I admire your work and your artistry so much. Guys like you are what inspired me to start learning and incorporating metal work into my furniture making.
Awesome build once again Scott. Your builds always inspire and put a smile on my dial, have to get up to Townsville sometime and catch up for a beer. Can't wait for the next project.
Scott, this is so incredibly inspiring. I loved watching your hollow leg metal table build and thought how creative that was. And this chair takes your creativity to an even higher level. I got chills watching you incorporate full sized CAD (chalk aided design) to pull it all together. You are a true artist and I appreciate all the effort to record, edit and share your passion with us. Thank you! Joel.....
I can't believe I hadn't found your channel until today. Awesome work man and it's all my favorite style "industrial" . You've gained another subscriber.
Scott I have just subscribed. This chair has one of those rare quality's about it where everything is just right, style comfort beauty originality, and that special something that can only come from been handmade.Well done.
Hey Rusty Nuts! Thank you so much! I do get a bit intense with some of my builds, I have to achieve a certain look, kind of hard to describe though when I'm finished I get a sense of relief and satisfaction. Not everything I build turns out nice, I've made plenty of crap things too ;). Thanks again Rusty Nuts (love that name).
Thank You Fifi!! I appreciate your kind words and I am glad you get some inspiration from my work. Have a very Merry Christmas too Fifi, see you next time.
Thank You Devin!! The more I look at it without any upholstery, the more the wood grows on me. I think I can do some variations to my design. Thanks again!
it is such a beautiful design. It defiantly is not getting blown away in any storm. The only issue with your videos, is that I wish there were more. LOL you do a great job with the content, and edit. Keep them coming Derek
Mate, you are one seriously talented man with a welder & grinder. Impressed does not cut the mustard as a description. Very nice work. Love the shirt too. Good to see another Aussie rockin' the sway swag.
Hey Tim, cheers. You are right, when it is all done it is very rewarding, though when you first have the idea and start the work you are thinking gosh what have I started here.
Hi Paul, I agree! I started this with the name in mind and during the build thought I had got it wrong in terms of materials considering what Tim stands up for. So I'll build the full "Sway" version after I've finished picking out all the metal splinters from my fingers. Cheers!
Hey Scott! That is a great design. I am fond of wood and metal brought together and your interpretation of those two materials into an excellent design is impressive. Keep that creative momentum going! ~~Jim "Mr. Measure Twice" Marchetti 'A day without sawdust (and metal shavings!) is like a day without... um,air to breathe!'
Thank You Jim, great comment and much appreciated. I love wood and I love steel and I am lucky enough to be able to create so all going well, lots more to come. Cheers and all the best!
You really don't go easy on your projects. I had to laugh at how you were forcing and hammering this fucker together. Very beautiful outcome and design!
This is my first comment ever on a video Just to say this is an absolutely beautiful chair. I wish I had the money to afford one or better still the skills to make one! You are an inspiration to people like me who are just starting out making things. I'm off now to look at your other stuff and find more about Tim Sway. Many Thanks for posting this. Lee :o)
Hi Lee, I'm really glad that I can be of some help. Your comment is heart warming, thank you, and thanks for dropping by. Tim Sway is a walking, talking inspiration that the world needs more of ;) All the best.
Truth be told, when I started this thing, making it out of flat bar I was very enthusiastic, especially when it started to take shape, then I had to make 3 other sides and then skin them and then the job made me its bitch. Man I spent hours on the bandsaw, grinder and welder, but now that it is done I'm so glad I did it. Thanks ZH Fabrications, I always look forward to seeing your builds!
Freaking boat load of work and beauty, my friend! Typical, I learned quite a bit from you. And you are right, that chair should not be named after me - it requires far too much patience and skill. BTW, how much to ship it to the US?? I have some chair ideas on the whiteboard, I may just have to name one after you :)
G'day Tim, unfortunately it fell short of the mark in the reclaimed department, hence Prototype of the ""Sway", so that gives me an opportunity and challenge to build another that I think you would approve of (more so). Although not reclaimed, this sucker should last and last so I'm happy about that. Whilst I enjoyed the journey of the build, the "Sway" concept forced me to think about all the waste we create in our modern lives........and I am still in that space and that's in large part due to the work that you do my friend. Gosh sending this fester to the States, I'm not sure but I'd love for you to have it. Be good, enjoy the moment!
Hi, I'd like to suggest you get a plasma cup attachment that holds the tip of the torch away from the metal. It keeps your arc always the same distance from the surface, and your cuts become much neater, less slag. Very nice design. Regards, Ken
Beautiful chair! Have you considered getting some of the big pieces of steel laser cut? My local laser shop often ends up remarkably affordable considering they buy steel by the train car load. With Autocad you can design in all sorts of locating tabs and other detail work to make the whole job easier and almost no grinding. Still your design and fabrication, just less bull work.
