Everybody who sang in this group was SOLID GOLD! KUDOS to Damon he sounded just like Eddie. They were all great singers, great performers and easy on the eyes.
Eddie and Damon shook hands and so did David and Dennis so with that being said if they approved of them replacing them why can’t I ❤️❤️❤️I love this lineup ‼️
THEY MAY BE THE BEST VOCAL BAND I'VE EVER SEEN, THE FACT THAT THEY CAN DO THOSE ROUTINES FLAWLESSY AND SING PERFECT HARMONIES IS AMAZING TO ME. I SANG IN A VOCAL GROUP FOR A FEW YEARS AND WE COULD REALLY SING BUT WHEN IT CAME TO SINGING AND DOING CHOREOGRAPHED STEPS AT THE SAME TIME......, MANNNNNNNNNN THAT WAS THE HARDEST THING I'VE EVER DONE. SO I GIVE CREDIT WERE CREDIT IS DO. THESE GUYS ARE AMAZING.
No one person is bigger than the Group. They group as a whole is about precision and not just in moves but harmonizing. I am a true Temptation fan and I am blessed to still have them singing today.
Richard was s great professional singer. He didn't have the unique sounding voice of Eddie, Paul, David, Dennis, or Ollie, but he was definitely a pro who deserves our respect.
Richard was an original Distant and with his group the Monitors, filled in for Paul behind the curtain. You gotta sang to be in any versiln of Temptations.
Yea but at least he got a LOT more shine then Paul, Paul Williams is basically the only Temp that got less lead vocals than his replacements everybody from Richard street to the current baritone they have Terry weeks got WAY more leads then Paul… is top lead are basically “I want a love I can see “ , “mother of mine” and “don’t look back” everything else was all background and one or two liners. Hell even Melvin beats out is replacements with one or two rare leads one I know for sure is “ole man river” Melvin lead that song 🤣
Richard Street was definitely Eye Candy and those dimples were to die for. He Sang the hell out of “Hey Girl” “ First Time I Ever Saw Your Face” and “Heavenly”. He and Damon Harris were Bad!!
It’s hard to find a lead singer that fit the sound of the Twmps but some how Otis has found a way to do so.. But these guys here and before them will never be replaced in sound.. Richard Street had a voice that was smooth and flawless those songs just come alive.. And that background is just angelic like makes you wonder what the audience felt.. Richards didn’t get enough credit for his contribution to the group.. He’s legendary. LB February 2022
Dennis Edwards can play the piano, keyboards and other instruments. Also, before joining the Temptations, when he was singing solo, he wrote his own songs and played his own music. He is multi-talented.
The Grammy-Award winning "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" lineup of Hall of Fame Legend Dennis Edwards, Superlative first tenor of Damon Harris, the Personality Man Richard "Soul" Street , the last surviving orignal Otis Williams & the Earth -deep Melvin Franklin. Each member brings their own quality & style to The Temptations. Damon Harris previously sang lead with The Young Vandals, & Impact while in Philly, Richard Street was lead singer with Motown group The Monitors & Dennis with The Contours.
can we just talk about dennis edwards voice is mixture of david and paul so freaking incredible the temptations greatest singing group of all time dennis edwards one of the best singers of all time
This was definitely an unseen treat, just when you think you saw all the Temptations videos, another one pops up, thats what i love about the Tempts, YOU CAN'T PUT THEM IN A BOX! Temptations forever!
In My Opinion The Late Otis "Damon" Harris Was The Closest You Could Get To The Original Voice The Late Eddie Kendricks Extraordinary Voices!!! #1 Eddie Kendricks #1A Damon Harris!!!
He was not the best, just the only one chosen. Stylistics, Chi-Lites and groups like that had better falsettos than that. Larry Graham has a better Falsetto.
EDDIE KENRICKS SPENT THE WEEKEND AT MY HOUSE IN 1980 WITH A MAN BY THE NAME OF LEE HOLMES HE WORKED FOR MUHAMMAD ALI. EDDIE WAS SO GORGEOUS. BACK IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS. FABULOUS
Too cute when Damon says "little ole me" right after he's introduced. But how bout they murder " the first time ever I saw your face." Especially Richard Dammm!!!!!
Profiles in Pittsburgh Thanks for Sharing this Fabulous Songs, from Temptations Live in Paris. Love Their Dancing, Their Sharp Black Outfits, They made me feel Real Special. Thanks Otis Williams for loving All Us Ladies!!!😗😚🤗
I can't help gettn' melancholy whenever I play this groups greatest hits. I was four years old when I was introduced to The Temptations via my parents. I remember my momma singing "My Girl" as a lullaby to my younger sister...thats a long time ago but only if you count in term of years. RIP Temptations no longer with us.🥲✌️
Well guys I was born and raise in Detroit, no everything about Motown, We all have our favorites, but you can not say that David was the best lead. Before David join the tempts Paul the was Lead singer along with Eddie James Kendricks, and every member in the original group could sang lead my brothers. My favorite was Eddie greatest ever god bless.
I love this video, Downloaded the first song from Itunes after I heard it. Also love seeing closeup's of Dennis' beautiful face, even his sweat looks good! Thanks for posting.
