~ Audiobook Description ~
The ten commandments are not popular today. Atheists want them nowhere in sight. Many Christians say they are outdated. But Dwight L. Moody challenges us to take a closer look. Which of the ten commandments can we honestly say are not good? Which of the ten commandments can we break and not suffer the consequences, both here and in eternity?
This book will challenge you to examine God’s rules for life. God doesn’t ask anything of us that is difficult or unreasonable, and this is certainly true with Jesus Christ as our strength and the Holy Spirit to guide us. This book is a challenging yet refreshing look at some of the oldest, most well-known words of God.

This book is excellent! Chapter 3 addresses cussing & profanity. I used cuss words my entire life. I justified it by thinking & saying there was no hate in my heart and that it was for grammatical punctuation, ie verbal commas and exclamation points. I accepted Christ and was saved in 2014. The sanctification process was such that I didn’t stop cussing until about one year ago. In essence, I was a believer and still used cuss words approximately 8 years into my Christian walk. I’ve done a lot of ungodly, sinful things in my life. I’m grateful to God. Instead of cleaning up then coming to God, Christ Jesus knocked on the door of my heart and I said, “Yes” and let Him in. He has been cleaning me up little by little. I realize I must work along with the Holy Spirit in my sanctification process, as it is written in James, “Faith without works is dead”. I don’t work to act right to earn salvation. Salvation motivates me to want to act right. Being a sinner & a saint is such that I fall short then get convicted by the Holy Spirit, repent then keep pushin. Flawed yet totally grateful and slowly becoming more Christlike.

