@@NoodleSoup56 No, they have all appeared before. Wiggly shows up in Black Friday, the show before this one. The others all make appearances in different episodes of Nightmare Time: Blinky - Watcher World Nibbly - Honey Queen Tinky - Time Bastard Pokey - Yellow Jacket
There's also sort of connection between each of the dual roles. Tinky and Nibbly are kind of hedonistic and instinctual, doing things based on what's fun or constantly consuming, respectively, which puts them as opposites of the Chastity's who want to suppress any primal or hedonistic urges. Mayor Lauter wants to be in control, and Pokey is about being the apotheosis, the single voice in the universe. Ruth wanted to be the center of attention while Blinky looks at everything. Richie was the lowest rung on the social ladder and only got one day of feeling like he wasn't a loser before Max took it from him, while Wiggly is the leader of the lords and kills Max, making him his bitch.
Also I feel there’s a parallel warranted between Wiggly and Paul (I swear it’s not just because they’re played by Jon) Wiggly is an arrogant immature and purely manic being, while Paul is fairly-tempered and quite literally “just some guy”. Also Jon’s acting for Wiggly is very reminiscent of Paul’s slow corruption during Let It Out, which itself was inspired by him wanting to perform aJekyll and Hyde self-duet thing
I feel like Wiggly is using Richie’s body and here’s why: “What’s in your pock-et, Steph-a-nie?” That is EXACTLY the cadence that Richie speaks in, and maybe I’m reading too deep into it this is the same actor who’s been doing that cadence for the vast majority of his screentime so maybe it was an unconcious slip but…it FEELS more important than that…
i also love how Wiggly looks really fed up when he says, "Go nighthawks" and immediately after he does so he just looks like he's questioning in his head, "who wrote this garbage"
@@myplace4play yep. also i like how Wiggly scolds pokey for his claim that there true forms would melt there minds. After all, we saw Wigglys true form in Black Friday
@@PS-dm1dqFrom what I read although Nibbly is a Lord in Black, they don’t have one true form so they can assume any gender or species they want. But it came down to the fact the Nibbly doll in Nightmare time has pink fur and the fact that Kim was the only other cast member available for the scene that Nibbly appears female. There is also a theory that the Lords in Black represent a high school stereotype. Nibbly would be the popular/80’s cheerleader.
I find it interesting that all the Lords have fur as part of their clothing except for Wiggog Wiggog Y'rath, who has a Wiggly plush on his back. It's like there's fur there, but harder to notice, which sets him apart just as much as his crown
1:39 When Tinky says he’ll have the whole set it’s implied the LIBs know from the start that they’re going to tell Steph to kill Peter. The moment he’s dead, Tinky is gonna lock him in the Bastard’s Box with his brother.
@@_hamhead_ Yeaahh, Ted from TGWDLM!! In Nightmare Time: Time Bastard he wuzz locked in the bastardzz box by Tinky after he traved abt a decade into the past, fucking up hizz brainn. There'zz also anotherr important detail in TB but I'mma let sm1 else spoil that(Or you watch the episode urself lol)
My head cannon for what the LIB would be if they were high school kids Pokey: obviously a theatre kid. Not just because of TGWDLM but also since he’s the most uncompromising ( that just screams pretentious theatre kid to me) Blinky: streamer kid/RU-vid addict who films school fights and eggs on the situation Tinky: pure Rubik’s cube kid(take that statement as you will) Nibly: tennis kid/ fem boy foodie who always hogs the good food from the cafeteria Wiggly: Mathlete/class president (you thought I was gonna say popular jock huh? No!)
So there's five alters to the Lords-in-Black. We've got the Starlight Theatre, the Mall, the Carnival, the Wayland House, and the Highschool. It seems to me that each alter is devoted to one of the lords. Starlight Theatre is naturally Pokey's domain as aside from being dressed as a theatre kid, he's the source of the meteor that crashed into the theatre in TGWDLM. The Mall is devoted to Wiggly as we saw it be his place of power in Black Friday. The Carnival I would call Tinky's domain. Mostly based on vibes to be honest but the toybox comment and his puzzle box give off carnival game vibes. The Wayland House I'd give to Blinky as its what brought Max back to life and he's always lit in dark bluish colours that with a little leeway could be called purple. The Highschool is whats left for Nibbly though I think it's somewhat fitting given how those places devour the souls and crush the spirits of students and teachers alike.
I feel like the carnival could also belong to blinky as we saw in watcher world. It was a carnival type place so that’s another option. Also Tinky’s comment about the toy box is in reference to a nightmare time play where he trapped ted spankoffski in his toy box. Also I feel like nibbly could work better for the waylon place as there was some cannibalism (I think, I’m not sure tho). So that leaves the high school for tinky which could make sense as high school often feels like being trapped in a box for a lot of people.
