My favorite part about Danny Phantom is the fact the characters don’t reset every episode. Character growth is one of my favorite things to see. Avatar, Danny Phantom, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, etc. Shows like that just make you want to watch more!
@@joegaming029 bro what 💀. There’s a lot of character development. You sound like one of those people who gets their opinions from biased incorrect reviews of the show. I don’t even especially like it all that much but come on
@@joegaming029 There was character growth, but I felt it was ultimately squandered with the series finale. The agenda took more importance to the creator than making the final product the best it could be.
Yeah character development is really important to me too with these type of shows. MLP:FiM had a bit of a problem with some characters learning almost the same lesson multiple times. That took some of the enjoyment out of it for me. Other times they had pretty good character growth.
Totally get it honestly I’d say the ghostly wail is above earth bending in ATLA for me only because Danny’s wail came from being more powerful than his evil self AND promising to never become that to that shit is powerful. Now Aang’s ability to take away Ozai’s bending THOSE are tied lol
@@not_briana The Owl House starts to fall apart and show cracks very quickly. I substitute it for Gravity falls, the just better owl house(Who knows, maybe they'll improve, but the show had some fundamental and structural issues if they get more seasons to fix it, I haven't been keeping up). I want to watch infinity train, canceled for being to mature is just fucking dumb. I've seen some art from points at Amphibia and it looks cool. Haven't heard of the others.
@@Firestar-rm8df allegedly Owl House took a while (up to episode 16 or so) to really solidify into the show the creators wanted it to be because of notes from Disney.
Absolutely with the first two. Idk why, but I didn't actually watch or really appreciate El Tigre till it was too late. Not sure what it was, (probably the art style if I had to guess) but there was nothing about it that really caught my attention when it first started airing unfortunately. I remember seeing a number of episodes after it had already been canceled and moved to NickToons and thinking, "Wait..why didn't I like this show before?!" Missed the mark on it I guess hah.
I’m so starved of Danny Phantom content it’s really nice to find some stuff like this being uploaded on RU-vid this show was my whole childhood for so many years now and I still love it too this day, it’s got a real special place in my heart
@@offbeatkiki oh my gosh haha! I checked your channel out and noticed I’ve seen that video once already, it was a really good watch, I saw you made a couple amv’s as well definitely going to check those out
Ooo do you read fanfiction? I highly recommend phantom of truth and shadow of a doubt by haiju (haikujitsu on tumblr). It's only complete on ffn not ao3 though. That one basically takes all of the psychological horror implications of danny getting caught by the GIW and just takes it to the extremes. But it also turns into a story of learning to trust and healing after severe hurt, yknow? It's worthwhile if you can stomach it. I can make more hilarious and cool recs if you want, just hmu
Fanfiction's got you covered. What it lacks in average quality it makes up for in bulk. If you're willing to learn to filter it you'll basically never run out.
Honestly I think this show’s fandom is still alive today just because of how open the universe of the show was. Some of the most creative fan stories and art have come out of the community of fans around the show and it’s amazing to see after all this time.
I was the same age as the characters when this show premiered. I have loved it ever since. This show is criminally underrated and needs to return in some form. This was my adolescence, and I will never stop loving it. Footnote: I just got myself the ultra-rare Danny Phantom Funko Pop Vinyl. Beyond happy!
@@hard-fard235 Nickelodeon didn't reply episodes as much as they did to other shows so only our generation really remembers it and why shows like SpongeBob and avatar are on other streaming platforms or got a spin off.
@@Mexican_Food_Truck_1 True, but the more than sizable fanbase that is there is VERY much in the shows corner. It's like when movies become 'cult classics' over time because they only appeal to a certain demographic. Anyone outside of that demo may not get it, but if you're part of it and you get it...it's a really cool thing man. I enjoy that about Danny Phantom. And I honestly think that one of the reasons this show is held in such high regard by it's fans is because it isn't oversaturated. That being said, I do follow A LOT of animation review channels and watch loads of 'retrospectives' on this platform, and pretty much every channel I follow has done at least one video on Danny Phantom. So there is LOTS of real love and appreciation out there for this show. Even if Nickelodeon didnt give it the type of dismissal/victory run some think its deserved.
