Recone and you'll love it. Just an honest oops. 3500 watts clean power and you'll never have a problem. They're not Super Saiyan subs they're just high motor Force drivers but they still need to be used correctly. Great video and accountability. You didn't even blame sundown and it very much could have been quality control as well. A lot of people are going to chime in to your videos and your respect will grow because of how candid you are.
That sounds about right from what I've read on the car audio pages a good 3-inch coil sub will take 3-4k rms clean once you start pushing them above that it will work, but it's like how long will it still keep pounding with that much power
@@madscientist6869 possibly double RMS and clipping (regardless of what the clip indicator on the amplifier showed). Slight clip at double RMS or playing an octave below tuning. So many factors and variables about a subwoofer blowing. 90% of the time it's user error. Manufacture defects absolutely happen. But I build for a living and I've never blown a z-sub and I personally run zv5 drivers. Personally put 20,000 clamped to 4 18s. Never a blown sub.
What I love about this video is how you take full accountability for your mistakes and are completely honest about what happened! You even reveal how even some of the top subs can face certain death under the wrong conditions. Much respect for this!
i one time didnt keep my secondary agm battery charged after gutting my system out and i killed the battery. went to finaly charge it one day and didnt hold a charge at all. 400 dollar mistake
i love how easy going and honest you are, especially with the mistake being made and admitting to it and not blaming anyone else. i got into your vids because i was trying to upgrade my 10 year old system. ive been running 2 alpine type Rs in a ported box on a hifonics 1700.1 for since and it still pounds lol. after watching a ton of youtube i just ordered a sundown 15 xv3 and jp23v2. cant wait. thanks for the vids
Parker, I had talked to the Audio apex guys at one of the shows and they told me that they could arrange an appointment for me to bring my subs in to their shop in Nc where they would recone it while I hung around out in town. They said that would cost (approx. $100 a piece) I know you don't live to far off from there so it could be an option. It would make an awesome video to if they let you film some. Something to think about.
Likely the fact that the coil heated up too rapidly and expanded being that flat wire coils have to go through a heating/ cooling process during break in. If it's not done or not done properly the flat wires (being so close to each other) won't let the coils glue offgass properly and will trap gasses between the layers causing the wire layers to bulge outward or inwards. Round wire coils don't do this as often as they have more gap between the wires allowing for gasses to escape a bit easier.. Some companies perform the off gassing heating/ cooling process in steps at the factory to the coils themselves before assembly of the whole sub, I'm not sure if Sundown does this to their subs to prevent coil failure but I know a few companies that do. Not a Sundown fan myself but still a bummer to see subs go bad
Might also have to do with the enclosure was not made for this sub. He always uses same box and puts different subs in it. Not really really showing a subs potential in a box not built to spec and tuned to the fs of the sub
We're not going to lie to each other, he always took the same shitty box to do his tests while doing his showoff and the only thing he showed us today is the OVER X-MAXX that his sound box will force his subwoofer to do...very brilliant
This is interesting, my zv6 is still working just fine but stinks pretty bad. I have pics of the coil and she definitely got hot. Had no idea about this flat coil break in shit.
This is why I run 4" coil drivers once I go past 3k RMS per sub. No matter what you do a 3" coil can only handle so much heat where the 4" coil has a lot more surface area.
@@________GHOST________ Excursion really doesn't mean much in a ported enclosure. Besides a properly designed driver with a 4" coil can have just as much Xmax/Xmech as a 3" coil driver.
@@________GHOST________ excursion isn't everything. Motor force, piston & suspension durability, and power handling, in the proper enclosure, is what nets good results. Subs hardly move at tuning frequency, thier ability to compress air with great force becomes the main factor when trying to get dumb loud. Large excursion drivers compromise peak motor strength for linearity. It's a direct compromise.
@@cfrazier8400 guess your wrong. You are talking about a neo motor that has a ton more cooling than a normal ferrite vented pole. Hint, never assume someone doesn't know what they are talking about.
Bummer. Excited to see you test the big boy subs. Don't get me wrong, I like the budget subs also. I'm running DC Elite XL'S in my jeep and for now a JLW6V3 in my daily. But I'm thinking of getting something that slams a little harder for the daily (I have a JP23 amp just sitting around) I was kinda looking at the Sundown Xv3. Only cause Sundowns are on sale. Heck I might get some bigger subs for the jeep and put the Elite's in the daily. If I go that route I'll have to get some more lithium and a 20k or so also for the jeep. I have enough electrical in the daily for my 6k I'm already using in the jeep. Decisions, decisions lol. Also considering Deaf Bonce, but I really like DC. Tell you what though if I was Jacob I would send you a new Zv6. Love what you are doing, keep it up.
