@@colemcdougal7670 yah I'm still debating, the 769 price tag for the salt 2 is up there tho.... Sundown also has a smart version amp like the taramps smart 3&5.. it's their SIA line... I've been researching those as well
98% of product failure is simply from user error. The difference is the people that admit to there mistakes. We are all human & have to all learn the do's & don't in car audio because we are all beginners at some point.
I wouldn't stand up for Skar Audio's business either. Would you stick your neck out for a guy getting bullied when you know he's been a real scumbag in the past?
Damn i gotta get the box for mine built! Thanks for posting these motivational video's for me Parker! Two SAZ-1500 anniversary editions should get it moving in my Ranger
Loving the content dude. It is possible to build one large enclosure with a tuneable port that you can use for all drivers. Give it a 15” cutout and then you only have to make a baffle for each driver that you can attach to the enclosure cutout. If you build a 4-5 cu.ft. enclosure you can then use various measured sizes of wood (attach to interior walls of enclosure with Velcro to ensure no movement) or XPS foam. Whatever you use needs to be solid/closed cell so that a 1 cu.ft. block for example actually acts as a 1 cu.ft. block when compressed by air. You can also use an external port to adjust tuning for each driver. Varying lengths of 3-4” piping. This will allow you to test each driver in the optimum box/port combination. What you’re currently doing is fun to watch, but not a fair representation of what each driver is capable of. Keep up the good work my dude!
Exactly my thought! I think it's time he steps up his approach to testing now that he's doing so well.. and to test a Fi sub! (Fi Neo 4.11) like I have in my build on my YT channel.
Parker, great content! You were really pushing that sub! What's the chances of you doing a video similar to this on the nightshade v5?? Have you given testing that sub out any thought?
Pretty disappointed in YOU Parker. I thought you would learn from the 1st review you made on this subwoofer. Your biggest failure is using that tiny box for this massive subwoofer. Your box needed to be increased by nearly 2x. This is why it kept getting stinky and surprised you didnt blow it AGAIN 😆. You got super lucky they fixed it for free as well. ITS THE. LACK OF SIZE IN YOUR BOX THAT CAUSES THIS SUB TO BLOW AND YOU SHOULD GET A LARGER BOX AND THEN DO A 3RD REVIEW. I enjoy your videos but you did this sub no justice on this review...thank you as always!!!
I just bought one but what is all that rattling sound?sub, box, suv,or a little of each? I personally think you need a bigger box so I’m getting a 2.5 cubic ft box built after displacement.
Dave Lieb is the man!!! One of if not thee best sub builder there is, I own a pair of Dave Lieb Designs upgraded Sundown X12's and they're absolutely insane! I broke my sunroof on my Lincoln mkx on only 3k with the two 12's them things are violent 👊💪🔊🔊🔊
The Qts Was .39. Usually Subs Under .40 Don't Need A Whole Lot Of Volume For Thier Enclosure. Not Sure If It Correlates With Why Sub Was Louder With Motor In Box. What Kinda Shows The Box Isn't Ideal Is Your Impedance Rise. It's Only Going From .5 To 2.2Ish. My Subs Rise From .5 To 5.8 Ohms A Little Past Box Tuning Hz. Alot Of SPL Guys Rise Even Higher. Oh And Was That Noise When You We're Playing Free Air Just Air Rushing By The Enclosure Opening Or Was That Suspension Creaking/Hissing?
if i were competing, totally worth the money with it holding up to some slight over power and bass burps. but for an daily driver, i think there are other subs in the lower 500.00 range for that. Great video as always!
@@ScramTek ...just get two skar vxf 12s, and you'll be happy with them versus buying and 1 12 at 900 or 500 bucks. One skar vxf 12 by itself will probably give you a real close comparison even if put next to this sundown zv6 12. The sundown would probably take more power, I'm pretty sure, but if you were looking for a everyday listening banging set up, then the skar vxf 12s will fit the bill, while saving you hundreds of dollars. Another thing, in this video, Parker is using a taramps 8k bass amp, to push that one sundown zv6 12. If he was to swap that 1 sundown zv6 12 out, and replaced it with two skar evl 12s, or 2 vxf 12s in this same set up, in this same vehicle, the two skar 12s will perform way better than that 1 sundown zv6 12. And still cost half the price for that one sundown zv6 12 inch sub. So if you are looking for sound instead of name brands to boast about, there are plenty of things to do, and brands to choose from, to get loud and still save.
@@cliffordmcgraw8740 Yeah I’ve heard nothing but good about Crossfire. Only problem is there’s no retailer here in the UK. We have most American brands here but Crossfire is the one I wish was retailed here.
So you think that box was too small and when u blew the dc audio level 5 the box was too big ? I really think your frying the subs with your Brazilian amp u got there ?
You are lacking on port area for that sub, what is the overall dimensions for that enclosure you put it in? Not all 2.5 cubic foot enclosures have the same external or internal dimensions.