I was absolutely obsessed with Danny Phantom in my early teens. This episode definitely brings back memories. Thank you for your thoughtful analysis. While definitely full of cliches, the series was still unique and enjoyable. I still think about the great potential Danny Phantom had and it's untimely end.
Yesss, there were so many more stories to tell, and so much character growth to be had. The way they treated that ending was criminal. And VALERIE DESERVED BETTER.
@offbeat kiki I have just saw your video and it was very well done! I discovered Danny Phantom this year in 2021 and watched it for the first time this year in 2021 and I loved it. Danny Phantom is one of the best action cartoons of the early 2000s, next to Kim Possible(which I watched and discovered for the first time in 2020). I know this is going to sound crazy but I liked season 3 and the finale despite some issues, I still found episodes in the season still good. I hope you respect my opinions on how I feel about the final season and I am genuinely different, and socially awkward from the crowd(which again I didn't mind) Such an amazing experience watching Danny Phantom for the first time this year in 2021!
@@offbeatkiki Thanks and I hope you don't get mad since I have a different opinion on Season 3, again I quite liked and the finale it and thought there were good episodes despite some flaws. I was concerned that the show would be scary(since I don't like Rated R-or scary content since I grew up quite differently and not perfect like the rest, I don't curse in my sentences, I love cartoons, I am loving and affectionate which I am sensitive, didn't have a supportive sibling and father) since it was about ghosts but I was comfortable and intrigued throughout the series! I love Danny Phantom and such a beautiful experience and can see why it's one of the best action cartoons of the early 2000's next to Kim Possible! I watched and discovered Kim Possible for the first time since last year June in 2020! I wish Kim Possible and Danny Phantom had a crossover since both shows were positively acclaimed by critics and have huge fanbases and cult following! Imagine the possibilities for a story like that! Would you've liked a crossover between the two shows?
@Jonathan Menzies Please man I know you get excited but I see you in about every danny phantom related video I've seen and even though I agree with you let people think what they want to. If people prefers Valerie x Danny then let them. Our ship is canon anyways and even if it's not respect others opinions. I personally think Valerie's character does need justice and there's a lot of great shows but face it none are perfect. May the Lord bless you. So what other shows do you like? Do you like Camp Lazlo?
@Jonathan Menzies It's just from what I've seen you seem to be others faces so to speak. Granted I'll give you credit I don't think you called anyone names which is more than I can say for most but please take it easy. I've heard of Iron man and I know there was this series to it but I don't think I've watched it.
As a kid I always used to be obsessed with Danny Phantom, Avatar , Ben 10 and Teen Titans , nice that people are talking about these shows even up to this date
I remembered Danny Phantom as my favorite Nick show growing up & recently rewatched the series & honestly... it aged so well it's BETTER now than when I first watched it - for this very reason: it stands up to film theory, story structure, character continuity & development, I could go on. I was so impressed with how much thought went into building the world as well as maintaining a running narrative throughout. Totally bummed that it ended so soon & there was definitely a little hiccup in quality for a couple of episodes in my opinion but it STILL ended so strongly & come on, a couple eps out of the whole series that are B - compared to A+? I'll take that! Hands down the absolute best. Butch Hartman is one of the best kids show creators (all of his shows are rewatchable & enjoyable as an adult).
@ Michael Laurens King such a wonderful response! I never heard of Danny Phantom until this year in 2021! I watched the whole show for the first time this year(through Dailymotion) and I love it! I love the story, characters, writing, and I thought it would be scary(because I don't like scary things, I'm anxiety, socially weird, and I am genuinely different from most males, etc.) since it was about horror but I was intrigued during the experience! I even liked season 3(I hope people respect how I feel about the season) despite a few issues! I love Danny Phantom and such an amazing experience! P.S. Would've loved to see Kim Possible(which I saw for the first time in 2020 in June) and Danny Phantom have a crossover special!
