OnePlus has smashed it out the park with its 2024 flagship. So what makes the OnePlus 12 such a good device? Find out in Android Police's review of the OnePlus 12 - 1 month later!
I love the cameras & color science on 1+ I get so tired of the Same BS line about the cameras not being good when in my opinion they totally Kill Samsungs.
@@katinasoutherland7693It's from reviewers that don't actually use OnePlus phones. I know my OnePlus Open can beat the iPhone 15 Pro Max, s24u and the pixel 8 Pro
This phone has been great. Although there are a few minor things that I love to see worked out with some updates. To me this is slightly better than s23 ultra.
@@ratkomarkovic8330 Objectively speaking the jump from OP7 to 12 is too big so ofc my mind is blown. OP7 pro was another gem of its era but still 12 is much better. Almost everything in 12 is on par with other flagships like Galaxy S24 or iphone 15 pro. The display is a beast, bright and UI responsive like stock android on pixel with lots of improvements with oxygenOS. The camera setup is great, battery is gr8. The phone is giving flagship value at 60% of the price so don't think you can go wrong buying it.
I had a Sony Xperia 1 IV, but the OP 12 is much better for me. Better battery, faster charging, fits better in the hand even though it is bigger, I even prefer the camera to use. I am really satisfied. OP did a great job
I've had my OP 12 for a couple of weeks and really like it. The curved screen isn't an issue for me-while not a plus, it hasn't cause any problems either. I use a case, as I expect most people do, and have had zero accidental touches. I'm glad the phone came with a screen protector pre-applied; if I'd had to put one on myself, I might not be neutral about the curved screen. I found the comment about the flat color profile surprising. The colors just look natural to me-neither muted nor over-saturated.
I compared the colours side by side with my oneplus 9, and even if the 9 is still a great phone, the 12 has it easily beat. I changed the colour profile to see how deep the colours could get, and I am greatly satisfied to say the least, no complaints what so ever. I tried watching a 4K HDR test on the phone and I was blown away, it looks so beautiful!
OnePlus has been on the rise since the 11. With a few more improvements, added features and fine tunings, the OnePlus 13 could crush everything in 2025.
I don't get it....people keep saying that OnePlus 12 doesn't reach the level of Galaxy S24 Ultra or iPhone 15 Pro... To tell the truth, I myself did a camera test and in many cases the One Plus was better...One Plus 12 does reach the level of flagship smartphones!!! One thing to note... in case of video... best on iPhone.
I also think that you're dealing with many reviewers who hold strong bias or are paid to say certain things. They'll never give other phones do credit when big Sammy or Daddy Apple has them in their pocket. However, that being said, OnePlus does still have some work to do on their software. My biggest gripe is that I can't track through a song on the lock screen. That's retarded.
You are absolutely right... at the end of the day everything in the world has advantages and disadvantages and when I look at advantages versus disadvantages I would definitely prefer OnePlus over other companies@@adamrush8360
Absolutely agree. I bought and compared the op12 and the s24u and most of the time, oneplus came better. Insane when you think about how bad they always were in this department. I sold my s24u.
I've been using the OnePlus 12 for a couple of weeks now and I absolutely love it. Truthfully, I feel like they got everything in the design correct the first time. Personally, I love the curved glass. It is far more ergonomic and easier to hold than a flat slab Flintstone phone. Furthermore, curved glass has a far more premium look. Simply put, there's nothing long in the tooth about the design. It's ergonomic and it makes sense. I would also like to add how much I love the look of the camera module. It's different and it sets them apart from other manufacturers. It's impossible to gain brand recognition when your device blends in and looks like every other device. Again, the design language makes total sense.
Thank you for writing this you literally TOOK the WORDS out of my mouth. I’d like to add these reviewers need to come up with something better to talk about when it comes to the cameras the color science is simply amazing on OnePlus gone are the days of having BAD cameras.
