In today's video we look at something you should probably never import because the MR2 Spyder is already here, but if you must, the Suzuki Cappuccino can be yours for the small price of more than an NA NB or NC Miata, any of them.
Lmao, I used to be that guy, when I was like 14-15, then I actually did it, with an F20C swapped Integra, and I plan on doing a Hayabusa swapped Suzuki Carry, sometime :)
I think the Kei car trifecta of the AZ-1, Cappuchino and the Beat are just really cool cars and part of a specific era of cars. They are just pretty cool. but yeah in america it's hard to justify owning one since they can barely make highway speed and you'll get blasted if you so much as look at a cuck truck on the road. If I lived in a rural town and just drove into town occasionally I'd fuck with it. But It's a hyper specific car for a hyper specific use in a country that's streets and highways are completely different from ours.
Kei cars were a cool novelty. Then crypturds with man-buns started bidding up the nice ones on BAT to post on r/jdm. Importers tried to ride that wave and bought every kei car they could without realizing that there’s a limited number of rich dorks willing to buy a golf cart with a license plate; so now there’s a surplus of them floating around stateside which everyone wants too much money for because they lost their ass trying to speculate.
@@AK-lw2jw Drive one and you will eat your words. They are the most fun cars I've ever driven. It's the exact kind of fun driving a go kart was as a kid, but as an adult and you actually get to go places with it.
@@anydaynow01Unless the 2J finally pops I don't see a reason to even touch the engine in these cars. Currently 238k in on mine (we've made it to the moon!) Now it's time to "make it back to Earth." 💜
@@noname1210hh it's mostly people who buy they, find out they're slow, and are trying to get their money back. I'm used to double-digit 0-60s, so 9 seconds is insane for me.
You can definitely get one imported from Japan for like $8k in great condition. Most US-based importers buy trash from auction that has horrendous mechanical faults they try to cover up. Anyone that tells you to buy from auction is a retard, they're the cars that wouldn't pass inspection and cost too much to fix to be worth it. Be smart and buy one traded into a dealership and has current inspection, you will save a ton in the long run.
believe it or not the amistad charms predate the Blitz 03... you could honestly consider every wheel that looks like these amistads reps (incl. 03s) , the charms are the OG wheel
Honestly cappuccino's are not that slow. I haven't driven one, but I drove an autozam az1 and a beat. The turbo makes a lot of difference, trust me. The beat was super slow, worse than a bus, but the az1 felt like a rocket! I was doing 30 mph and it felt like 50 mph. Since the cappuccino has the same engine as the az1, I bet it has a decent acceleration, at least enough to keep with traffic and have fun.
ea11r is faster stock for stock then an mx5 na lol and you can make an easy 70 hp with just an evc system ive had both and 6 kei trucks they are super fun cars. nobody mods them with the idea of speed only fun. if you wanna go fast you lost the point kei cars are fun cute and get alot of attention just enjoy it.
According to Suzuki you can do a 0-60 in under 9 seconds with the Cappuccino.... With higher performance tires that is, but that's quite good for it's amount of power. Being light does make a difference in acceleration when combined with the turbo torque. The kei version Caterham which is powered by a Suzuki 660cc makes around 80hp and can go even faster to 60 at 6-7 seconds range, so with a bit more power the Cappuccino can probably do the same.
@@jacksonclark9826 Oh I didn't know they were faster than some miatas with some mods lol. Also on Best Motoring there was a cappucinno and I think it made 120hp. That's wicked!
@@PlatinumNath The thing to keep in mind is that 0-45 mph the turbo keis are actually much faster than their 0-60 would indicate. You will gap out regular traffic up to about 45 mph and only then will they reel you back in. It's great because it's fun you can enjoy on the street without going to jail. Cops generally only look out for speeding, they almost never ticket for accelerating too fast unless you're spinning tires, which, well, good luck in a kei car.
Slow car fast is one of the most thrilling things. I used to drive an old "new" beetle with a turbo slapped on it and that thing felt like a race car even if you only went the speed limit.
I have a Miata but since I went to Japan and saw Cappuccinos IRL I cannot get over them. Driving my 95 Miata beside a Cappuccino made my Miata feel like a 350z. I would LS swap a Cappuccino in a heartbeat. Slow car fast becomes slow car fear.
I saw that initial D episode with the cappu and have wanted one so badly ever since. They're so damn light but they definitely are underpowered.... And only RHD. rare opinion but screw RHD
I live japan, and everyone ive seen that buys a capp usually ends up selling them. They’re tight to sit in and have some mechanical issues that many dont talk about. Just stick with a miata.