You live in North Carolina close to Sundown themselves. I would go get it re-coned rather than wait and buy another. I think a lot of other people feel the same way. Love the videos and keep bassing on!!!
I'd enjoy a recone video... I reconed my X12's after watching a couple you tube videos and it was a surprisingly easy job with just some printer paper and proper glues.
yes get this some attention im looking into psi subs but don't see a whole lot of in depth reviews. any video of them does bang hard, but I just wanna see this style of review lol
Those are comp subs who runs 4” coils and 10k daily? I would love to but who has the money to do it shit would cost $10k easy unless you do a bunch of cheap Brazilian crap!! A pair of those need a Korean 12k-20k to get the best out of them! If all you got is a normal 1500 watt amp forget it you want even tickle them!
95 lbs is not easy to carry around but not easy on the daily driver either if you own two or more. Thank goodness for Neo magnets. Bummer about the sub. But made for an interesting vid! 👍🏻
This is why I swear by running in subs as you would an engine, give it time to get hot and cold a heap of times before going full send to allow the glue properly set on the VC plus loosening the soft parts
He broke it in for like a week. He did it right. That coil was just a defective coil. It happens to the best of them. Every one in a thousand is gonna be defective for whatever reason. Sundown needs to take care of the man and send him a new sub. He spent $1000 on that thing and it lasted a week.
That black glue some manufacturers use is really good for holding together at high power , no sub single sub is going to handle an 8k amp all day long , 8000 watts is a lot of heat !!!
instantly you can hear how much more louder this zv6 sub is in comparison to all the other that have gone before it cuz damn it's vibration G the roof and garage easily twice as much as any sub prior... sick as fook man. Buzzin. I'm only a couple minster in btw.. man i love this issh: )
Definitely an eye opener. I will be running 2 sundown nsv5 on a taramps 8k bass and was just thinking about doubling up on the amp until now. 4K watts each of clean power should be plenty
4k is definitely all you need but this wasn't because of the size of the amp, it was either enclosure wrong size, amp clipping, or defective sub-I've had a scv7500 per sub at .5 ohm and below using ZV5s, ZV6s, and NSV4s and never had this happen.
my DB 3015 is eating my MD8k. I’m kinda surprised I haven’t blown it yet. im clipping it too when I music demo for my friends. I cant even imagine 2 of those beast in my Subi. Happy Thanksgiving Parker!
You should check out Resilient Sounds... I upgraded to RS team 18s over zv5 18s and I'm loving them. 5k rms rated... Easily they take 10k from everything I've seen about em.
It’s easy to do trust me you can recone it I did my first one on a zv5 and it went right in perfect I used paper for the shims and it’s still going that’s been almost 2 years ago
Here I am in the middle of the night thinking about subwoofers 🔊 😂 Was planning on doing 8-12 vxf15’s but I wanna play windy lows. And what sub has the most Xmax to get low? Sundown! Now these subs are quite a bit more expensive, like 2.5 times more for the Xv3 , or almost 4x more for the zv6. At this point, I might just have to wait until I figure out which way to go.
Got mine on a crescendo 4K, boxed tuned to 32.25 htz. I tested it at 40 hz 0db and getting no clipping playing it loud. Smelled the glue a little when I was breaking it in. But now it doesent smell at all and the spider has loosened up. Sounds great. Sundown only rated the sub at 2500 watts. I was told a 4K was plenty for it
I have a zv6 15" on a half ohm load. It's powered by a Synergy 2.1 d. Supposedly before box rise is getting between 3 to 3.5 k. I also done a SPL recon for this to get a higher FS it seems like it's louder than the original cone. I'm curious about your enclosure what is the internal cubic foot and did you do a slot port? I listen to a lot of metal with some EDM
It happened to two x series I got from them early this year, it is not your fault. I reconed them. It happened with the first in about 10 mins of playing the second after a few hours of playtime. The coil seperated and was not burnt in the least. on both of them.......