The Lord, thy GOD,rested on the Sabbath day!!!!
@memowilliam9889

*The Law & the Sabbath* The Sabbath has its roots in the garden. “God blessed it and sanctified it” - but he does not command it until later as a part of the relationship and covenant that he has with the children of Israel through the Mosaic Law. The verses in Exodus that command the Sabbath are to the Israelites and not to the whole world. God did not deliver the gentiles from Egypt. He did not bring them to Mount Sinai. He did not establish a covenant with the gentiles. It does include foreigners living in their cities. This is to prevent the Israelites from getting their work done on an extra day through foreigners and slaves - but more importantly that these foreigners and slaves should also rest. To reiterate: this is not a command for the whole world. It is included with the mosaic covenant with the children of Israel. There exists only two commandments for the bride of Christ. But first, let’s make a distinction between the church and the children of Israel. The Abrahamic promise is different from the mosaic covenant that was made with the children of Israel. Abraham’s promise is that of a son - specifically Isaac, and that all the people’s of the world would be blessed through Abraham - This is the Messianic promise. It is received by faith. “Abraham believed God and it was counted as righteousness.” Jesus is that messiah and his life and death fulfill and close the Old Covenant that was strictly for the children of Israel. The church made up of jews and gentiles have a new covenant of grace and new commands of “Love” The prophet Jeremiah records that the covenants will change: Jeremiah 31: 31-33 31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. 33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Verse 31 is clear that a new covenant was coming and that it would replace the old covenant Verse 32 contrasts it with the Old Covenant. “it will not be like...” the one made with the children of Israel via Moses. Verse 33 explains the difference. This new law will be in their hearts and minds; it is not a to-do list of laws which carry the penalty of death. Circumcision of the penis was a sign of the old covenant. The new covenant requires being born again by the Holy Spirit. This is referred to as a circumcision of the heart. Romans 2:29, Colossians 2:11. It is mentioned in the Old Testament but was only possible on a temporary basis through perpetual repentance. It was not until the Old Covenant was closed and Christ sent the Holy Spirit to make this spiritual circumcision permanent through His indwelling in the believer. The Old Covenant was closed: Ephesians 2: 15 “... having annulled the law with its commandments and requirements...” Hebrews 7:12 “For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.” Hebrews 7:18-19 “there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.“ Hebrews 7:22 “by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.” Hebrews 8:6 “But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.” Hebrews 8:7 “For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.” Hebrews 8:13 “In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.” I Corinthians 13: 8-13 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Matthew 27: 37-40 “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Gentile believers were never under mosaic law. We are taught with complete clarity that we are not now under the law (Romans 6:4). We are under grace and our righteousness is in Christ. I Timothy 1:9-10 8 But we know that the law is good, if a man *use it lawfully;* 9 Knowing this, that *the law is not made for a righteous man,* but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; Shall we sin because we are not under the law? God forbid! We have two the commandments from Jesus. These are not burdensome as John records, and they fulfill all of the laws in a manner that exceeds their limited capability. Laws are what we are forced to do through pain of death. Love is what we are able to do because of the life of Christ in us. I John 5:23 “And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment” John 13: 34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 15:12 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” We are His church. We are not the children of Israel. We are not under the Mosaic law. We are under grace. This is clear in Jeremiah’s prophecy because he uses the phrase “Not like the covenant I made...” It is vastly different. It is for this very reason that we have two separate portions of the Bible: the Old Testament which documents the history, Abrahamic promise, the mosaic covenant, the mosaic laws, and the prophets. In contrast to the New Testament which documents the fulfillment of messianic prophecies, the teachings of Jesus, history of the early church, our clear and only commandment of Love, and further prophecies regarding end times. Because we are the church we have no right to teach, force, or require any believer to obey Mosaic law. This includes the 10 commandments, circumcision - which Paul clearly opposed as part of the New Covenant - and it includes the sabbath. We are to encourage New Covenant law - that of love - which is superior in all ways to the Mosaic law. I firmly believe in the importance of the sabbath in the OT - but only because It demonstrates God’s attitude towards us and our rest that we have in Christ. I am convinced that the sabbath has been replaced; it has not been replaced by Sunday or any other day of the week, but by Christ himself. Many have made “keeping the sabbath” a condition of salvation by believing that if someone does not keep the sabbath then they are part of the Whore of Babylon and will suffer punishment. That is a form of legalism. Additionally, sabbath keeping is a subtle form of pride; for example: “I keep the sabbath, God is pleased with me [but not with you.]” God is pleased with us only because Christ is in us and for no other reason. We were created for good works which is evidence of our genuine faith - and those works are expressed through love for one another, our neighbors, and our enemies. Love is not burdensome. The true believer does not “go” to church. He (or she) is the church. They pray without ceasing. They sing to each other in Psalms, Hymns, and spiritual songs. They love their brothers and sisters, their neighbors, and their enemies. They make amends for their sins, they seek Christ in all things, and rest in him continuously; they do these things every day of the week. So then, does this mean that we are exempt from keeping the 10 commandments? YES, but only because we keep them from the heart: Matthew 22:37 1) Love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength - and we love our neighbor as we love ourselves. 2) Do not falsely imagine God to be anything but who he actually is. 3) We bear the name of Christ. Do not take his name in vain. Do not live like you are married to Christ, but fornicating with the world. 4) Christ is our rest from works of the law. 5) We must honor all lawful authority. 6) We must love our enemies and give them food and clothes. 7) We must not lust after another, which is adultery. 8) We must work to supply our own needs and those of others. 9) We must speak the truth in love, because Christ is the truth. 10) We must be content with what we have because he has said, “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.” We are coheirs with Christ. The true church keeps the sabbath every day because we are in church every day. The Saturday sabbath is not for the bride of Christ. Christ is the Lord of the sabbath. He is the Lord of our rest.

Which of the days of the week is the seventh? Why do you think the Sabbath was presented to man? I am convinced from Scriptures that there are at least two reasons. First, to fulfill our weekly appointment with God, Genesis 2. The second is to provide the weekly rest for the physical body. Do we make an appointment for the Dentist and then turn up a day later? Would you be seen by the Dentist? How then do we think that God, who said "come let us meet on the 7th day", MUST see us when we turn up on the 1st? Surely, surely the truth of the Sabbath is openly available to all who genuinely seek to find it.

*The Law & the Sabbath* The Sabbath has its roots in the garden. “God blessed it and sanctified it” - but he does not command it until later as a part of the relationship and covenant that he has with the children of Israel through the Mosaic Law. I understand that there is a difference between the old covenant law, and the things that the Jewish people had to do literally, and the commandments that come from God. The problem with saying that we're not obligated to obey God's commandments is that it sounds like we are saying that we think it is okay to not love God, to worship idols, to murder, to steal, to covet, etc. I do not understand why some Christians try to make a case for us not needing to obey God's commandments. Again however distinguishing that there is a difference between God's commandments and the Old testament law. I think the Bible makes it same distinction. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. @@Butterfly07949 I've heard that excuse before (that Jesus was speaking to non-Christians). But, the dilemma doesn't change. In Revelation, for example, it's clear that there is a consequence for sin in the believer's life, as also is the case in every single OT and NT book. Are we saved by grace? Yes. Are we damned by our continued sin (there's no more repentance for willful sinning, according to scripture)? Yes. Are there two opposing ideas presented in scripture? Seemingly, yet only to those who aren't willing to take all of scripture at it's word, for what it says. The problem is we think we need to understand everything, to figure everything out humanly speaking. But, by faith, we must accept all of scripture, and also apply it to ourselves as it fits. This idea of picking and choosing which scriptures to believe has to go.

