THE WINCHESTERS is a Supernatural prequel series, helmed by Jensen Ackles, expected to debut in Fall 2022 on the CW. It is also, quite likely, a disaster in the making. Supernatural has always played fast and loose with continuity, but this prequel takes it to a whole other level.
UPDATE: This video was made after the full trailer was released, but BEFORE the show aired! However, I did watch the finale and had some (likely controversial) thoughts: • THE WINCHESTERS Finale...
Let me break down just how much of a mess this show looks from the trailer.
And yes, I came with receipts.
It seems very likely to me that they are going to lean heavily on technicalities for this show to keep it semi-canon. Like, oh, we don’t technically SEE John and Mary’s very first meeting on Supernatural, so theoretically, they COULD have met the way we see on The Winchesters and John/Mary could have consistently lied about it over the years to Dean for some reason.
Or this show could maybe just run for one chronological year, and then EVERYONE’S memory gets wiped right before Dean time travels to 1973.
Technicalities that don’t make actual logical sense when you think about storytelling or character motivations.
By the way, promotional materials for the show say that Mary is 19. The trailer says the show takes place in 1972. But canonically, she was born in December 1954. So if she were 19, this would take place in 1973 or 1974. They probably just got her age wrong in the marketing, because this CAN'T take place in 1973. We know Mary and John met in 1972. Plus, Dean time traveled back to 1973.

Video Notes: After I saw The Winchesters trailer, I was grumbling about it for several days. So I preempted my already-scheduled video for this week to put this together quickly. Sometimes I really like my last-minute videos, because they stem from rants, so they’re fun to make. But I also feel like they’re sloppier than the ones where I give myself a little more time.
Upcoming Videos:
-Two “failed” superhero “pilots” that have a surprising amount in common. This one is actually hard to summarize succinctly. But it’s fun.
-A Stargate rewatch video of the FIRST EPISODE of SG-1 I ever saw. It’s such a random episode. But it’s what got me.
-Sharing yet another weird thing I stumbled across on the internet. Guaranteed to make at least one person uncomfortable.
I’m also trying to work on a video for a Hallmark movie and another for a weird cartoon from the 90s. I’ve got a bunch of things in progress at the moment!
