Hey Bro Great Job THANKS. I'm going to suggest Colter Wall "The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie" and The Legend of John Henry's Hammer by Johnny Cash Again on every video I watch until You do. SORRY.
I haven’t listened to Steve Miller Band in decades. Back in the 80’s I swear everyone had their Greatest Hits album! Thanks for the trip down memory lane for me with these!!
We did. It's actually one of the biggest-selling albums of all-time. Of course, you still had to get *Book Of Dreams* to get the *real* version of "Jet Airliner!!!!" 😊
@@kassandrariemersma7902 my wife and I saw Frampton about 8 years ago. She had never heard his music before, but she said it was the best concert she had ever been to.
@@legolite45 My grandparents. Couldn't understand how we could listen to it - 'it all has the same beat'. And that was just Top 40 stuff. Mellow oldies now. What today is, is not even music though, for the most part.
I grew up as a teenager when this song came out I was 17 at the time and my now 21 year old son likes listening to this amazing man. It keeps the older music fresh after 44 years. Keep rocking guys.
Being from Milwaukee, we heard a lot of Steve Miller on the radio because he's from the same area. I had both his "Fly Like an Eagle" & "Book of Dreams" albums. Great jam!!! I especially love the extended intro!! ✌✌
One of my favorite memories was in boot camp, riding back from Milwaukee in a limo that a bunch of sailors somehow had, drinking an adult beverage underage and cranking up the Steve Miller Band greatest hits! Love me some SMB!
This was one of the albums EVERYONE had back in my high school days. Book of Dreams is a great collection of songs. Love those tight harmonies and great production :)
We had a cool ol' school bus driver that played a bunch of music for us when I was in Highschool. This was one of the albums he played. Haven't heard it in ages. takes me back.
I sing it to my kids when the forget to shut off lights in the house. Big Ol Jed left a light on. I can’t remember where that misheard lyric comes from, but I love it.
THAT’S why we appreciate you and your reactions, Jamal!! Never knew about the song’s writer and the Miller Band’s royalties to him. Makes us like it that much more. Keep up the great work.
The greatest hits 74 - 78 was mandatory to buy in the 80's when I was a teen. He had hits before and after that time period but he was in an amazing run them. I was happy you had the original version and not the edited for radio funky Kicks going down in the city version.
Whenever I hear this song, it strikes me how anachronistic the reference to a "707" is. Even when the song was written in 1973, the 707 was already getting old.
Really happy to see Steve Miller band get some run, I think he and they are probably one of the most overlooked and forgotten pieces of rock genius. And as you noted with your story about the folksinger, he’s truly a special human being. If you haven’t seen it, I encourage you to watch the way he destroyed the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame at his intro.
I used to travel quite a bit as a service technician. Lots of miles on airliners in the 70s and 80s. This song and "leaving on a Jetplane" always meant a lot to me. I liked traveling, but I like living on my 24 acres of woods these days too. Great memories with these songs.
Hubby and I used to laugh and sing, "We're gonna turn a light on" when he sings, "Big ole jet airliner", because that's what it sounds like. Love this song!
This was what was on my walkman as my plane took off when I left for College. I was moving very far away and knew I wasn't coming back. It might be 30 years ago but I think about that moment every time I hear this song.
It also doesn’t have that extended jam at the beginning either... so they edited it for the funky shit line and for the AM radio format to shorten it a bit.
I once saw a comedian who did a bit on misheard lyrics and this is a song that he used as an example but of course since he is a stand-up his example was ridiculous: Bingo Jed had a light on. 😂😂😂
One thing I appreciate about your reactions is the true enjoyment for music regardless of genre you share with us. Makes me smile every time I see you really get into a song. Appreciate you!
Firstly I apologise I know this isn't Steve Miller related, I found a little gem you may like . Duane Allman & Boz Scaggs , " Loan me a dime " from 1969, a bit of a slow burner but gets going and is a musical treat
It actually is sort of Steve Miller-related. Boz Scaggs was briefly a member of the Steve Miller Band in the 1960s. Before that, they had played together as teenagers in a band called the Marksmen.
@@Jude74 I went to a Dead show in 1992 and The Steve Miller Band opened up for The Grateful Dead. What a memory! Rich Stadium (Buffalo Bills) was jammin' fun! I also saw Steve Miller in 1989 in Canandaigua, NY. It was around my graduation from high school... no pun intended. 😁
@@mickeyscott7479 I went to a Steve Miller Band show every summer from 1988 to 1994. If I didn’t see a show in the summer I didn’t feel like I had summer. Yeah and I went to HIGH school too 🙃.
If you're going to do one more by him I suggest The Stake. It's got a fantastic guitar solo in it that shows off his skill. Very popular with his hard-core fans.
Steve Miller took some time in the mid 70s to write some songs. When he was done he had 2 albums worth.....those songs became the albums Book of Dreams and Fly Like an Eagle. An amazing burst of songwriting.
Oh man! 1978 I was heading to USAF basic training getting on that big ol' jet airliner by myself for the first time!! Good times! Thanks for the memory!
No worries though. It was good to hear the full, uncut, uncensored version of "Jet Airliner". Just so you know, for most Steve Miller Band fans, "Threshold" and "Jet Airliner" are inseparable. Thanks for keeping great music alive!