@@zzz43344 Yeah it's very sad that Butch Hartman is revealed to be a mean human being! I even feel sadder for all you Danny Phantom being poorly disrespected and treated by him! I feel so sorry for you all! I even feel more bad I never heard and watched Danny Phantom before until now in 2021!
I love how these shows that are "made for kids" can be dissected so thoroughly and hold so much meaning and impact. As someone who grew up with this era of TV, I honestly think I'm pretty lucky, especially compared to some of what you find on TV nowadays.
I remember absolutely loving Danny Phantom when it was on, and I also remember thinking it’d be a good idea to have an episode where Danny was sick and it messed with his ghost powers, and this video just articulated to me why my brain did that. It was putting the “sick day” trope I’d seen before into a show that does tropes really well
I loved Danny Phantom as a kid and it’s one of few shows from when I was young that I still enjoy today as an adult. I think it was almost certainly the first show I ever saw that was serialized to any extent and to young-me, that was really cool. Also, I will never, ever complain about a best friends will-they-won’t-they romance because, when I care about the characters the way I always cared about the main characters of Danny Phantom, I’m always rooting for them to get together. Danny and Sam’s relationship is one of my favorites in animation.
@Jonathan Menzies Sadly for you the second ship Butch would be mad as heck at you as when he was involved in a fan site any none canon ships he'd find a user had even off site he'd get them booted for and basically had anyone who still interacted with them off the fan site booted too (I bring this up as you said in another comment thread he is a nice guy when he truly isn't and that is another example of his bad behavior as you seemed to be blinded by his nice guy persona )
@UCkv7ZJEnFH4ULMIuiopuIXQ As I said he is against and hates none canon pairings he shown that in the early days of Danny Phantom Fansites by going to the fansites and him saying basically ''anyone who makes or even likes none canon pairings are not a real fan as he never done it nor people he knew that are true fans of anything when growing up.'' And he also was caught telling mods to make sure any members even off the sites aren't doing so and if they are to kick them off with a perma ban
@Jonathan Menzies Still I wonder why you didn't believe Butch Hartman is like how he is and FYI he is rather bigoted and closeminded aswell as has somevery very outdated and very very harmful views ones that his generation as a whole hadn't believed in nor thought was right at all
@Jonathan Menzies I don't find autism as a excuse or justifiable here on why you don't believe he is a nasty person as I myself have Autism and could see through his persona early on as it clearly was a fake persona of kindness and goodness .. So obvious for anyone who actually interacts with others .. Granted if you live in a city it might be harder to read such things where several people every day would have less then genuine behavior and the like where as myself living in a rural area regularly see and interact with people not hiding there true self behind a act .. Besides so you know Butch Hartman also believes people with Autism is a curse and punishment God did to punish the parents for sins they did throughout their lives prior to meeting up .. He also talked about old clearly abusive and even easily lethal methods he believed was the way to handle Autistic people if God doesn't undo the punishment .. Stuff only really bad sorts of isolated cases of relgious folks still think like.. When most relgious folk denounce those who think like that
Danny Phantom and Invader Zim - both shows were the odd ones, given the regular lineup, and I still watch both of them on a regular basis, while the rest slowly slips into forgetness.
Danny Phantom will always hold a special place in my heart. On top of being just an amazing show, it's the one that got me into cartoons in the first place. I never watched them as a kid since our TV only had one channel for kids and there wasn't really anything of quality there. And so I didn't know that I was missing out. But then I heard a theme song on youtube and liked it so much I checked out the show. And now look at me posting Finish Infinity Train hashtags, drawing fanart of Rex Salazar, dying to see new Trollhunters movie. And it's all thanks to Danny Phantom.
I can't believe you brought up Danny phantom without bringing up... The BEST villain dynamic. Most villains, once they find out the secret Identity of their hero, almost always reveal said identity.... But Danny's villains can't really do that, cuz if they were to, well... Danny can do the same to them and get his parents on his tail, cuz he no longer has anything to lose. This comes up a LOT with... I think it's his uncle? Who is a villain, and they constantly have to cover for each other when they aren't ghosts.
