Incapable of metal? W R O N G. I think we forget just how neutered old rock amps used to be; really having to dig into the strings to get more saturation... this little guy is a beast! Definitely more capable than just rock and clean. Engl has to be in my top three amps for consistent build and tonal quality, and the Mini Morse is no exception! Great video, dude!
Yep. I remember. Then I got the 5150 when it first came out and it was like Woah! Before that it, for me, could be a struggle with other amps to find the combo of stuff to get me there.
That's a rocking amp Jon. Companies are really starting to get the sounds of the bigger amps in smaller, lighter and more volume friendly packages. Love it mate!
The Ironball SE is a phenomenal platform (so much so I'm selling my Helix floor, this is a viable replacement). This guy sounds great for that pushed overdrive/rock tone but noticeably tamer than the SE, which I think has it's place in the ENGL lineup. Phenomenal demo tracks, you really made this thing shine!
@@rinatdautbaev1065 It can do metal very well if you go the lead channel, but as Jon said in the video right after I typed my comment. It's a REALLY dark sounding amp. And I'm more used to a standard EVH 5150 Stealth. They are very different voiced amps. It's all preference tho.
Sounds fantastic recorded. I agree with what you're saying. It got dark really quickly when you pulled back the treble, and that brief moment with max treble sounded awesome. Max treble was probably rough in the room but it sure worked with the mic haha. It handled the lower tuned guitar really well. I wouldn't buy this for the really aggressive metal tone that I love, but it does a great hard rock / metal tone nevertheless
Great content once again. Your riffs are super sweet 🤘🏻👍. Yeah the clean sound is amazing. I just got my first Schecter guitar 4 days ago . A Hellraiser . Definitely gonna buy another Schecter . What great guitars . Thanks again Jon for all you do for us out here in the inter zones .
Jon!!!! This amp seem pretty awesome! I'm liking the rock vibes from it , especially with that crunch tone was really nice. Also I was thinking the same thing with the EQ pedal to compensate for a missing presence knob. Great minds think alike haha. Awesome video dude 😄
Big Steve Morse fan and I'm a jazz guy - but I like to crunch too. Love the baritone but I can't appreciate it on my phone. 🤓 ...but as I have a couple, I know how it sounds. Cool vid!
Nice! Well played and great amp. It would be appreciated to see more riffs based on long fingering sections. Yeah, I know how funny it sounds ;). But riffs kinda like Raining Blood type would be totally welcome next time. Greets!
Other than the difference with the Presence control, is it all that different from the Ironball SE? What would make someone pick the SM over the SE? Other than being a fan of Steve Morse, what would be the point of spending an extra $150? As always, a GREAT demo. EDIT - Steve Morse is on my Mt Rushmore of guitarists. I saw him back in the 90's (with Dave LaRue on bass and I think Van Romaine on drums) and it was jaw dropping. I went to his guitar clinic before the show and he was so easy going and humble. Truly a highlight of my life.
@@SonicDriveStudioWhilst I can tame my SE to sound similar to this amp. I dont see it the otherway around. The amp is voiced too dark to ma taste. It was aparent when hearing the mic'ed can which is my preferred way of recording but this sounded worse then your IRs. I also like glassy cleans the SE can do.
Great review but I don’t think this amp is for me.Never was a fan of Steve Morse tone, great player but just not distinctive enough for me.And that’s how I feel about this amp although really loved the cleans and features.I may change and consider it.
@@SonicDriveStudio yes the end part is what I wanted to hear 😀. IR sound like a real cab and I use them when I am not playing with a real cab as it changes ths dynamics which is not what I particularly like. Thx for a great review