Should make a short video of all your 12s in a line from smallest to biggest motor. Id like to see a side by side comparison of the Jensen js12 and the sundown zv6
8 Layer Coil Typically Expand And Contract More During Heat Cycles Since There Are More Layers Ontop Of Each Other. If It Expands Too Fast / Heats Up Too Fast It Has A Slight Chance Of Unwinding. I Think That May Have Been A Defect Becasue You Would Have Smelt It First. I've Been Basing On Some 8 Layer Coil Subs For Over A Year And They Start To Stink Every Time I'm Getting The Coil Temps Too High.
Just a little side note to anyone Who doesn't know but but taking your Box for example that is tuned to 32 it can only safely play down to 24 hertz So when playing decaf Songs need to be careful on high power Because under that frequency the sub is not controlled anymore by the Box and The subwoofer suspension alone is controlling it and it and can cause over Excursion ( bottoming out or jumping the gap)
@@JasonKerlin ah okay, only reason i was gonna get a v2 is because that would make the RMS 1000 watts under my amp rms, i have a 4000rms memphas audio amp
Respect bud rebuild it with a 8+layer spider pack get a 8k+ coil and spl cone with mega roll u won't be disappointed we did that with a skar dnr it's clear over 150db alone 😉(in chevy Silverado)
i just sold my 2 sa-10's i've been pushing 2k-rms on for 8yrs, they never had any issues. Clearly, tripling the rated wattage is playing with fire... i still want a zv6 tho
Go with DD 99series or Z and you will love it.. cone area will do the work Had 95 esp @DD m5 0,5ohm and took it like champ then bought DD 99series that thing is a beast
The x and zv use the exact same surround, so one can not be taller than the other, also the x and zv are both assembled here in the US, also making your box bigger doesn't mean louder
Parker, please give me your oppinion on this. I have a taramps MD 1800.1 . Shall I get an Xv2D2 sub and wire it down to 1 Ohm or can I get away with geting an Xv3D1 and wire it down to 0.5 Ohm without frying the amp? I'm willing to take the chance, I wont blame you if it fries, but if you say it will fail 100% then I wouldn't try. I just want to enjoy one beast like this and I think that if I wire it to 1 Ohm the MD 1800.1 won't provide enough power for it after impedance rise.
D4 sound gonna give u another sub... no worry.. 🙈 wich i dont think .. seeing clip light @ 7:40.. 7:43.. and the box to small for that thick motor.... not enough cooling..
I heard that they have been having this happening a lot with this specific subwoofer and version of it. I do realize you pushed a lot of power through it but I've been hearing this has been happening. But for me that is unfortunate because I was looking at one of these but I may go with the x v3 I got a Jp23 to hookto it thinking of going with 2 12s n 2 jp23 amps to push them
Hi im new to this but wanting to get subwoofers but I have a question please can you listen to subwoofers for hours or do you need to let them cool down I'm looking at low power subwoofers and not showing off just my personal use probably a 12 inch with about 300 to 500 watts any information is truly appreciated thank you for your time and have a great day fred
I would call Sundown. I won the Zv6-12 in the raffle at the show this year and I have a CAB-45 on it. I beat on it every day. Jacob Fuller will figure something out. They have the best warranty on there equipment. I would just call and let them know what happened or drop by there.
what a shame, that speaker can take power, but what learnt from my nsv4, 1 week wasn't near enough time to break those spiders in, try two months... would of been under incredible forces
Parker please do a video with you buying the parts from lord of bass and rebuilding a sub and show us how to measure and decide what parts and sizes to buy. Doesn't have to be that sundown it could be any basket
Damn that sucks!!! Recone it and sell it. Get a nice 4 inch coil sub like the B2 Audio Rampage if your wanting to abuse the hell out of a sub. 3 inch are nice for SPL and music but if you really want to abuse a sub gotta go 4 inch.
I think sundown should step up and warranty it out. Would've never considered them till your videos... now not so sure. Would've liked to see what this could handle.
So happy I didn't buy one those subs. The zv5 has the same problem with it falling apart. I will go with the xv3 subs, they seem to be more durable and since you say they sound the same, I really wanted someone to voice their opinion on the subs.
It's not the sub in general or that it was too much power for too long-either he was clipping, the enclosure was wrong, or it was a defected sub. I'm running a scv7500 @.5 ohm per ZV6 right now, and I've ran a 7500 per sub @.3 with my ZV5s and NSV4s for years without ever having this issue. You can't let one bad sub sway your judgment, even good brands have defects here and there.
@@loganmilam4065 thanks for letting me know, don't know alot about fi subs but I've heard they are worth the money. Do they sound good in ported enclosures or more for 4th and 6th orders?