I love that show! In addition to all of this, it did bring up some deeper subjects, like racism (the Fenton parents, Val, and the GIW/government), the separation of Church and State - depicted in this with how much legal control the government can claim over what is essentially human souls (Anti-Ecto Act), psychological obsessions and how they can affect your lives and those you care about (the ghosts themselves, but also the Fenton parents and even Jazz to a lesser extent), different forms of parental abuse - including neglect (the Fenton parents absolutelysuck as parents in cannon), forms of bullying (Dash), and schools preferential treatment for their athletic members (Mr Lancer), and the exploitation of children (Vlad using Val for his own ends). It has this whole microcosym of subtext that was really rich. Unfortunately, I think someone eventually realized that and went "Wow, we could be accused of trying to normalize this behavior to kids" and shut down the show. I think it provides great subject matter to think on. I love this show!
Thanks Nerdstalgic. I am an aspiring creator who is interested in creating my own characters, particularly superheroes. The problem I have had for quite awhile is trying to make my characters and their stories as original as possible. Yes, that is fine but I always find myself taking inspiration from other characters and heroes, especially Spider-Man and Marvel. For quite a long time, I thought this would make my work seem like copycats or trying to be the next ______. After watching your video, I now realize that it's not so much the inspiration of the work but how well it's executed and how the story is told. Like you said, originality is not a bad thing but ideas shouldn't always exist in isolation they are meant to be played with and explored further. Thanks Nerdstalgic and great video! Also, I would recommend you do a video on American Dragon: Jake Long because it's really good.
Is this a reupload? Maybe my memory is fuzzy cause I could've sworn you did this video before. I'm not complaining mind you. Just confused. Either way always good to see a notification about a new video from you. Keep up the great work my dude.
Danny Phantom is the epitome of untapped potential. Could have been a solid 4-6 season show but it died too soon. RIP to a fanbase that deserved much more
@@KaitouKaiju fairly odd parents and spongebob are obviously examples of worn out shows but there's a common ground tho. Like we dont want it to overstay its welcome but we wanted to see more than some 3 seasons (really 2, because that last one was NOT it)
I think my favorite episode of Danny Phantom is the one with the haunted garage sale where Danny finally gets a taste of popularity and grows in the way that he realizes popularity isn't for him.
I was young when Danny Phantom first aired but I remembered watching a few episodes and then a cmv reminded me of it, it was so fun to go back and rewatch it which ultimately gave me an idea for a fan fiction about it, it's been a few months since I've finished but it was a really fun project where I played around with my own ideas and offered ideas by the readers to add in and go with the show's plot and I can't be grateful enough for the love. It is to bad it only got 3 seasons and it definitely deserved more
Agreed that he shouldn't. He doesn't own the show, so its Nickelodeon's choice to bring it back, sell to Netflix or whatever, and who to write/animate.
@@JackieRoxs i hope they sell it to Netflix I feel like Nick would just ruin it like they did in the past. Netflix I think could make something great out of it.
@@Pkbucket I don't know about that, but at least we can all agree that anything's better than letting Nick (or especially Hartmanhimself) handle the show again.
@Jonathan Menzies dude, you need to learn to separate the art from the artist. Butch has proven that he’s incapable of keeping audiences around with the shows he makes. He had 2 good shows, one ended on an ok note and the other ended with a whimper.
The way this show defined so much of my life and continues to do so to this day is just ONE of the reasons I love and adore it so much. I'm gonna go on record to say that I'm THE number one fan of this show.
Loved this, Danny Phantom has been my favorite show pretty much ever since it started so this video was such a delight to see. A friend I made through the DP phandom & I have had a lot of fun laughing with it for its troupes & various things, we even talked about down to how the music resembles that of a sitcom. The show allowed me to learn a lot about myself & came in at the perfect time, it aired right when I was 12 1/2 so I was 6 months away from turning 13 & becoming a teenager. I was born in late September of 91 so yeah, just about a week off from being exactly 6 months away. It was definitely a well needed series for me in middle school like there's so few shows that appeal to a teenage audience & Danny Phantom definitely did the trick, especially given I'm a 90's kid & grew up with these troupes & that I enjoy satire, it was just such a perfect fit for me. Thank you for this, always love when someone can talk about my favorite show.
