Why does everyone hate Tanner? Is it because they do not like him because he randomly pops in on a random conversation to talk about his Yu-Gi-Oh card collection?
@@killermode5926 The show would never really explain why they didn’t like him, but there would be long monologues about that fact that people don’t like him.
the whole thing about the scout hearing the crying child and it turning out to be a baby titan is actually kinda disturbing tbh. they had some rly good ideas
@@nouneversawmehere8023 that would mean that an eldian baby got injected the fluid, but that would mean that the baby is a ymir follower, and i dont think thats possible. but they surely could do it for the sake of exterminating the whole family, so that must be some baby titans, but they probably just look like the others and are small titans (3-4 meters)
The whole point of the Armored Titan fight in AOT was that his armor was too durable for Eren to punch through, so Eren had to calm himself down and think about fighting techniques he learned from Annie back in training. Just turning the fight into a slug fest isn't nearly as entertaining as the original, and it makes the Armored Titan far less menacing
It also renders Eren's titan kind of unnecessary since any conventional explosive weapon is just as effective as a titan, as shown in the later seasons.. and these movies are in a time where more advanced weaponries exist.. think of a Howitzer cannon for one.
@@dantefromdevilmaycry9857 I guess movie titans are stronger than anime ones. I guess they don't die easily even though they get hit by modern weapons. But if anime titans were in real life, we could simply shoot their neck with a pistol and probably kill them lol
@@ahlatagaci2018 No they're not, they're just inconsistent... plus look at the Fight between Eren's titan and the Armored one, in the Anime Eren could not attack it head on since it's armor is pretty much impenetrable by physical punches that's why he uses headlocks and armbars instead, in the movie he doesn't do any of that and instead gets in a full on slugfest.. also the Colossal titan gets hurt by RPG.
@@dantefromdevilmaycry9857 I'd explain the first one as the power difference between Eren's titan and Shikishima's titan might be low. Also Eren's titan's skin looks kinda weird, it doesn't look normal like mindless titans' skin. So it might be a harder skin that can beat armored titan with enough force. For second one, true lol. Also remember those titans at modern city bridge scene when Shikishima shows Eren how titans were created in second live action movie? Yeah, those titans were normal mindless titans, but something was wrong. THEY ARE LITERALLY TALLER THAN 60 METERS. AoT doesn't give much attention to logic, size and science I guess.
For the one guy being able to flip the titan: don’t forget that canonically titans are significantly lighter than they appear. So while it might be an unrealistic display of strength it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility.
Well, you do have a point. The way the actors were playing out the scenes was just cringe; but it just doesn't change the fact that they literally took out arguably the most popular character in the anime; just why
For real. It made me laugh. I chuckled when Dazz said “it went from a cute sibling bond to a one sided romance”. My guy there was so much more chemistry in the anime over the movie. Never would’ve guessed this Eren or this Mikasa were into each other😂.
Honestly, I dislike the "new" Levi. I think his plot majorly detracts from the movie. Like he was written as a classic villain instead of a character with depth like Levi or Reiner
I mean, I guess it's because it's a 20 minute recap, but it would be a lot easier to keep track if everyone had diffrent hair colors, or at least diffrent enough clothing. If everyone is wearing the same uniform with a similar hair color and length, it's bound to be confusing for a bit, especially because many of us don't have to deal with that every day.
@@Forestdude9000 I watched the movie about a month ago, that's the time period I was referring to with 'could'... I could see how you got a little confused there though. But yes I agree with you with the hair and clothing confusion.
It’s so weird watching this because he hasn’t watched the anime at this point so hearing all the things he says of what he currently knew at the time of him posting this in the anime makes me go “damn, this anime is wack.” It reminds me of when I first started watching aot and the first few seasons, not knowing anything back then.. and now here we are. The final season with knowledge of almost everything and it’s crazy to think of how we thought of things back then, and then getting answers all these years later.
