@@rikkifknrobin Yep, until the Soldano/5150 era, he was using only his Plexi without any boost, He started using sd-1 during Balance era The 5150 iii is the ultimate high gain, the 5150 stealth is loaded with 8 preamp tubes, THAT'S INSANE
6L6 cleans, hotrodded Plexi and crushing, thick , insane distortion. Add an eq pedal for the loop plus an overdrive to push the preamp, unlimited, I mean unlimited tone. This head kills it with a 1x12 cab. Best money ever spent.
I actually prefer Carvin Legacy VL100 But when I had to retire that I got a EVH Iconic that I have found to be more reliable amd controlled than the standard EVH Amps. The 3 was brutal and had tons of noise , the 2 was decent but the Iconic pairs well whether it be pedals or a Fractal and since I always hated Marshall (except a Modded one I had years ago) it gives me a nice clean tone to work with from start to finish..
I read an interview with Mike Stringer after their first album where he said he just goes into an interface straight into NDSP plugins and uses presets. Are we sure about his EVH use, is that recent?
He posted on IG a year or so ago of his live rig. Insane combination of EVH Stealths, Revv cabs, and Axe FX. I'm not sure how it's all used but it's a massive wall of tone!
It's not uncommon for bands running a digital rig to have some sort of amp setup live as well for things like stage volume/side fills. How it's used depends on the band, but often times it is just a split from the digital patch before the amp sim into the power amp section of whatever they're using, so tone is mostly the same but there's air moving on stage in addition to the in-ears. I know Periphery and Polyphia use this method (all the FOH tone is the digital rig but the amps on stage let them feel things a bit more), wouldn't be surprised if Spiritbox is doing similar, especially since I don't remember them micing any of those cabs last time I saw them.
Yeah they use the power amp and cab only. No pre-amp gain at all. The distortion is from whatever amp sim they use split off BEFORE THE CAB section in the modeler into the power section of the stage amp then into the cab for stage sound. The modeler patch with cab goes straight to FOH. This allows them to use midi patch switching while still having accurate amp sound on the stage without having to pedal dance. It's one of the main reasons to use modelers. I don't know what Gojira does and Eddie was likely using the actual amp tone. Last I read Petrucci uses his axe fx in the loop for spatial fx only and uses his amps tone otherwise. But for Spirit Box and similar bands with modelers the amp tone is in the modeler not whatever amp they are using for stage sound.
joe is really good at pretending hes good at guitar so hes better at everything we suck at like really fast galloping and really fast tapping but he really only shines in the writing department. dude just knows how to write heavy riffs without making them terribly complicated but still unique