@@katinasoutherland7693 indeed, you're quite correct. Their cameras have been a non-issue for quite a while. I've watched many of this reviewers videos over the years and he always puts extra scrutiny on OnePlus devices. I've already purchased a Tudia Merge Grip case for my 12 and I have a original sandstone bumper case on the way. When the aramid fiber case comes back in stock I will be purchasing that as well. Those are my three go to cases and I have the same three for my 11.
@@katinasoutherland7693 it's an incredible device. It seems like they won't give any device a decent review unless it has a flat screen and perpetual right angles.
I've been using OnePlus phones for a little over 7 years. While the fingerprint scanner on the 6T was a bit slow, I found that the fingerprint scanner on the 11 and 12 works very well. On my old 6T, if the fingerprint scanner seems slow, I would just rescan my fingerprints. But in the year that I had my OnePlus 11, that was never an issue. And now it's even better with the 12. I work with my hands, and at times I'll have calluses or skin abrasions. So I'm used to having to rescan if need be
@@samarthmahajan4207 hey dude, I do also have a 6T I bought 5 years ago in 2019 and will go for the 12. I have absolutely 0 doubts that you'd enjoy the change. 6 generations apart. Seriously, would be impossible not to enjoy the upgrade
It depends because the assistant integration on the phone and when paired with the pixel buds pro is unbeatable imo although this phone is fantastic sounding i wouldn't swop my pixel 7a for it id just like to own both
I Just got my Oneplus 12 around 5 days ago. Everything is amazing except for one small issue... the edges of the screen seem to have some touch response delay, especially noticable when typing the letters "p" and "q". I know for a fact that this is a software issue because when I switch the phone into landscape mode, the curved edges have instant response and the touch delay is then on the left and right (which would be the top and bottom of portrait mode obviously). Anyone have any solutions?
I really like this phone and am very tempted to get this. I want away from IPhone and was thinking the Pixel 8 Pro, S24 plus or a z Fold. I think the one plus 12 is more value for money. As for the AI stuff, you can just use Google photos for editing etc, it’s what I use on my iPhone 13 Pro. I’m not arsed about the circle to search stuff or asking AI to write me an email! Maybe it’s because I’m nearly 50 so not clued up with that. A good video and gives me more to think about.
I've moved from S23 ultra to Todd phone and I have to say that the OnePlus 12 is an amazing device. It's so much more affordable than any newer Samsung or Apple.
Go with Oneplus. Oneui (samsung) is honestly extremely bad & not optimized. Pixel 8 Pro is close to be "good" but really isn't yet. The camera software on the pixel is laggy & simply not smooth. Overall software experience on Pixel is pretty good overall but battery life is bad. Oneplus is fast, effecient, smooth camera app (smoother than S24 Ultra & P8P) & pretty impressive software now. Honestly the AI features is a gimmick. Not worth it i would just go with the Oneplus
I switched to it from an Xperia 1 iii. The battery life is insane. I used to struggle to get one day, now I can almost get 3. For my use case, there are some MASSIVE flaws though... first being the lack of google assistant call screening. It was a feature I used constantly and now it's gone. Second, the speakers on this phone sound horrible compared to my old Xperia. Maybe that's saying more about the Xperia.. but it's a huge let down. The min vol is also too loud on the 1+12. My final issue is the curved display. It just looks and feels worse than a flat display. I don't really understand why they insist on it.
I have been an iPhone user since the iPhone 7. And now Im upgrading from the 12 pro max to the OnePlus 12, arriving tomorrow! Im very much looking forward to that upgrade, absolutely excited. And I had no consideration of the s24u or the 15 pro max, as I want a great all-around phone which I think the OP 12 really is, and incredible value. Hope I can quickly adjust to Android again, haven’t used one since 2016.
@@elindenstein Pretty amazing, to be honest! I'm not missing anything from iOS and my iphone, but I quickly learned how far Android has come! All added productivity features like the keyboard clipboard, split screen and floating windows have really been greatly appreciated. The notifications are so much better experience as well, it's a night and day difference. I'm not even talking about customization which is often taunted by Android fanboys because while there, it's not what's the biggest value add for me - it's the other things I mentioned above.
