Jim Steinman wrote the songs, not Meat. Meat brought them to life. Please do For Crying Out Loud from Bat Out Of Hell 1. There's no video but it's magnificent.

However there is some truth about his past in here, he did run away from his abusive alcoholic father after he tried to stab him shortly after his mother passed away

No soundtrack. It's Meat Loaf. The video itself is the "movie". Just a very good story sung by a great actor, singer and performer. The director was Michael Bay. You might know him from movies like "Pearl harbor", "Armageddon" or "Transformers". He also directed "I would do anything for love (but I won't do that)" and "Rock and Roll dreams come through" (with a young Angelina Jolie) for Meat Loaf. There are some similarities with Meats own life. He had a violent and aggressive father who even tried to kill him one day with a big kitchen knife. Meat was able to fight against his father, pushed him away and really had to "run away alone". At first he was homeless for a while but then he was very lucky and a girl from a nearby theater asked him if he could sing. He said yes and she took him through the backstage door while all the other actors and singers had to wait outside for an audition. He started to sing a Gospel song that he had learned from a Gospel singer. But Meat didn't know anything about music theory. End of the story: He got the role and worked at the theater as an actor and singer from this moment on. Btw. Meat later said during several interviews that he had forgiven his father what he had done to him when he was young. According to Meat Loaf himself he always played a character when he was singing a song. He didn't learn a new song like a musician normally would do. Instead he approached every song as an actor which means he first took the lyrics like a movie script and read it about 20 times trying to find the character/the role. Only then did he'd worry about the musical things. He admitted that this method wasn't always easy to handle for his band members.

The song titles and the songs, are all down to Jim Steinman. The amazing delivery is Meatloaf's. Along with the excitement of the release of his first album since "Bat." I recall being a little upset by the slight change in his voice, following the surgery on his throat. Fantastic songs and still beautifully sung though. I don't recall it being used in a movie. I think this may just be a music video. ps. Rag'n'Bone Man. Die Easy (studio version). :)

@@Johnny96ri I'll accept that. For some reason reason I "misremembered" this as being from the Dead Ringer album. Memory playing tricks. This object seemed a little further away, in my rear view mirror.

Thank you for reacting to this gem. It was a rare occasion that this song was played live, and even rarer to hear him perform the second verse during a show. I'll never forget the goosebumps, and the collective inhalation of breath followed by revered silence from the audience when the opening piano strains of this song began during his concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 2006. That was the only time I heard it live in the eight shows of his that I went to. The second verse is definitely semi-autobiographical for Meat, even though it was Jim Steinman who wrote it. He really did have to fight for his life in a long, drawn-out brawl with his father, who was even bigger and heavier than Meat; and ran out of the house to get away wearing only shorts and a t-shirt. Even though he was overweight and failed the eye test for the army physical due to him being colourblind, he still got called up to the draft! He simply ignored it. I read somewhere that Jim failed the ink-splatter test, which showed he had "borderline psychotic tendencies", so he didn't get called up. Instead, the two of them met when Meat auditioned for a role in a musical that Jim wrote the songs for: a dark, satirical comedy set in Vietnam during the war... There are live audio recordings from the show in 1973 floating around on RU-vid. Meat's show-stopping number is "More Than You Deserve". First link is a shorter, earlier version with just the song (it says it's Jim playing piano but it's not): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hCk5mrT5rDA.html Second link is a longer, later version with more of the conversation and build up before the song., where Meat's character reads a letter from his Mom back home. If you do listen to it, I apologise in advance for the sensitive subjects that come up so casually in the letter. It was deliberate, satirical bad taste back then, and it's even more so looking at it from our modern sensibilities: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Cy54I-VRi0Y.html Aside from that, I think you're well and truly ready to react to "For Crying Out Loud". ;) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8KyHDNQkBSA.html

Robert Patrick plays Kenny's dad and Will Estes plays young Meatloaf. I recommend the live version of 'for crying out loud' meatloaf did with the Melbourne symphony orchestra.

The live performance starts with the song/lyrics "I Want My Money Back" - That would be a brave choice for many singers in front of an audience that paid a lot to be there.

Writer Jim Steinman LOVED wordplay. Almost all of his titles were plays on words-this, Rock & Roll Dreams Come Through, Original Sin. While he did not write it, ML and Steinman were best friends. (indeed: the original title for Bat Out Of Hell was "Meat And Jim." This song was tough for Meat Loaf...he wouldn't sing it live, because the second verse often had him choking up. (It's one of the better lyrical descriptions I have heard for PTSD.) I'm not sure about "Kenny," but ML's father WAS very abusive. He REALLY DID have to "run away alone." It was NOT a soundtrack, Michael Bay's video was just THAT GOOD. AFAIK, only two Steinman songs were used in a movie-both credited to "Fire, Inc." (which was actually Face 2 Face, with Laurie Sargent or Holly Sherwood on lead vocals) and used in Streets of Fire-"Nowhere Fast" (another play on words) and the movie's spectacular end concert, the stunning "Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young." And yes, the pilot in this video is Robert Patrick, pre T2.

If you read closely, you see that the song title is the exact opposite of what it says on the rear view mirror. The intent is..."It seems like it was just yesterday", but is really far away.

"Both my side mirrors actually say that" No they don't, they say the opposite. Wing mirrors make things look further away, rear view mirror makes things look closer.

RIP Meat Loaf. This is one of my top 3 favs from this amazing singer. Love this song - the whole album is good. A few others from that album worth checking out: "Life is a Lemon (and I Want My Money Back)" "Rock and Roll Dreams Come True" "It Just Won't Quit" "Out of the Frying Pan (and Into the Fire)" "Everything Louder than Everything Else"
