Great episode, but I just have to chuckle at the opening. Darren Brown breaks into house @3am: *whispering* "Hi, you volunteered for my show. Sign this waiver/contract"
If I ever rob a house, which I will never do, but if I did I'd use that psychology trick of bringing a camera crew and handing the home owner a piece of paper to sign.
It's a bit more clever. He repeatedly uses the imagery of three, mentions that the three "cogs" will be "going round" (wheels are round, they go 'round) in his mind, he asks him to imagine himself at age 6 and write his word on the blackboard "big" ("tricycle" is kind of a "big"/long word.) This might've been a partial success, but I can't stop watching this guy. He's the most fascinating mentalist/illusionist I've ever seen.
I think when it comes to Derren's shows, the actual point of hypnosis is often only a small part of the overall thing. I'm guessing he oftentimes has up to multiple hours of set up that are essentially a part of the process of hypnosis, and the point of hypnosis we see in the show is just "the prestige"
Was going to make this comment, immediately thought it very strange, made me feel sick and happy I'm single again, hopefully Joe is not her bf cos it seems he's getting played big time
The thing that has always amused me is that the trick or treat cards are all the same, the word just appears differently depending on a 180 degree rotation. Darren can usually pick the direction he wants to go just by rotating the card when he shows it to people. (The editing in this episode seems to suggest he was consistent with what he showed the poor guy, but I’ve seen other episodes where he makes an extra effort to rotate it more than necessary when showing the card.) Tricks indeed 🪄