@@ngachonmiyomoa3400 I'm very happy with it! Colors are amazing and very, very accurate. And they recently added the ability to switch camera lenses while recording video with a simple button tap, same as before you started the recording.
Great review! Since OP7P, which i used 3 years until all cameras sadly stopped working---this will be the first OnePlus release (besides a quick CE 3 Lite pitstop) which has me jump ship. On paper it seems solid, and all the negatives can be overlooked. My only grip with the design is camera and waterfall screen. You miss out on screen real estate, and swiping gestures can be awkward with a case on. It was with OP7Pro anyhow. Besides that, looking forward to having a flagship to play emulation on. Hopefully SD8G3 will get sorted too have performance at the level it should be at.
Exactly my worry is I would never be back to samsungs and iphones unless they bring 100w fast charging. This tech spoils you big time. I had my phone at 5% dying this morning. Put it on charge and went to take a dump for 10 mins I got it to 35% enough to take me through the day.
@@freud1025how about you charge yout phone overnight and not ruing your battery by continuously putting strain and heat on it by using 100w all the time lol.
@@joezmoma19285it does though, more heat produced = more strain. doesnt matter if you have 3 separate cells or gazillion technologies to try and prevent it from causing even the smallest harm, it still does harm the battery in the long term. unless you absolutely must use it for an emergency or something like that, you should stick to 10-15w.
Amazing device. So smooth. Love the curved screen. Perfect with a case. Glass has gotten good enough to not really bother with protectors IME. As long as you're even semi mindful which pocket you do or don't put your 800-2k phone in.
I love that the op12 doesnt have any ai crap, i traded in my s23 ultra for the 12 cause i was forced to have ai crap on my phone, and it made my phone a brick, i hate ai
Personally i love the design, phones are getting to dull and designs staying so similar and conservative. The unique and kinda flashy design is why i love it because it also looks really high end and professional and i love having a phone that's different and stands out especially with the marble emerald Green color it's in
@@speedshifter101 I really like it as it's something new compared to other phones. I would say it does feel bulky when using one handed, especially because I have small hands.
Got the craziest deal from oneplus , thanks to the Green line issue. I traded my almost 4 year old onplus 8 pro for 35k INR equaling to $422 US onplus voucher & bought the 512 version Oneplus 12 for just 34999 INR - $422 US using the voucher.
@@baryonyx9642 I think they are quite rare in the wild and the later One+ 12 may be region locked to China if sold there. Also I think the 24GB/1TB has the satellite link the other versions seem to lack or it has not been discovered thereon.
5 year OP 7t USA owner here(2019 model), as a chef and constantly putting the phone in danger via water damage and all the grease and debris it only suffered from debris in the usb. That phone fell out of my pocket at an intersection and was run over reapetdly but the screen never cracked. that phone was never IP rated either. The glaring thing with me is the battery, it is true that battery life is anxiety With my 5 year old phone it bacame an issue via debris and i actually pressure washed it but the fact is that batteries die over time and a detractoras well. my phone still works and only dealing with corrosion besides that it is still an extremeley fast phone 5 years later without that fast charging at times ALL I want is a fast charging phone
Dont understand why they regress on some things like water resistance... the Oneplus 8 Pro had IP68 protection and was cheaper. They still paid for the IP65 certification so whats the excuse?
A great phone without all the unnecessary gimmicks being pushed by every other Android manufacturer. It feels clean and responsive. Closest to an iPhone in regards the OS and lack of BS.
Just had to improve the portrait shots quality, especially human subjects and facial details. They tend to still smoothen the face and lacks sharpness and details all the time, compared to iphones and samsungs, the image is really soft with portrait shots. Not noticeable if seen alone but if you compare it with the shots from other flagships, then it is clear with the missing details and sharpness. I really hope OnePlus improves this soon with an update. Always miss the fine textures and crisp details.
