Don was a great song writer and a great lead singer. He has always been my favorite one. But they were all great intertainers and just plain good people. They just don't make em' like this anymore.
You all know damn well that at one point you've cruised the rural towns/backroads of San Andreas while it was raining in the old pickup you stole with the wooden bed and felt country as shit.
She came to me shortly after Christmas Said she hated spoiling New Year's Eve But the truth doesn't wait to come in season And what we had feared was now believed She said she'd leave come Monday morning Catch a plane if I'd split the fair She had friends who lived in New York City She'd look them up and have the baby there And now she's alone in New York City (New York City) Living like ... Lord, I wonder how An angel in hell in New York City (New York City) But I can't think about that now Honey, will you tell him Bible stories And give him all the love I never could? And never tell him too much 'bout his daddy 'Cause there's not too much to say that's good He'll have to learn it all from his mother: How to count and say his A-B-C's But when you teach him prayers to say at bedtime Leave off "God bless Daddy," won't you please? And now they're alone in New York City (New York City) Living like ... Lord, I wonder how Two angels in hell in New York City (New York City) But I can't think about that now I can't think about that now
This song sounds better when you're going 100 mph on the freeway, in a stolen car as you weave in and out of traffic trying to shake off the law that's on your tail.

Two angels in hell in New York City (New York City), But I can't think about that now. I can't think about that now. Deus, eu me pergunto. Deus, eu me pergunto.

@statlershow What is the background vocal line @2:14? I've wanted to record this song for a while & I won't do it without knowing exactly what that line is.
The only background line in this entire song is "New York City". That's the only thing any of the other Statlers sings other than when they are singing the same lyrics as Don.
@@violagreene4643 Listen closely in the 2nd verse there's an extra word just before New York City. It's hard to make out, but it's there. Lead: "When you teach him prayers to say at bedtime. Backup: "______ New York City" Lead: Leave off God bless Daddy, won't you please"
@@redlinemando Sounds like Harold started singing along early, and what you are hearing is him singing "bedtime ". It isn't part of the official lyrics because it isn't heard in the original recording
@@violagreene4643 I'll have to dig up the original & give it another listen, but I think they've always done it like that on live versions & it's always bugged me. lol Thank you for taking the time to give it a listen.