RHD is easy, git gud. It's also fun to confuse normies why there is only one person in the car and they're on the right side. American cars were RHD to start and they only changed it to make it safer for passengers to get out.
Cappuccinos in stock form have a 0 to 60 mph time of 8.4 seconds. If the speed limiter is disconnected they will comfortably drive over 100 mph. There were 1110 cars sold in Europe, all were sold in the UK and were rhd, the same as in Japan (they were never made in a lhd version). They don't suffer from mechanical problems but are extremely prone to rust in colder climates. As a result there are only about 200 left on UK roads.
Someone in my town has an imported Cappuccino, I see it parked around town every so often. Standing next to it in real life really put in ro perspective how tiny these cars are
In defense of that opening comment on "130 horsepower 2 seater," the Cappuccino and other similar kei cars are light bois. A Cappuccino has a quarter less curb weight than the NA Miata, for example.
Yeah man someone needs to come out with a turbo liter bike swap for them, the 14k rpm sounds coming from it with a decent custom ration 6 speed h shift would be outrageous, talk about a fun car!
@@anydaynow01 I've thought about, for my future company idea, doing kits like that, for Beats, Cappus, Autozams, ect other kei vehicles, get more power, even if it isn't too significant of an increase, like a d series in a beat, or a busa cappu/zam :))
Need an Alto Works. I live 10 miles outside a rural town. Got a windy 60mph road all the way there, so an Alto Works would be my perdect grocery getter companion to my Crosstrek and F150.
I feel attacked..... I love my little kei cars that's why I've had 10 of these tinny bundles of joy and smiles..... if you want me to id love to come on the discord and talk about them. I've roundtripped them around the world and cross country over 5,000km. either way I enjoy your content. :')))
I just saw that Matrix for sale - it’s an hour away from where I live. $3800 is too much for the mileage especially from the guy selling it - he’s a bit shady. I paid 5k for my wife’s Vibe with 60k miles during the pandemic market.
Like a horny female song bird I hear the call of NetGear pining for an XRS Matrix. My second owner daily of 4 years needed all mount bushings replaced, I didn't know that and now I have JB Weld filling the trans-fluid spilling hole where the rear mount used to be. No more 6th, 3rd needs affection before she puts out, reverse isn't home half the time. When it's good, it's amazing fun. Can't get enough of the sound coming from a lumpy fat hatchback. But even if it was all perfect, it would still desperately need an LSD. Also that little cover for the switches on the door popped off of mine too. Common issue, classic Corolla.
I bought an alto instead of any of the normal Kei offerings because where else are you going to find a 3 door AWD hatchback that weighs 1550 lbs? The thing that beat/cappuccino owners don't experience is the absolute HELL that comes with getting parts. Also you can just swap out the ECU for the n1 ECU and they won't be restricted to 63 hp anymore. Or you can do what I did and get a N2 ECU and a bigger turbo and it'll make over 100hp with no issues. There are some psychopaths making 180-200 on stock internals on their F6A DOHC engines. Can't got too high on the alto or the gearbox starts to become a major weak point.
F6a is a different beast and the best one imo. Ive owned a EN07, E07A, and F6A and the F6A is easily the best of all 3 no question. you cant turbo the other 2 without risking damage. only way to turbo a E07A is to get a E07Z-T XD E07A will just fall apart if you push to much on it. and is in a horrible location on the beat since its tilted in a way the turbo fills with oil. not to mention the E07A has like no support even in Japan the E07Z/E07Z-T rules supreme aftermarket wise. Alto is fine but I prefer my EA11R also don't do that on the K6A btw. its made of lighter metals and cant make 100 hp without swaping stuff off the F6A on it anyway. Long story short your F6A isn't anything like other Kei engines of that era sadly lol.
@@jacksonclark9826 Yeah it's really a shame that suzuki went to aluminum after the f6a. The iron block f6a dohc was PEAK crackhead suzuki design. "if you promise to not drive this on the street *wink*, here is a bolt on kit to make it have almost double the horsepower"
I got my AZ-1s F6A with some custom parts, to about 140-160+hp yeah, it's like a lotus elise (which I've driven once, buddy has one) but smaller and faster, lmao, I plan on going for the 250 area, without doing a swap, cause if I did a hayabusa or a 13b rotary swap I'd go for at least 500+, and I'd prolly die that way, lol :0
@@cubiclelemur Honestly with how small that engine bay is in the AZ-1, not having to do any heavy modifications, no custom transmission, not having to deal with no reverse on the hayabusa, and not having to deal with the heat with the rotary, the stock engine is really the best option. I hate the constant "hayabusa swap" talk, the f6a dohc is a great engine. I really wish the az-1 was cheaper, such a cool little car, but having the extra space in the alto is really handy.