The only issue I have is the 4 years of support. Currently on an iPhone 11 that I’ve been using for about 5 or so years and it still runs fairly well despite the battery barely keeping it together. The only thing keeping me from this phone is that I’m sure it’s gonna be out of support before the device lets out its last breath. I wanna keep it as long as possible, software included
It offers 4 years of os support with 5 years of security patches. On average most people keep a smartphone for about 3 years. The 7 years that Samsung and Google are offering is mainly a marketing ploy. Besides, if you want to keep using the 12 then all you have to do is open the bootloader. It will allow you to install a custom rom.
Im sure its a great phone but i had to return both the op10 pro and op11 because it would not work with android auto. Never had a problem with any of my pixels or samsungs. Even the xperia 1IV connected right away. Thats just a deal breaker for me. Hopefully the worked out that issue on this model.
Had a OnePlus 7pro and 8pro now using a s23 ultra, i do miss the OnePlus interface and little features OnePlus has to offer but overall s23 ultra is a solid overall phone.
to be honest. i have both Oneplus 12 and Samsung S24 Ultra with me, i use both daily for last 2 weeks. I personally like the Oneplus 12 more, because it is better battery, same speed as S24 Ultra on gaming, alot faster charging. Oneplus 12 is really more affordable, I only paid $569.99 with all the student discount, promotion code and $100 trade in any phone in Oneplus website. I think for $569.99 is the best price for the best phone of the year , and sure it is a flagship killer. Oneplus 12 is a better phone than Samsung S24 Ultra. this is all my own personal usage experience.
I am considering buying it from china since the Chinese version comes with 24GB of ram and 1TB of SSD for the same price as its being sold where i live
I have this and the S24 Ultra and it's a struggle choosing which to use. I love them both, this phone is brilliant and an absolute steal at it's price point.
What's the point of all the high-end, flagship options if the battery can't keep up with it all!? They cost you so much money, and you have to save on many options and carry a charger around to push through the day. Finally, a premium smartphone with a flagship battery! Congrats to Bbk! Great review 👍👍
Eh, I wouldn't necessarily call photos from OP12 "oversharpened", especially if we compare those to Samsung which is the main offender here. Also the fast and reliable shutter does a lot of the difference. By the way the lack of bullshit ai "features" for which I would have to pay in the future is actually a plus for me, especially since most probably most of those will be embedded in future android versions anyway.
Wanted to upgrade from my S10lite to the S24ultra...but...S24ultra suffers from the grainy display issue or mura effect available in the low brightness in dark mode that has not been fixed with the latest software updates even indicating a hardware issue. Even Gsmarena and Tom's guide acknowledged this in their latest reviews but Samsung has not yet acknowledged this. Display experts are attributing this to be a hardware problem. Customers are crying in different social media platforms for the replacement but the replacement units have the same problem. I need the best display for watching multimedia content. So l ordered the OP 12. This time OP didn't buy the display from Samsung for the green line issue instead bought it from BOE and BOE and OP researched 2 years in making this display. Brothers...how is the display...please give ur honest opinions...Love from lndia.
The OnePlus 12 is very good but I’m surprised the OnePlus 12R does a lot of what this phone does at a much cheaper price. Most people would be happier with the impressive 12R at the cheaper price
No arguing that honestly. The 12R almost got me to switch from the 12 when I was buying it. I hadn't done enough home work on the R though at that point, and didn't wanna lose out on the free wireless charger with my 12. The R is more phone than probably 75% of people need, and $3-499. OnePlus got me back with the 12. I was there from day One withe the One, 3T, and 5T. Then OneUI poached me away for a bit.
Yeahhhhhhhhhh I'm in the same boat. I went with the 12 but I'm already kinda starting to wish I went with the 12r. 😂 Like this is a great phone and it's got all the bells and whistles but the 12r is the better buy.