Hi John, yes have definitely considered laser, though at this stage I go the hard way to get the concept out. And you are right I probably need to get into Autocad to make things more repeatable. Thanks John.
Hi Malene, super glad you liked it and thanks for watching! Music is always an issue as I have lots of songs playing in the background which I cannot play for more than a few seconds in the video, so I have to find some thing else. Thanks again!
G'day there Bill. Thanks my friend!! The Sway will look like that, but will have nail holes, staines, old ripped jeans etc, may even have a guitar in it some how. ;) always good to here from you Bill!
That's a beautiful piece of work! I'd like to see it with just the wood. When you do upholster it, use bandanas in honor of Tim. How long did you work on that?
Hi Paul, thanks! I'll do a wood version for sure. The wood version will better reflect Tim Sway ;). Took me I'd say 12 days of week end work, inclusive of sleep ins, the odd beer and long lunches. Cheers!
Scott Turner I should've said I'd like to see it with a finished wooden seating area but honestly, there's a lot of potential for design variation because it has good bones.
muito bom ! gostei muito essa simples cadeira de aço e mateira mas muito bem trabalhada ! você scott turner é um artesão de mãos cheia abraço forte amigo parabéns ! ( sehr gut)
That's a really sexy chair! And yes, Tim is touching people all around the world. Stylish t shirt too, I've got one here in England. Thanks for sharing this video, cheers mate.
Thank You for the inspiration! I wish I was your neighbor and you could teach me some welding. I am somewhat of a self taught maker and I have the scars to prove it. I am just not brave enough to try and teach myself to weld steel or aluminum as of yet. I don't like the idea of setting my balls on fire while trying to stick two pieces of metal together. Thanks again!
First tip, don't put your balls between the welder and the steel and they should be happy (remember that one, it's important). Great comment Vigil Ante and funny!!
Yeah, thanks for that tip. But seriously, your work is very inspirational to me. We have similar methods when it comes to bringing a design to reality. I have been doing a lot of woodworking lately, but I really want to start working with metals. After my hand heals from my Drill press and Forstner bit mishap, I am going to try some welding. I've got my asbestos jockstrap ready........Thanks again, keep making stuff and putting all of it on the tubes. I really appreciate it!
Good question. My opinion is if you want to weld and do it often go Mig. Mig may be a little tricky setting up wire speeds and current settings etc though I find it very easy to use once you have learned the basics. There is nothing wrong with stick either, it's just a matter of spending the time on mastering your skills for both machines what ever you choose. I hope that answer helps, just cover up when you weld, the heat and light burns.
Mario da Roma: ciao, con la sedia ti sei superato hai realizzato un design futuristico che resterà x sempre di attualità tra un centinaio di anni avrà un valore inestimabile. In poche parole andrebbe collocata in un museo d'arte. Grande ciao.
The chair is awesome Scott , you should work with LEGO and develop a 1 million piece chair kit ? But when you open the box , only one big piece falls out and you have to cut the pieces out as you need them ..hahaha
wow that is a work of art Scott well done :) may I ask what sort of bandsaw you're using- I noticed that it's a hafco but which model is it? Hope you're going well and please keep up the good work :)
Cheers Ted, the chair turned out well but I am looking forward to doing it again out of pallet wood. Should be interesting. I just recently bought the band saw. It is a Hafco BP-360 and will allow me to do a lot more than my little old band saw which is now retired in my shed. I'm going well, keeping busy, hope you are too, thanks Ted.
Oops of course sorry, BS-5S. It is the swivel version, it's pretty good for the handy man and lots quieter than the drop saw. Have a good week end Ted.
Cool, from Holland! Thank You also for your comment, much appreciated. I only work on week ends so from memory about 3 - 4 week ends, that's with sleep ins and big coffee breaks etc ;)
Thanks for your fast reply! Everybody needs some cafine boost once and a while :) Where did you learned your metal working skills? Got to collect subs from all aroundthe globe right? ;)
Nice, do you also sell the things you build? Bought a tig welder a year ago, but with two small Kids its hard to make some welding time :) I did learned the basics for the most part by now, but i can definitly improve myself. Guess its a good challange for 2017 :) Good luck, and i will keep an eye on your channel!
Thanks, another build is happening now, video should be in about two weeks, maybe less. I understand, kids take priority, you never get that time back so enjoy your children while they are little is my advice. I have 3 awesome kids, 18, 15 and 11, they keep me on my toes! Yes the plan is to sell unique Industrial Furnishings and Art under Forme Industrious. Just building some courage first and organising my self. Nothing wrong with getting some practice on a project or two. Take care and I'll catch you next time!
I just listened to reclaimed audio and the boys mentioned your chair so i had to come see it :). im making a industrial barcart/kitchen island currently. im editing a vanity build as we speak eheh. are you on instagram scott?