The Carnival is not a black altar and it would be Blinky’s domain anyway. The Altars are (in the order that Peter and Grace find them on the map - “down town” aka the CCRP Building (Paul’s workplace and Tinky’s favorite place), the Starlight Theatre (Pokey’s base in TGWDLM), the Waylon Place, the Lakeside Mall that was built on top of the old mill (Wiggy’s base in BF), and the school. Nibbly is more likely to haunt the Waylon’s place because they used to sacrifice people to him there before the Church was massacred (see Honey Queen) and Blinky probably enjoys watching the students in the school, but really there’s only 3 locations that are semi confirmed to be associated with a particular Lord in Black.
I know there's extended lore for most of these guys but I haven't seen any of it, but considering that the blue one has a mask he holds up, i have a feeling he's the one behind "the guy who didn't like musicals"
as someone who hasn't seen any of the nightmare time stuff (other than through compilations) I also picked up on pokotho being TGWDLM's Lord, but because of the ""weird blue shit"" being what infects everyone
I really like how all of the forms the lords in black take has some sort of tie in to what they do/are associated with Pokey is dressed like someone in theatre, which is likely referencing the guy who didn’t like musicals Tinky is dressed in clothing that’s full of pockets and wears goggles on his head. Such utility based clothing would imply one of his titles as “the tinkerer” Wiggly is dressed in a crown, obviously referencing his role as the ruler of the black and white, but also wears a suit/letterman jacket type mix. Like a star player in a sport, who you could call “the ruler of a school” Blinky wears glittery glasses, likely referencing his association with, well, eyes. And nibbly is a little more confusing for me, but you could say the pink clothes he wears, other than referencing the color associated with him, could tie into his food associations, as pink stuff is usually tied with sweet things or food. I just thought that was neat.
nope! his real name is wiggog y'wrath. he just uses a cutesy name bc, among other things, wiggly is a much more fitting name for a doll :p (black friday is such a good musical)
I hadn’t been keeping up with nightmare time at all, and I was so lost on the significance of the lords in black. I think I put together Wiggog Y’wrath right before the first fwendy-wends, and after that, I was so blown away…
Someone pointed out under the full musical that it also gives the vibe of being able to glimpse part of his actual form in the peripheral. Like you can slightly make out the eldritch being behind the flesh suit but not fully. But like you said it also adds fur to his costume which idk how else they couldve incorporated with the type of clothing used for Wiggly. Just sad that the other LiB dont have their dolls
@@Jan-jt9jli think that's because only one of the other dolls exist, but they had mutiple wigglys. Tbh I wish they would release the dolls and raise the price to make it Cost efficient-
@@Jan-jt9jl I think the doll makes the most sense for Wiggly, as it is the only doll that actually has been shown to be related to his power (Although I have only seen the first ep of Nightmare time, where Blinky's doll seemingly is unrelated to his powers and just serves as in universe merchandise)
God this song is so damn catchy! I love the costuming, the lighting, the music, just all of it. I never got a chance to watch nightmare time before I saw NPMD, but I immediately binged it afterwards and love seeing the Lords in Black in human form! I can imagine with this being their first musical since the pandemic, it must have been so cool to see these characters that they created/debuted during a time of isolation on stage for the first time in 4 years. As someone who has been watching Starkid since AVPM, it makes me so happy to see how far they've come in terms of production quality and songs. Been listening to this soundtrack on repeat, Jeff really killed it with this show and everyone was just top notch!
does anyone else notice how jon as wiggly crosses his hands and wiggles his fingers a bit??? is he the only one that does that is it because he's a tentacle thing?
Omg i just noticed the opening just before the lords appear is the same as that motif in Black Friday. The one where they go "we will build a portal just for" omg i never noticed that
Is it just me or the part where Wiggly moves Pete's hair while saying "think about it", making steph look at him, is extremely brain tickiling, like- ive tought about this precise scene and how actually perfect it was since ive seen the musical 😭 Tell me im not the only one
I 100% believe the random words in the beginning are the actual names of the lords in black and you can't stop me Pokotho sounds like Pokey, Nibblelinephym could be the one of the lolipop, Wiggog Wiggog Y'rath is a lot like Wiggly, etc. Edit: lmao they are I just haven't seen anything from nightmare time whoops
@@Sidgirl5This musical is what got me into nightmare time!! the good thing is you don't really need to watch in order, I would start with honey queen, people had a hard time with apeman, (i did too at first, good episode but great "first episode" vibes.) Honesty getting into nightmare time made me really enjoy black friday, loved the music but all the characters felt confusing to keep track of... Now i'm kicking my feet when Gerald shows up
Honestly, when I was watching this I was expecting the Lord in Black and White to be scary or something demonic but I won't lie, they look like teletubbies 😭
well, they lampshade it with the whole "holding court in your own tounge and form" line. even Wiggly warning Pokey against scaring the kids...if they were too frightened, the Lords wouldn' t be able to have FUN. I mean..maybe it's hardwired into the book, but it didn't sound like there were any CONDITIONS included in that spell. They showed up "freindly" becasue they WANTED to. It was a win-win situation for them. Watch Jeagerman run amok? good fun. drag him down to drowsy town instead? JUST as fun. and they got an acolyte out of the deal they can manipulate later. Playing with Steph and Peter was icing on the cake(especially for Tinky), but i suspect Grace was always the real target. Inflate her already overinflated sense of superiority. maybe later on they'll try to sic her on some of the REAL problems they have around town...like the one that keeps resetting the timeline everytime they're about to WIN. Havne't you notice? they always zero in on the people who think they "know better" and can "handle it"
@@AlinaAniretake Oh OK, got it now. But I don't get the 'not true' part, then. If they don't do it, they have no way to get rid of Jagerman, and so ... they die ... rieght ?