MIKASA AIN'T NO "DAMSEL IN DISTRESS." SHE A BAD*SS, THE FACT THEY DIDN'T EVEN MAKE HER TOUGH, THEN THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO KILL HER!?! THE PLOT IS AWFUL! IT ISN'T EVEN THE CANON ONE FROM THE ANIME!!! 😭😭😭😡😡😡
If you are going to, I'd just say do something completely different, as long as it's good im in. There's a few good anime live action animes out there. But it's few and far between.
Haruma Miura was it? Me and a friend used to simp for him in high school (before we knew abt this live action actually) and when I heard he passed I couldn’t even begin to believe it
@@shimaren2425 Not sure i don’t know the actors name but he did kill him self. I feel sorry for his family and friends when he killed him self I thought it was from the backlash he got in this life action.
as soon as you said mikasa is a “dainty girl” in this i gave up any hopes that i had that this movie would be good edit: look how they massacred my girl
i think there are some cool things like the clothes, the 3D equipment and some titans looking, Hange is fun-cute also, but the rest is a disaster. tbh the only scene i like is the one when a titan is getting closer and a soldier prepares a gun and a girl next him says like "it doesn't work with titans" and then he uses it to shoot his head, just like one scene in anime LMAO
Yeah, I was confused about that. I asked one of my friends who is Japanese, grew up in Japan for about a decade, and speaks Japanese fluently, has a Japanese accent, etc.......she could say it fine. And.....the Japanese voice actor for the Anime didn't have a problem with it either. It just sounds like a lame excuse to me, lol
"Levi" is a Hebrew name, actually, so neither "re-vi" nor "ri-vai" are correct. I think, though I'm not sure, that the correct pronunciation of said name is "leh-vee". For reference, that is also the way Primo Levi's family name (a Jewish-Italian author and nazi holocaust survivor) is pronounced.
Not so fun fact: The dead guy who was given CPR by his girlfriend was actually ripped in half in the manga, the anime just censored the scene and made it so the guy was still in one piece but still dead
wait what? where did you watch the anime? crunchyroll and hulu and i think even funimation show him ripped in half. armin tells her to stop because he’s dead and it zooms out and only half of his body is there.
The lighting you hate is because of day to night. They filmed the night scenes during the day and slapped filters onto it. Walking Dead did the same thing to save on budget.
But fr though. Can we all give a moment of silence to Haruma Miura, the guy who played eren. He died cuz of suicide. Rest in peace buddy. Sad to see you have to work in a shitty script.
That's for specific parts of the body tho... The bulk of body mass is always concentrated in the centre so it would be significantly harder to lift a whole titan. Plus, even if it is logically feasible, it just seems so bizarre because they never introduce the point of titans being light in the movie itself. For someone watching the movie before the actual anime it would seem so weird to see the big ass monsters being lifted like that
if they're so light how can they have a good balance and throw people around? It makes no sense, if they were that light a bunch of humans could overpower them by force
@@hil449 I literally said that specific parts of their body are light... Head, feet, etc. The bulk of their body is obviously quite heavy... Plus, there's actually scientific rules that explain it... I've seen one in a corridor crew video about the true scales of titans r smn
That was so ridiculous, they made her live to show a fukcing scar down her tities? And that fucking girl with a "son" from Eren? WTF Japan have some creepy way to aproach japanese woman in movies, and I thought in animes was bad
To be fair of the character throwing a titan over his shoulder, it was established in Season 1 that titans don't weigh all that much as Hanji kicks one of their head like a kickball and it goes flying like one. Though it probably wouldn't be as easy realistically, it's still potentially plausible if you keep that nugget of information in mind. The clock tower thing though? Yeah I don't fricking know.
Titans are lighter than they should be, but they still have like 10-20% the weight they should have, so flipping a 10 ft titan is still like flipping a heavy person, possible theoretically, but the size of the titan makes it near impossible.
@@Forestdude9000 And with how frantic titans are with how much they wanna eat you, that really lowers the chances of it happening. But even though it's theoretically possible, I'm not saying that anyone can just lift and throw the Colossal Titan Super Mario 64 style
I definitely think a Western studio should be making the live action version, cause come on, you got characters with Western names and it's set in a seemingly Western civilization so of course the Japanese are gonna butcher them.