The box what you using for testing is optimised for Sundown X12 V2, then of course it have the biggest chance that it will be the loudest - and obivously in your case it was up to date. I'm not saying that it is wrong, just not as accurate SPL results as it could be, because the subs you tested, had not equal chances, because of a box what is not optimal for them - maybe for some close, but not optimal. I mean with this, in my opinion 1 of DeafBonce or American Bass, or Skar sub maybe would outperform the X12 V2 in a proper box made for them, but maybe not... I think this Z easily will outperform the X V2 in a box optimised for it, so yeah, I would like to see it in a proper box. And also an idea: custom boxes made for your best subs. My case: I have a Gladen RS-X 6.5 sub, I made a custom ported box optimised for it's TS parameters from the specs sheet like almost everybody doing when designing a custom box for a sub with not the manufacturer's recommended box specs. I found out that a Sundown X6.5 have similar shaped transfer function graph curve in any box like that Gladen sub, even their peaks are at the same freq in any box in a same listening enviroment, so I compared them with simulations: I simulated the X6.5 in the Gladen's box, and the Gladen was louder by few tenths of dB at the peak + up to 3-3.5 dB off from the peak on it's RMS power (250 W) like the X6.5 on it's RMS power (300 W), but the X6.5 not reached it's xmax, the Gladen just touched it's xmax, because for X6.5 is acceptable a bigger net volume box. After this I designed a custom box for the X-6.5, the X-6.5's peak was louder like the Gladen's in the Gladen's box, and also simulated in the X6.5 box both drivers, had the same transfer function differences like I wrote down just before on their RMS powers. But Gladen overpassed it's Xmax, so, I needed reduce the power for it in simulations, and after that obivously X6.5 became much louder like the Gladen at the peak, even Gladen was quieter at the peak like in it's box, but still a tiny bit louder off from the peak like the X6.5, just now I can't prove this with real tests, because Sundown's stuff is 1 - hardly avialable in my country, or 2 - it is way too expensive mainly because of shipping payments and similar things... So, in any means, boxes optimised for the given drivers giving always the best results like for me: Gladen outperforms X6.5 in a box made for Gladen, because the Gladen box is a bit small for the X6.5, and X6.5 outperforms the Gladen in a box optimised for X6.5, because the X6.5 box is too big for Gladen, and even X6.5 outperforms the Gladen at the peak freq when both are simulated in their boxes = both subs have very similar sounding, Sundown is somewhat louder, but needs a bigger space, Gladen is somewhat more musical/daily, and needs a smaller place...maybe there's something similar reason why all (mainly "flaghip") subs you tested were quieter like the X12 V2 - maybe for some of them is a need for a bigger box because it's not using the driver's max output potential, or some of them is a need for a smaller box because the drivers starting to have bigger excursion at 70 percent of Bl on smaller power like in an optimal box... Or let's say even if the X12 V2 is truely the loudest, but I think the order from 2nd place downwards would be different for sure.
How much wattage did it peak at for 145.3 score? Seeing if it's fair comparison to that EM sub you put 11 thousands watts. Oh you said 5000 watts. Could it handle more than that?
Hey Parker, from your experience what are the “MUST HAVES” with DIY systems? As in the gadgets you use to measure power, hz, dB, etc. I installed my 1st system, basically half assed tuning and would like to get it proper before doing more. Thanks!
What you think about the sound quality of this sub? Jonathon Price said in a video that some people compete in sound quality with these subs which I find hard to believe as I never seen it. But would be nice to have a big sub that does sound really good and accurate instead of sounding sloppy like most all the subs do.
There's a hifi associate of Sundown called Stereo Integrity. I believe they use the same motors but a less stiff suspension to lower the fs. They seem to recommend going sealed with these. Seems they have a big following among DIY audiophiles. You may want to check them out. Though I bet the ZV6 sounds great as is.
it's a gnarly sub for sure, but I think your opinion at the end is pretty spot on, the X series is super close to it now with the v3 especially. Good bang for your buck with the X and the Z is more for the extreme end of the spectrum.
did a 146.2 metered on the headrest with 1x10" Zv4 back in the days. was running it on a saz3500 in 0.5ohms... Killed 2 of them in the end (had a reserve)
No joke about working with such a heavy sub...my DB-412 weight 95lbs each....about crushed my finger tips a couple times...and just getting them in my truck was tough..let alone pulling them in and out while messing around with my setup
Im surprised that Dave had the time to repair your sub. I had him build me four Sundown X8V3 with his DL Designs upgraded coils, one of them blew the tinsel lead within a few months. I tried contacting him several times, using several different methods but never got a response. I ultimately had to pay to get it repaired. I am not knocking Sundown or the subs that Dave builds but I cannot recommend him due to poor customer service and not honoring his warranty. I wish people would take pride in their work and take care of their customers.
We have sent several messages Dave and not one reply either so, yea, we will shop elsewhere. People get "too big" and then forget the people who helped get them there. "The customer"
Parker I have a question?? Have you ever tried a psi star 🌟 power 5000k Amplifier?? And what happens if you have two power connections and two grounds for the Amplifier and just hook up one of each?? Is it bad for the Amp?
Great example of when a guy says all you have to do is invert the subwoofer, give it more airspace in its enclosure and it will be louder. Inverting is not always the answer
hey i’m getting one of these for my bronco but im wondering what sub you would recommend me to get i’ve heard people recommend a salt 4 and some an sbf or something but im not sure what i want or what’s better.
It didn't blow because the box was too small. Smaller boxes actually allow subs to handle power better, bigger boxes make them easier to blow because of less control.
It blew because it wasn't fully broken in it takes months for sundown SUBWOOFERS to break in I bought a psi platform 4 and it took almost 6 months to break in those spiders are very stiff on those spl subwoofers
@@scottypknowmsayin6918 I still have it takes a lot of abuse ran 8k taramps on it until I could smell the coils been having it for about 4 years now No problems?
@@ceciljones1248 wicked. That is another one of my potential options. B2 Rampage XM4, DC Level 6 and PSI Platform 4 were my tip choices. These ZV6 seem to do quite well too. Just not as fancy looking. DC and PSI are the most customizable.

I know who made that box, like the guy specifically considering the place it's from lol you in the mt vernon area or did that thing just make it's way to you?
Buddy you need twice the box you got for that monster and that sub is a 6th order bandpass monster. It will go hard in a 4th order too but 6th order will make it go bonkers. That 1 sub is a 150 db all day sub in that truck with that amp