Confused in some points. When this person talked about sabbath and he applied that to Sunday after he said that Jesus changed not the law and prophet. He said Christian sabbath. Christian sabbath stand firmly the same as God said in the beginning of creation, the seventh day. Never changed by God, Jesus or Apostles. Sunday is not sabbath of the Lord. Sunday is a day of work. Sabbath is a seventh day, not a first day. Please do not apply the Holiness and blessings if sabbath to Sunday. And I would like answer for this subject.

We Christians must have the desernment to avoid arguing over trivia. Do you think God cares WHICH day is the 7th or rather, that we keep the sabbath as God intended? Christians need the assistance of the Holy Spirit to know what are SIGNIFICANT errors that can cost us our salvation. Do you honestly believe a Christian's salvation is in jeopardy because he believes (and practices) Sunday as the sabbath rather than Saturday?

Hello Adelin. Thank you for asking the question. It seems clear that the Hebrews held Saturday as the Sabbath, and obviously Christians consider Sunday the Sabbath. I don't that there's necessarily a right Sabbath though, at least in such a way that the Lord is displeased if we don't have the "right" one. I say this based on Romans 14:5: "One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind." So, whatever your local church does, I'd advise you to participate in their practice, provided they truly love and worship the Lord.

The Roman Catholic church has taken the praise of organising the change of the Sabbath day from the Seventh day SATURDAY to the First day of the week, SUNDAY. The intelligent question asked by people of intelligence is this, "can man change the law of God?" How can they do this? This book has been honest in thoughts and content Except with the day God chooses to be the Sabbath. Until we actually know and understand the Name Yehovah and that it comes from the wall form of the verb of existence simply said means He who was, Is And will be the self existent One, and to teach your own soperstitions and presumptions of taking his name in vain could go into the cat agora of taking it in vain, because the word vain means to make it worthless or meaningless. Also swearing in its self is not a sin we are always in a place of being sworn in by serving him. The sin is you shall not share falsely nor have levels of justification for swearing falsely. This why Yeshua said do not swear falsely by using lesser objects of holiness such as by the altar or by the gift of the Altar. The Pharisees were teaching that you can swear falsely if you invoke something less then the Holy things of the Temple, and Yeshua said don’t swear at all falsely even though the Greek texts say do not swear at all, the Hebrew gospel of Matthew says do not swear at all falsely and this is consistent with what the Prophets taught. They were teaching that treat your word in everything you do and say even in your regular worldly business, never swear falsely in any situation that you are in, by letting your Yes Be Yes and Your no be No; because Yehovah gives grace to those who learn to walk a Holy walk in all we do.

Moody, like anyone who tries to circumvent God's word by changing it to suit their *desired* beliefs rather than obeying what God plainly said, has no respect for the Law of God. And that is precisely what Moody did in this writing. Instead of taking God's word (the 10 Commandments) as written, he changed it to fit the way he wanted it to read. That is seen plainly in his loose, apostate interpretation of the 4th Commandment.

@Brillo Pad. I’m not some great theologian, but I will say that I’m just finishing just over two-years of reading and studying the Bible through- and after years of enjoying God’s Word, and I’ll say that the manner in which Moody takes each commandment and expands it out over the greatest-to-least possible interpretation of each one is exactly as Jesus taught, and this is indeed a major theme of the Bible. So, when Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment by the religious leaders who were trying to trap Him into denying the the commandments, He summarized commandments number 1-4 with Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and spirit- and the rest were summarized when He then said, “ and love your neighbor as yourself.” Among Jesus’ intentions was to jolt legalistic religious people out of their self-righteousness and exalting of themselves because, for instance, they had not committed adultery. He taught that if we have though adulterous thoughts; it is the same sin in the eyes of God as though we have done it. That’s what Jesus meant when He said He did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it. Take care. 🦋

I think it’s silly to suggest a person isn’t a Christian who sins. This book says that if you break a commandment then you aren’t a real Christian. LOL. I’m not even a self proclaimed Christian myself and I know how erroneous that is.