@@Awelbeckk I mean - usually, when someone says that, they, usually, mean that not in a way "Something might kill you later", or "You'll not survive without us", but usually it gives off a vibe "If you'll give us nothing - we'll freaking murder you on spot" (which is kind of what I could expect from Lords in Black). Technically yeah, it's probably IS true, but something tells me, that line gave me the vibe, of it being not on technical level Could be amazingly wrong, don't worry.
1:46 could steph be a possible honey queen when she grows up (if her interaction with the LIB didn’t happen) because of nibbly taking such interest in her? in nightmare time, nibbly eats the honey queens, and nibbly says “yum yum” at the thought of steph.
Oooo thats such an interesting thought, specially combined with the 'cool as i think i am (reprise)' later in the musical, could show "how far she's willing to go" same with Linda in honey queen (very different motivations but its interesting)
0:52 So I know they are lovecraftian eldritch gods that the can take the shape of anything they want. But since they’re considered brothers yet blinky and Nibly chose to take on feminine forms, is it safe to head canon that they’re fem boys/gender fluid? ❤
@gamingdemigodxiii5630 I would agree but they are very distinctly Brothers and even do have a Sister so gender does exist for them in some capacity at least
@@LovingBallOfApricots I like the idea that at one point Webby was also considered one of their brothers, but when she stopped being evil they decided she wasn't allowed to be a brother anymore and started calling her sister
Watched the Hatchedfield previous play (especially Black Friday) reframing this song for me and giving me a very late hype of Wiggly's first appearance. I'm fuckin too late on the hype, dammit.
lyrics: Pikotho Blikotep T'noy keraxis nibblelinephym wiggog wiggog y'rath Ah-oh-ah-oh oh wiggog wiggog y'rath! Did it work? Hello, Fwendy-wends Out of the depths of hell and back us spawn of the black and white cover our souls with robes of black And take up the arms of night Nibbleine wants his sacrifice and wiggly wants his wrath we dance around the pentagram And take all our kingdoms back Bubble the spell that gets it done Babble it on command wont stop until all the blood is drawn The lords in black DEMAND! You summon us once you summon us twice You gamble it on the roll of the dice La la la la la The devil has won it cant be undone the book has all but closed on your life (im too lazy to make the rest so here u go :D)
I personally really like the choice of the tracking camera shots in this video over seeing the whole thing in one static view. I feel like being forced to look at certain characters when they speak or to follow in a specific direction or pattern somewhat emphasizes how lost and confused and powerless the characters feel in this moment. I really enjoy it.
SPOILER, DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU DON'T WANNA BE SAD. Also this is a rough summary. Peter is Ted's (TGWDLM) brother. Before he turned into a sleazeball, he was once a nerd who was in love with a girl. They both liked each other unknowingly, and he was to late to tell her and she went to Clivesdale with another guy since she thought he didn't love her back. Tinky showed Ted a vision of him and the girl getting married. He went to his office, said it feels like the printer is gonna take 80 years to finish printing, and woke up 80 years later. He accidentally killed a cyborg who hates his guts with a futuristic device, then he goes back to his office and recites the day that the girl left for Clivesdale. He knocked past Ted out, beat up the guy the girl was supposed to leave with (who was the cyborg all along), and went to her. He was super sleazy and she was confused. He accidentally kills her with the device. He goes back to the office but couldn't turn back time. Tinky told him he went too far back. His heart broke. Tinky showed him his toybox, and it showed Ted in different timelines suffering endlessly, and this broke Ted's mind. His voice becomes low and he slurs his words. His mind is slow. He's always looking for home. He picks up clothes in the trash. In present day, he is known as the homeless man. "Spare change for the homeless?"
THEORY (with spoiler) Tinky said Ted went too far back. Why? He went back to 2004. When was Hannah born? 2005. After all, everything leads back to Hannah.
@@emberrain7389 So does this mean Ted getting trapped in past is necessary for all timelines? I might be wrong, but aren't events before Hannah set in stone?
one should also point out that they insist on communicating in the form of....a musical. brief spoken dialogue to communicate details interspersed with musical lines to say what they REALLY want. Even the one line about the phone is the LiB (heh, LiBs will be the ruin of the world) unilaterally REFUSING a sincere (if desperate) offer of payment in a manner that blurs the musical and spoken aspects. it doesn't matter if you are a man (or woman) who doens't like musicals...they aren't going anywhere. They're here to stay..and they're HUNGRY.