@gunsmoke2015 The Tempts did write a few of their early songs before Smokey became their producer. They also wrote and produced their 1975 album The Temptations Do The Temptations. In 1984 Otis Williams and Ali-Ollie Woodson who was lead singer at the time co-wrote their classic Treat Her Like A Lady which hit # 2 R&B and # 48 Pop
Otis Williams, can't escape the contribution of Otis"Damon" Harris. It cemented in the group history although Williams gives flipping excuses as to why he was released.
I love this song No More cloudy days. But most of all how The Temptations can stand and one space and strut themselves to the song. That what makes them so amazing dancing singing and their outfits are just special for all of us ladies to look at. Thank you Dr Otis Williams again for such amazing men beside you in this video. Merry Christmas 2022. Love you forever sister Nora Parker
David Ruffins basically was a ladies man with his voice, Dennis was a Man's Man, you're all comparing Apples to Oranges can we just say that the Temps were one of THE greatest acts EVER to come from Motown. Ali was in his own class wonderful voice what better compliment you can give a vocalist I don't know.
Damon had one of the smoothest and strongest(falsetto) tenor voices i've ever heard.Richard Street brought his own great style to the" Temptations".Otis need to sit his ass down!!! Otis was the reason for the departure of some of the greatest talent from the" Temptations"Eddie Levert of the" Ojays"once said Why is it that the one who can't sing(no talent) in the group always want to be the leader of the group? .
Richard was Traveling and singing back stage with the Temptations while Paul was going through his struggles when he passed Richard became his replacement.
To me Damon is to Eddie like Kobe is To Jordan! Just as much talent but because Eddie did it first it know way he can be in front of Eddie! If Damon was in the group and Eddie was the replacement I think peoples opinions was sway a little! Just my opinion! @Lawplanet12 you make a great point!
malik long Damon and Dennis were my favorites. I love their voices was extraordinary!! Melvin was my all time favorite bass vocal. And that man enjoyed himself when he danced. Sad to think that all if my favorite Temps are now passed on RIP Melvin, Damon, and just today, Dennis. Legacy lives 4ever.
The great Dennis Edwards, David Ruffin, and Ollie Ali Woodson as lead singers (and Damon you’re sounding great bro RIP). Nobody like them! And Otis lived through them all? Wow!
The best one (replacement for Eddie was Damon) in my opinion. And OMG Glenn Carl Leonard was a strong second......who can beat his redention of Silent Night-----superb my man-----nobody else comes close....Glenn you put your stamp on that brother.......and Damon you did on Love Woke Me Up ......and also Papa Was A Rolling Stone and so many others!
Truly the Granddaddy of all soul vocal groups. Nothing in this life will ever matter, unless it is about loving God and Loving the people he made-Francis Chan.
Please post the other 2 parts to The Temptations Live Paris 1973. I can not get enough of looking at the face of one the finest men I have ever seen--Dennis Edwards.
A beautiful voice is indeed a musical instrument. And these guys have that! People who claim they are not true singers because they don't write or play instruments must feel the same way about Pavorotti, Ella, Leontyne Price, Sinatra, just to name a few.
I love Dennis singing not too loud but in harmony with the group which makes this a truly magnificent video. All of them in sync with one another. Thanks again for this video and all of them singing at this special for Mike. Wow what amazing performance for us Temptation and fans around the world. Sister forever Nora Parker
Mr. Harris was the best replacement for Mr. Kendrick. The quality of his voice matched Mr Kendrick's perfectly. The best two replacement for Mr Ruffin were Dennis and Ali, who had some sick pipes.
Just as good as their rare 'Temptations in Japan" album, featuring the same line-up, which was just as good as "The Temptations Live!" (featuring the classic line-up) and "Live at London's Talk Of The Town" (featuring Dennis, Eddie, Paul, Otis & Melvin) - the best recording live albums the Temptations did (along with "The Temptations Live in Concert" (at Harrah's) DVD with Dennis Edwards, Richard Street, Ron Tyson, Melvin Franklin and Otis Williams.) There is a post of this entire concert on RU-vid as well.
Great video. Is this available on DVD? Damon was awesome. IMO he is the only falsetto/first tenor of all the Temps, past and present, who sounded like Eddie Kendricks.
@penmastertoch The Temptations were perfectionists: They looked better than any group out there; they sang and danced better; their stage presence was unrivaled; their harmonies were unrivaled and no group has as many hit records. Berry Gordy had a formula for his artists, which explains why the Tempts never wrote songs for themselves, however, it proved to be a winning formula because it allowed the artists to focus on the vocals and stage presentation. No group will ever compare 2 the Tempts
There's a lot of irony.....and truth in your comment. Otis, as the "official" leader of the group, personally selected the same talent he later dismissed. Otis actually could sing a taste (I Ain't Got Nothing), he simply chose to stay in the background and let the more talented vocalists take the lead. Within the past 2 weeks, we've lost Damon Harris & Richard Street....a tough lost to me personally, (this is my favorite Temptations line-up)....and a GREAT loss to the entire Temptations family.