@@SUPER_HELPFUL exactly, I love the F6A, it's one of the best sounding engines of all time, at least top 5 next to like the LF-As 1LR-GUE, or something crazy like that with the way it revs 8-9k+
@@jacksonclark9826 Well, for one, most turbo Suzukis had an F6A or K6A (which I think was a tiny bit more powerful), which is quite a bit of the ones you'd actually want (AZ-1 was more Suzuki than Mazda mechanically). Even still, other turbo keis of the era also broke the advertised 64hp. It doesn't sound like much to be 80 or so crank hp, but when your car weighs 1600 lbs it suddenly isn't so bad. Not modern sports car fast, but it would've kept up with sport compacts of the late 90's/early 00's on a tight track and left them on winding roads with no straights.
@@nunyabusiness896 well stock the K6A is better since its lighter and makes the same power but the F6A is more tune able since its iron and not aluminum
@@jacksonclark9826 K6A is also rated with more torque from the factory and since they underrate all turbo keis to 64 HP it likely makes more stock HP as well.
Nowadays a 600 does, my Honda 1000 from 1984 got around 120, lmao, but my 2001 busa had 200 stock, now with forged block, pistons, connecting rods, a turbo and an e85 conversion, at least 300-320 :))
If you buy a kei car to go drag racing, you have completely lost the plot. These are mountain road and canyon cars, period. When you can stay in your lane and actually run a racing line because you have so much room, it's a completely other level than typical larger cars. On sticky tires these keis will dust anything through the corners because they don't weigh anything and usually have super low CGs. The 0-60s are also misleading because these rocket off the line from their light weight, but then peter off at highway speeds, so you get the benefit of a fun launch up to about 45 mph and then it keeps you from getting speeding tickets. Usable fun in the real world IMO vs. some 500hp+ car that is still spinning at 75 mph. They're also like driving an arcade machine down the road: they make all the sounds of some 1000hp Skyline because there's very little sound insulation so you hear every turbo spool, blow off, etc. and the gearing is tight so you're always engaged and working the shifter. They're also super mechanical and analog so you are very aware and in control, it's about as far opposite as you can get from a self-driving Tesla isolation box. The turbo ones absolutely will do highway speeds just fine and will cruise at 75 mph without stressing the engine. If you keep speeds closer to about 50, they can get up to about 40 mpg and even when driven hard it'll still be in the mid 30's. They're very simple and easy to work on, too, the only caveat being having to ship parts from Japan, but it's really not that bad if you keep an eye on things and plan in advance and make sure to buy a nice one to start with. Basically, you get a kei sports car because you want something you can drive the snot out of and not go to jail for it, try that in an actual fast car and you'll have to explain to a judge why you were doing 170 in a 55. Fast cars are just blueballing on the street or you go to jail or die, there's not much in-between. You'll never understand until you try it, but once you do you'll put your drag car up for sale and never look back. Well, at least if you have winding roads where you live, I imagine it would get old fast if everything is arrow straight and people keep trying to drag race you at every light. Oh, and it's not as cramped as people think. An NA Miata is roughly the same experience fitment wise, and with some seat foam adjustments, steering wheel spacers, etc. you can drive the sports keis up to like 6'2" (taller with the roof down) and more upright ones like an Alto Works could probably get a 7 footer behind the wheel if the proportions were right. Fat people will probably struggle in the sports keis, though.
Ypu thought process is acceptable. For the Sentra id as a person with your same thought process ld rather have a simple Rick car over the bull shit I have to hook up to in order to reprogram your TCM. People are stupid accept it.
Man Yall had to throw Jack under the bus. What ever happened to him and Chris. Make some videos talking that ish maybe about RU-vidr friend fall outs. Yall seem to be in the know. Ill take my 3% in revenue.
Nobody seems to know what corners are in the car world anymore. I mean, you guys are still drag racing in the year of our lord 2023 when some software dork in a Tesla Plaid is going to show up and beat everyone on autopilot? A kei car would destroy a pigfat Tesla on a winding road.