I recently revealed the genders of my two girlfriends. It got a lot of hate and now has 30 times more dislikes than likes. I am really sad that people can be so mean. Sorry for using your comment to talk about my problems, dear ras
It’s basically Steve Marmel who is the true creator in my eyes since he did the writing for s1 and s2 of the show. Butch is given way too much credit for that.
The show: He's gonna catch em all cause he's Danny Phantom Ash Ketchum: Am I a joke to you? If Ghostbusters existed in this world, this series would've been a lot shorter
Bruh, if I ever get to be financially stable, I will be supporting your channel. I love your content. I thoroughly enjoy everything I see of yours. Pause. Keep doing what you're doing.
I've been in this phandom for a long time, and it never ceases to amaze me that almost every great thing about this show was done by complete accident by a buffoon or by someone other than the creator.
I recently got back into Danny Phantom and this has to be one of my favorite reviews regarding the show. More often than not you see review videos that complain about the changes that happened around the second season and into the third season or bitching about Hartman, which yeah he’s definitely fallen from grace, but the fact that he’s an asshat still trying to milk the reputation of his early success (FOP, DP, TP) for all its worth doesn’t mean fans of his work should feel sour towards it. Rake the man and Nickelodeon through the coals all you want, but leave the shows out of it. Anyway, you point out a lot of things that I actually have noticed over time with the show - the level of awareness, the embracing of tropes without keeping them one note, and the growth - which I don’t see a lot of people focus on or they just go with the typical view of tropes in the negative sense and that’s a real shame on their part. I really do wish that more shows now put more of an effort, but now a lot of animated shows that are suppose to be marketed towards KIDS are just… lazy? Cheap humor? Thoughtless? It’s either jokes that are really low bar or jokes that even an adult watching would be like, “whoa. Okay… is that really okay to have on a kids show cuz that’s going to lead to questions…” To sum it up, really appreciate finding this video and would love to see if you’ve possibly thought of touching on the subject of DP again in the future. Maybe about ideas regarding that untapped potential?
I should go back and watch more Danny Phantom. I liked it growing up but can't say I watched it as much as SpongeBob, Jimmy Neutron, or Fairly Odd Parents. And I don't remember much of it.
Love these videos man. Since Im looking for a 4 year school for film/digital media in another couple semesters, im really into the analytical skill in these videos, and these are all about the shows that made my childhood!! Great stuff dude.
This was one of my favorite shows growing up, I remember that day 17 years ago watching the first episode and thinking this was awesome. It was axed way too soon because the show was really hitting it's peak another victim of the accursed Viacom model.
I feel that ppl use the word "trope" in such a negative way. I think when shows start the trope and don't finish it, it just ends up bad. But when it is fully baked and used in the correct format it can rlly add to plot.
I only saw one episode of this show, I was a little too old for it when it was on air. It was the box ghost episode. and to this day, I still quote that box ghost shit. next level funny writing.
I'm pretty sure that's everyone's lol 😂 Ps. This is a joke. If you like fairly odd parents, it's also a good show and you're free to like whichever one you want
This shows just because something is a "cliche" doesn't mean it's automatically bad, I hate how that's seen as a negative thing in today's era. Being stereotypical isn't a bad thing, and yes, a lot of people are still stereotypical today. At this point everyone just tries way too hard to be different for nothing more than just for the sake of being different. No one wants to be like "other people" but you're ALWAYS gonna be like other people, in one way or another.
The whole teen hero fighting their evil alternate future selves thing was also done in more recent years in the power rangers comics with the “Shattered Grid” story line in which Tommy and the other rangers have to fight Lord Drakkon who is an alternate evil future version of Tommy and his right hand Ranger Slayer who, spoiler alert for those who haven’t read the comics or played “Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid”, is an alternate evil future, and mind controlled, version of the pink ranger Kimberly.
