THE SURPRISING REASONS WHY BRAZIL PREFERS THE #GRIPEN E OVER THE F-35
While the F-35 has been celebrated as a cutting-edge aircraft, Brazil's decision was driven by several surprising reasons that highlight the country's unique requirements and strategic considerations. U.S. doesn't quite treat Brazil as a partner, so Brazil found a partner in Sweden. Brazil already makes civilian and military jets. It doesn't make sense to acquire jets from a country not willing to participate in tech transfer. It was an easy decision!

That is a very interesting side to the argument, as Boeing and the US Congress agreed with the F/A-18 having it's technology transfered to Embraer, if my memory serves me right. Thus making it extremely attractive. The real kicker of the deal was SAAB giving Embraer freedom in the design of the E/F variants, as well as the construction of the Brazilian Gripens would be done in Brazil, something Boeing couldn't match. Brazil managed to extract a deal with Sweden for both technological aspects, as well as for indigenous fighter jet construction. Again, further corroborating your point that Brazil wasn't merely looking for a good Fighter, but also for someone who would aid in our Technological development. Italy was the first one, with the AMX, and now Sweden with the F-39.

I'm assuming the discussion is about the discussion in Brazil about the possibility of new air fighter acquisitions. The thing is: U.S. government never offered F-35 to Brazil and they will never will. Period!
@AndreCarneiro666
@AndreCarneiro666 4 дня назад
Brazil is considering(not officially), the possibility to acquire second-hand F-16 air fighter in order to fill a gap of air fighters which I consider a waste of money! We don't need this now. Why? Because we paid for tech transfer together with Gripen acquisition so, we can build aircrafts by our own. Military are strippers like! You should give money and never touch them.

A major factor for buying US-made fighter jets is political. The buying government expects all kind of weapon supply in case of a future conflict with an aggressive neighbor. This is often the case for Eastern Europen countries. However, Brazil does have a more complex relationship with the USA. The cost-effectiveness, the ability to being partner in the Gripen development, and the collaboration to strengthen the indigenous capability were central factors. The platform is modern, lethal, and very flexible. An excellent choice Brazil, Cheers.

The F-35 advantages is all about the stealth technology for BVR combat. This is certainly better than Gripen. However, for Brazil necessities and available budget, Gripen is the best choice. My thoughts about it is we need a minimal of heavy air fighters with a large carriage capacity for missle and bombs even in less amount. If they ask me about, the main choice for me would be Dassault Rafalle or F-15 EX if it's possible. I don't like F-35 project. It still has many problems and it's not reliable enough. The availability ratio it's around 35% which is embarrassing considering a $1 trillion dollar project with a operational cost similar or higher(not sure) to F-22

I'm no pilot. But it doesn't take one to see that cost to performance it's gripen all the way. And really, unless your an empire, you don't need the expensive f35. Also, if you go f35, you need specialised revised maintenance facilities. Gripen can be serviced on a highway. No brainer. Wished Canada had gone gripen.

"Substantial tech transfer", lol. The SAAB agreement is 100% (FULL) tech transfer + local production + freedom to sell your local production to anyone you desire. Imagine buying F35s with none of that, higher running costs AND still having the negative of only flying IF the USA feels like sending you the daily codes for startup. Brazil did the right thing and got themselves a jump in tech with a very capable machine that they can derive other techs from, while not turning their AF into an US hostage.

This is utter frog shit. There's no evidence to suggest that the F-35 was ever seriously considered. The competitive tender process for the fighter program was initiated in the early 2000s (first attempt initiated in 2001)and a final decision was made by Dilma in 2013. The tendered aircraft at that time were the F/A-18, the Rafale and the Gripen. The F-35 wasn't even in full operational service at the time the winner was announced. Seriously folks, Chat GPT is not your friend.

E has a fairly low radar cross section, not enough to call it stealth but stealth isn't everything and that's the whole selling point for F-35, E is just as sensor fused - without a doubt the best non-stealth multirole fighter atm. I do respect the F-35, but many countries prefer more flighthours than stealth capabilities.. I think they would complement each other very well in an airforce.
@dirreeN

@@FXGreggan. This and stealth is mostly valuable if you're attacking, Gripen is built to defend and not so much to attack even tho it can! 👍

It depends, as in most cases. If you operate from highways or from airfields. Access to and support staff. Cost of operation. Integration with most weapon systems. Based on a requirements specification defined by any user (country), the "best" fighter will be different.
