never me a Statler reunion but thank God they made recording and videos for us all to love the old and new fans am sure that will come along
@@Scarletspeedster68 my mom is in heaven with them..She thought Harold was the best. I had a big crush on Lew, I met him once. My ringtone on my phone is Flowers On The Wall.
Harold sang bass the way its supposed to be sung- he filled the chord. Which is what all members of a quarter are supposed to do. His bass was rich & resonant & he didn't sing 2 octaves below the chord as if having a freakishly low register somehow improves a song. Many bass singers today do that & it sounds awful, or even worse, they find the lowest note they can hit & merely growl a muttering monotone, and ruin a good hymn in the process. Harold did it right. RIP
You nailed it. Many Bass singers try to sing too low. just to try to impress people with "How Low Can You Go". And it sounds terrible. It does not sound natural or even fit with the rest of the group. I am a Bass/Baritone. And I know exactly what you mean.
true. august 8 and august 21, if I remember right. also- Harold and Phil have been best friends since they were kids and their Dads were also best friends!
Phil was actually class of '56 - ancestry.com has yearbooks from their high school, and I found him listed as a senior that year. But he was indeed that close in age to Harold... hmm.
As far as "Class of", it depends on the individual school district. My son's friend was born the same year he was, but was a year ahead of my son due to a "age five by September 1st" rule. My son was born in October, his friend in March. And then too, there is parental choice, and failing a grade to consider.
It's funny How Harold Is Supposed to stand on the other end which is the right end because he's a bass Singer and Lew is on the bass Singer side. But after all a good video I love Statler Brothers
It's funny they mention that Harold graduated in 1957. P hil was born the same year a s Harold; he's just thirteen d ays older than Harold. So w- ouldn't he have graduated hi gh school the same year?
Linda Wheeland yes i also noticed that the Statlers where the same height when Lew was still with them, when jimmy came they were not the same height anymore
@ Tupa Neemia, Harold was the Group's Bass Singer, and both he, and Don, the Lead Singer, are actually real life Brothers. Harold, and Don are the only 2 group Members that are also Brothers. Phil and Jimmy are not Brothers with Harold and Don, or each other.
Ralph Emery has been around for a mighty long time in Country music entertainment news. The last I checked he's still sharing planet earth with us at 87 years of age. 👍💕
It's Balsley and Fortune. I know, I'm driving everybody crazy with the corrections. Just a super, super, super Statler Brother fan. Don't forget Lew DeWitt.