@@adamrush8360 better buy is arguable depending on what you need. I don't regret anything about the 12. It's amazing. It's the best non "Ultra" phone there is right now IMO. There's no topping the Ultra honestly, no topping it's price either however. If they (OP) could offer a software backed, integrated stylus, and a desktop mode like Dex...at an approachable price, even on a foldable, I'd have no need for future Samsungs.
Okay so in the past month alone I've owned -iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Plus, Pixel 8 Pro, S24 ultra, Xiaomi 14 Ultra and now the One Plus 12 512gb/16gb. All things being considered, I have to say I love this phone! I hadn't owned a one plus device since the 6T, and I'm pleasantly surprised with this phone. 👍🏻👍🏻
No AI is actually a plus in my book! Huge battery, 16go of ram and best raw performance overall make it an easy replacement for my Oneplus 7 Pro, I wish I wouldn't get a downgrade on the screen with this stupid punch hole but 2019 to 2024 is as far as I could wait for someone to fix this issue... Can't believe it took 5 years to phone in general to finally reach 16go of ram overall in the high end.
@@L1ven Yeah and the only reason I'm gonna let my 7 Pro rest is because my screen reached a crazy level of Burn-in and my battery has an 8 hours duration lol, the specs are still sooo good for having all my apps open at the same time (thank you 12go of ram) and since I don't game on my phone I don't care for the rest.
i took a chance by ordering early before all the reviews were up and getting the preorder bonuses. Forget sub-$1000, there is no phone that could match the $650 price point I got... for the higher end model (16/512GB) plus a free wireless fast charger. I fear every phone I look at for the next 5 years will feel like a rip-off.
Only downsides I see are the curved glass (if they cant figure out the ghost touches), optic fingerprint sensor, and the fewer OS updates. Besides that, i see a winner for the price.
What I've been seeing on this phone I like. I've always had Samsung and want to move away from them when my S21 needs to be replaced. This phone looks powerful and the price definitely beats Samsung. I've never bought a phone from anywhere other than a carrier store but I'm sure I can figure out how to activate it on Verizon without much trouble.
And what is that green color bottle shaped thing you got there. Thats interesting.what is that? And you're right with the display colors, in the effort of making everything like camera images, display colors true to life, they have over done it by really removing the colors. Trying really hard to give an experience of true tone and unsaturated looks. They need to slow down with it.
The best and most complete OnePlus and handset out there that ever made from every aspect in my opinion and especially compared to the competition price.
curved edges and the comically enormous camera bump are putting me off the op12. why do all the chinese OEMs make their phones have absurd camera clusters? they could have easily just put small metal rings around the lenses like samsung does.
Well said bro at last oxygen is needed for life and not the colors. I mean oneplus is bought by us n not oppo. The os needs to be diversified or else what is usecase?
I want to love my oneplus 12 but I do not get the same battery life as mentioned by several reviewers. And I don't even have the screen on for majority of the time since I'm at work. My midrange a34 after I'm all done with work has at least 50% left When I was using my op12, I would have 37% Both start from 6am to 5pm. Do I have a dud battery?
did you transfer your old phone apps and settings to the new phone by using clone phone? If thats the case you need to factory reset and manually add the older apps in your phone. The reason is that when you use clone phone you port your settings and tweaks to the new phone and itll be inefficient as whatever bad settings you have in your older phone will get adopted in the new phone.
It could be a bad battery but at the same time, I'd review the battery settings on the phone. OnePlus has a menu that shows you suggestions on how to get better battery life. Go through those and see if it helps but I do concur with the previous comment that if that doesn't resolve the issue, factory reset and try to manually add the apps back. If that still doesn't work, I do believe you have a defective unit.
@joeeemama1906 thanks for the reply and no I didn't do any transfer. I did see online that perhaps I need to drain the battery to 0 and charge it all over again so the battery can calibrate.
Just got an open box excellent condition OnePlus 12 for 650 and got it..i also own a galaxy s24+ but this OnePlus phone is top notch all the way around with a much better battery
