The super glue idea that not many people know about
In this video, I did a lot of repairs using super glue and powder from ashes. Super glue is a very suitable material for repairing small plastic tools. Most people know how to fix using super glue and baking soda.

They come in packs now of 3 or 4 very small tubes. I've used this a few times only baking soda instead of ash. It's good for making weird shapes things with holes in them that have a tendency to snap off. I fixed a drawer hinge in my fridge by using a metal rod for the broken plastic pin and then layering it up with baking soda /super glue and sanding it to shape afterwards. It's best if the fix is hidden though. This trick works awesome but doesn't look awesome without a LOT of work to make it match.

Cool video but I would definitely like some explanation during the tutorial. You used the filter as well as the ash, so my takeaway is that adding superglue to anything lightweight that will soak up the superglue will give a rock hard effect. I definitely don’t know the first thing about chemical reactions
@keithnewton5508
@keithnewton5508 10 месяцев назад
CA glues (superglues) react with cellulose that is used to make cigarette filters. As for the baking soda CA mix Google says...Chemically, the bicarbonate molecules in baking soda react with cyanoacrylate to create a reactive ion that more easily bonds with other cyanoacrylate molecules. These bonds establish long, polymer chains that are stronger and more resilient than cyanoacrylate-water bonding. I think the ash also being a base does the same thing.

I learned of this back in the early 2000s. My car's radiator cracked open in the middle of my journey to another district. I had already covered 150km with 100km to reach my destination (no garage nearby). A mere local man who happening to be passing by asking what the problem was and I explaining, he simply asked me to get him super glue from a nearby shop that was just a few meters away plus some flour. I hesitated thinking he crazy (NOTE: he was also in a drunken state)... I mean, how could I trust or take him seriously. With zero ideas and no sensible/viable solutions, I reluctantly entertained his proposed idea buying a few tubes of super glue and asked one of the locals for a handful of flour. After about 50 minutes of repair and drying up, I was on my way. The fix was solid, and it held up for 4 months... and this is a car doing daily 100km plus distance.

I use some of these methods everyday. Except I work with stone. I don't smoke but most of my coworkers do. Cigarette ash added to translucent 2 part epoxy helps give a natural look when you can't add pigments. I use it in my seam colors also. Baking soda works as an activator as well but when it goes off it turns really white so I mix the ash with it. If I'm working by myself and nobody has a cigarette smoking, I will use pepper to tint my two part epoxy. This is in applications usually having to do with Dallas White granite. I have used Red and black pigment and added that to Baking soda and use that as a filler then put a coat of super glue on top to mimic the color of Garnet. I've been doing granite for 8 years now and you would be amazed of some of the fixes and things you come up with when you are in a bind, don't have the correct products, and out on a job 100 plus miles away from the shop. I've also used red clay and torched it to make powder to add to my epoxy. Also we have a spray activator for super glue. You have to be careful what spray activator you use because some of them will turn light granite green. The stone will continue to get more green until it looks like you're throwing a St. Patrick's Day parade. lol . I did test samples and set them to the side and forgot about them..... 3 months later that stone was so green....we were all amazed. That was years ago now they have an activator with different agents in their formula.. No more green stone. Lol Satellite city brand glue has an amazing product line, Including different glues with different viscosities along with NFC black label aresol activator.

For those of you complaining, there are multiple ways to get the raw materials for these things. All you have to do is look for them. Still, here's a few tips: 1) Any ash (wood ash, for example) will do for the ash part, as it's the ash's job to be carbon to chemically react and straight the cyanoacrylate, and a bit of a filler, color, and shaper. 2) I can guarantee that if you walk around with a baggie and a pair of tweezers along any sidewalk in front of, for example, a busy store, you can find many (potentially many, MANY) discarded cigarette butts to recover for the filter parts of this for free. Just... make sure to wear gloves and use the tweezers. Better safe than sorry. 3) The filter is a filler and "exoskeleton" for the glue to grab hold of and dry within, to give it a shape, rather than being a puddle. It also reacts chemically, too, like the carbon (ash), for a stronger bond. Now, as for other ways to get the ash, you could just light and burn the cigarette (outside, away from people, of course). As for the filters, you can snip those off beforehand, so they are clean (or just snip the ends off and use the tobacco for a pesticide concoction, so you'll have just the filter), or go to a smoke shop & buy the filters, themselves, which exist because some people still like to roll their own cigarettes. They're an endangered species (in more ways than one), but they do exist, and the butts can be purchased. Don't want to do that? Go buy them from eBay, or the even bigger corporafascist Amazon, or just locate the manufacturers, themselves, and order them there. No, baking soda doesn't work the same way. It speeds up the hardening of the cyanoacrylate, but doesn't form the same type of chemical bonds as the carbon does. You could, if memory serves, use a sprinkle of baking soda in with the ash to speed it up, as well as create the carbon-carbon bonds.