If you purposely break a commandment of God, how can you say you love Him? There is a difference between accidentally breaking a commandment and purposely doing so.

Shoot him huh, where is Christ who saves such a person? I guess deep down that's how you feel huh? I guess he can't be saved huh? you didn't say anything about Christ saving such a person, I guess they are not eligible for salvation in the least. When eligibility is being a sinner. You just rushed him to judgement. Is this how a Christian suppose think? Wow... You would want to look at such persons from their childhood to Adulthood. America has already dropped the ball long ago...

I'm not sure what you are saying. Are you saying you understand this book to be offering no hope to sinners? If so, I may be able to help. First, if someone says that once you sin, there is no hope of forgiveness, that would be wrong and unscriptural. But on the other hand, if someone says that once you are saved you don't even have to try to do what is right, that you can do whatever you want even if it is sinful, then that is an error too. According to scripture, we may indeed be forgiven of our sins. That is the hope of the gospel! But Jesus is also clear, and says _if you love me, keep my commandments._ His commandments aren't burdensome and produce good fruit. Obedience to Christ is good for us! That is also what this book says. I hope you understand.

Where in the Bible was the true Sabbath changed to Sunday? It wasn`t, Charlegemain changed it around 600 AD. Look at a calander, was is the last day of the week and the first?

Charlemagne did nothing in 600 - he wasn't even born till 747! Conspiracists - especially from the SDA - love to blame Constantine and the Roman Catholic Church for changing the sabbath from Saturday to Sunday when, in fact, the change from sabbath observance to Sunday worship began centuries before either existed. Although Constantine made Sunday the official Roman day of rest (in 321AD), doing so merely facilitated what was by then a widespread, centuries-old, majority Christian preference in the western Roman Empire for worshiping on Sundays. The earliest _clear_ reference to Sunday worship is found in the _Epistle of Barnabas_ (c.120), in which the writer says: “Your present sabbaths are not acceptable to Me… we keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead”. Note the antisemitism already creeping into the church. Justin Martyr (c.140) wrote of “memoirs of the apostles” being read on “the day called that of the sun” alongside the “writings of the prophets” ( _First Apology_ 67). Many others also wrote of Christian worship on Sundays well before the 4th century; and of other Christians who continued to worship on Saturdays. FWIW, the modern Greek words for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are Παρασκευή (Paraskeuē), Σάββατο (Sábbato) and Κυριακή (Kyriakē), respectively, which shows clearly enough that the Greek church never thought the sabbath had been changed to Sunday. In the first century, παρασκευήν (paraskeuēn) was the Jewish name for Friday (preparation day).

I'm not understanding why you're calling the Sabbath sunday that was changed by Constantine because he changed God's original Sabbath that falls from Friday evening sunset to Saturday Day evening sunset and tried to convert the sun worshipers that's why Church's worship on Sunday now,,, I go to a Sabbath keeping church and we hold our services on Saturday if you are following a Sunday worship in church you are wrong that is not God's fourth commandment that's all there is to it I like all the other things that are wrote and I can agree with them but God did not change the Sabbath Constantine changed it and then later the Roman Catholic Church changed it they said that was their Mark of authority you can literally Google that the Sabbath is from Friday evening sunset to Saturday evening sunset and that's how it has always been since the book of Genesis the problem with most people is there too afraid of offending their friends and the rest of their church members just so you know what we're not keeping the Sabbath like we should these same people won't stand up against other people when the time for the mark of the beast comes up if you can't do it to people who are supposed to love you and worship with you around you you're sure not going to do it when people want to kill you and ridicule you you're going to give in absolutely you should really pray about this if you go to a Sunday worship in church and ask the Lord for discernment and answers to when and if you should actually be keeping the Sabbath like he said or like mankind says remember God says in Matthew 15 9 you you worship me in vain because you follow to the doctrines of men so think about it this way if the Bible tells you to do it one way and you're not and you're doing it because your pastor and your church tells you to do it another way you are the fulfillment of Matthew 15:9 so you might as well stop worshipping cuz he tells you it's in vain
