One of the greatest singers in The Temptations long history, sadly only occasionally featured as lead vocalist. Due to ill health and personal problems he left The Tempts in 1971. To give him support the group kept him on the payroll as an advisor and choreographer. He died at the tragically young age of 34 in August 1973.

Yeah I can see he is in pain… same with T-Boz from TLC. I was watching her performance and I told my family she looks like she is in pain and sure enough after that performance she went to the ER with complications of sickle cell

@@bernadettehudson3346 He was The Temptations early lead; he and Eddie Kendricks hailed from Birmingham, Alabama. "Meet The Temptations" (1963) features Paul Williams on lead. He also was the group's first choreographer. When they acquired David Ruffin in 1964, he and Eddie Kendricks were doing leads and co-leads. Paul got lucky with the "B" side of "My Baby" . "Don't Look Back" became a hit. However, David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks voices were more marketable, in the end.

The miniseries was from Otis Williams book. You can't take him for his word. Paul suffered from Sickle Cell. They didn't even mention that in the movie. Blue didn't die in his Mama kitchen. His immune system was messed up from taking all those cortisone shots. He died in the hospital. Ruffin & his death was fabricated as well

He was out of control when I met him in 1971 at the Civic Arena Pittsburgh PA. I was security up front an back stage. They were trying to manage him but not very effective I was amazed and shocked as a yout.

Had the pleasure of meeting Otis William,last surviving Temps,at the “Ain’t To Proud” broadway stage play.Extremely gracious and humble man..He’s 82 years old,doesn’t look it at all.As I look at this video all the temps singing on stage have passed away except for Otis.According to the play based on his book,he didn’t indulge in drugs and alcohol as the others did..Maybe that’s why he’s still alive..The play was awesome btw.

It didn't chart well, was featured in the movie thought Unfortunately alot of the commercially popular songs won out in Motown over songs like this.The I mentioned above is popular with my children so that tells you that music transcends generations.I wish Paul would have had the opportunity to showcase his talent more and he may not have resorted to things that caused his downfall.What a great talent!

The group was and still is the best Group ever .It hurts to know how each passed away .The only one still keeping the group alive is the one starting the group Williams I feel this was his purpose .I had no idea there were so many Temptations. I used to get Paul and David mixed up on some records. They actually sound similar at times. However Paul has a deeper, raspier and soulful voice. I love this guy.

Paul Williams was featured prominently on "Meet The Temptations" (1963) "I Want A Love I Can See," "Check Yourself," "The Further You Look The Less You See," co-leads with Eddie Kendricks "Slow Down Heart." On "Temptin' Temptations," (1965) "Just Another Lonely Night," "Don't Look Back," "Gettin' Ready"(1966) "Who You Gonna Run To," "Lonely, Lonely Man Am I." He was actually their lead in the early days. When David Ruffin came to the group, he began doing leads and co-leads with Eddie Kendricks. Over time, they were the most marketable.

I think it is unhelpful to debate which Temptations member had the best voice. Each singer had a different style and range: Paul's voice was rich and solid; Eddie's was light, airy, and angelic; David's was raw and commanding; Otis' is fluid; Melvin's was a deep barritone: Dennis' was powerful and diverse and the other members all had distinctive styles. Each man sang well and contributed to the group's towering legacy. I personally do not have a favorite; I enjoy their music and feel grateful that they blessed us with their impressive talents.

I am blessed to have seen them (Motown Review) at the original Regal Theater in Chicago on South Park in the 60s when I was fourteen. Man I loved this music - thanks for sharing this