That High Pitch Bass Line In That Song Is Exsactly What Heats My Coils Up Badly. When I'm At 32-33Hz Port That Song Slams The Low Bass In That Song And You Hear The Port. When It Goes Into That High Pitch Bass Part The Subs Move Alot And You Hear The Subs Not The Port. It Moves Alot But Doesn't Really Get That Loud. I Have To EQ Those High Pitch Bass In That Song / Turn Bass Knob Down During Those Parts.
I got two of the discontinued team series. The 5000 rms a piece, I got the last two from a company. None of the ZV s can beat them. I'm even knocking off trucks with 4 - 15 ,most speakers they making now are no more than 2000rms ,.so think of my two that's 10k rms and they 12s ,and these Brazilian amps ain't ready to push them rite .I had to get a real Korean amp to get them rite
That Deaf Bonce is looking like a beast now after getting hammered on. I have a Zv5 15 @.5 on a Synergy 3.1(5k certified) for over a year now as a daily.
@@blownvoicecoil124 put money on it the deaf bonce db3512 will definitely perform far better as far as longevity goes vs the zv5. And no you can't compare the zv6 12 and the db3012 as I can almost buy 2 db3012 for the price of a zv6. Just the honest truth that that is not a 900 dollar sub price to performance wise. I had a zv5 15 on around 3k clamped that I didn't get 8 months out of it. The xv2 is a better sub than the zv5 performance and efficiency wise and that came from people who ran real world t\s specs after break in on every sub sundown had at the time. But they needed a little more power handling so they didn't go without sundown, they had 2 massive audio hippo 15s with custom cone and coil and were doing a 160 with 2 15s on under 3 20k in a huge folded horn paraflex enclosure from 28hz to like 70hz. They're good subs but sundown definitely charges far too much for the most reconed subs every year. When I started seeing post after post about their extremely overpriced salt series amps blowing up and the trash quality sfb amps that 1 out of 5 last more then a week I knew I would nev run sundown again. My soundqubed hdc3.1 15 is over 5 years old and still going in a friend's car and I abused it 10 times as bad in the 4 years I ran it. I learned sundown is just a name. I call them subdown because I constantly see people having to recone them. And please don't think I like skar, I wouldn't run anything from skar even if it was free. Complete junk company and you can get the skar evl to on alibaba for like 160 shipped as a sample sub same as the Orion hcca
JP probably laughing his ass off. Everyone makes mistakes man but next time, wire it at 2 ohms. That would leave you at twice this sub's full power, more than enough but safer than 8kW.
Prolly not he is a buisness man Jp I's prolly with Travis trying figure out how or why that coil slid that easy I pray Parker reaches out to JP and let's him help him out
@@TowGoat JP has nothing to do with any of these subs being built. He only sells sundown..... he has nothing to do with sundown other than he sells their stuff.

Poorly wound/glued coil, wasn't your fault Parker that's a factory defect that was completely missed by Sundown. Otherwise they woulda sold it in the yard sale as a defective product.
Exactly. If the coil comes unwound like that after a week with no clipping, it was just a defective coil. Sundown needs to step up and take care of a good customer that spends good money with them, and even reps their products on RU-vid to a few hundred thousand people.
@@harveyacosta9770 agreed, plus Apex woulda done a sick color powder coat too and he coulda had the sub build with Nightshade v5 Spider and 8 layer coil too
@@catch22frubert I really question D4S in general though, this spring i bought a new in the box Sundown SFB 2000D from them that fried in 6 hours playing my Xv2 10
Why does everybody think JP (the owner of D4S) own sundown. 🤣🤦♂️ Jacob Fuller owns sundown. Where he bought the sub has nothing to do with how his outcome would of been. Sundown builds this sub in house, then put to a test to make sure the sub has no weird noises. Then is boxed up and shipped out to disrupters such as D4S & audio apex. Audio apex only builds refurbished subs. But, you can get ahold of audio apex and they will hook you up for a recone for it, as they share the same warehouse as sundown. Since he put 8k watts on it, I highly doubt sundown will warranty it.
I want the 45series behind these Sundowns!! No disrespect to Sundown, ZV6 is beautiful!! Sorry it broke, my favorite version of Coca-Cola is 18-21Hz on 1 15" Machete Sport V2 on Crescendo Symphony S1 & XS D7500 @rest.