I recently watched this with a friend, after we'd watched all the original episodes they had so far. The series is absolutely great, beautiful animation and an amazing soundtrack. But this.... we both hated it so much and didn't even bother with the sequel. It's so terrible ... it hurts ...
@@bestaround3323 I absolutely love the anime and the manga. Cliffhanger on the manga (with no spoilers) got really crazy, bunch of “join the dark side” and “rumbling” 😉 Season 4 isn’t as good as the ones before IMO, since the story drifts away to something entirely different, but the expansion on the world does change your perspective dramatically based on what you’d been introduced to in the beginning.
@@kalakazam6562 I've watched the first three seasons of AOT. I watched a few ep's of season 4 and really didn't like it. I just felt that they watered down everything that I liked about the first 3 seasons and the pacing was really poor.
1:50, he IS a good actor, that role just wasn’t meant for him. I wish people could understand that. Last year he passed away from suicide. I remember seeing on jp twitter someone posted that he said he never wanted to watch this movie that it gave him bad memories a while back. especially from all the harassment he got. (Screenshots were added too) Of course this movie wasn’t the sole reason he did it, but he was going through a lot and the harassment he got due to being miscasted was so unwarranted and it did affect his mental health even more. I know you didn’t mean it in a bad way either, it was literally for like a split second but anything related to Miura upsets me because he was one of my favorite actors.
I feel like setting it in a more technologically advanced time takes away from the series a bit. Having tanks seems like it would be too effective on titans sometimes. I mean they use other explosive weapons and they work so…
@@andrewtross not till season 4. Not to mention the ppl inside the walls wouldnt be trapped there by the titans if they had tanks and shit. N that island being a self imposed prison is like a major plot point of the show
@@loggingoffsao plus the tanks and machine guns ARE effective against the titans, many of the people in the trenches on the mainland talk about how technological advancements are bringing an end to the Era of the Titan
@@scottdenby290 yeah so if for instance, the titans from live action AoT can withstand gunfire from tanks, that kinda makes them superior to the titans from the animanga. But only in durability. Everything else? Hard pass.
Funny thing is, the Titans will be horribly defeated by Air Strikes and Air Force Alone. If the U.S could "Kill them in an ease." Then the Titans wouldn't be a problem for the rest of the world.
When I saw this in theaters, the movie froze on the scene "We've been waiting for this day!" The whole theater of people were laughing and talking until they got it fixed and people seemed to comment for the rest of the film when it was weird. Bad film, but fun experience honestly
My cousin said he loved Attack on Titan. He watched the live action movie... I told him the anime was way cooler and he should watch it. He took one glimpse and immeadietly concluded it was trash... We continued the first episode and he kept complaining about how everything was so dramatic and stupid. 😑 He did not shut up. Than I asked him to leave and he wanted to stay and continue criticizing every second of it. His little brother was actually trying to get into it but joined my cousins side and they both ended up hating the anime.
That’s the thing, if you expose a person to the false source first, (movie, show) they tend to favor the non-canon source rather than the original since the original doesn’t match up with the non-canon source. For example, If you expose your little brother to the live action of death note, they probably won’t view the actual anime the same way as the movie. Pretty much biased opinions. It’s human nature
I understand why they would go for an entirely new backstory for the titans and the world Maybe its cause they dont want to spoil the manga story or maybe they just wanted to explore a different origin, when I first heard of AOT and knew nothing about the plot i defenetly thought "yeah its mutated giant human experiment science apocalypse things"
They had no idea they only had season 1 and the manga was not much so they just made everything up like the baby titan which in fact can exist in aot anime but they come out from the titan
@@Joker-jw1iq That's not really how you make an adaptation, they didn't just have season 1 and the manga, they had the actual creator working with them, and he's the one who suggested changing the setting and story to make them interesting to someone who has already seen the anime/manga.
Isayama wrote for both movies, director Higuchi initially intended for the films to be more faithful, but Isayama wanted them to be able to stand up on their own
Having a bunch of Japanese actors playing the *white, European* protagonists while keeping their names and the setting was the first and only red flag I needed.
Yes, it got sucks when the actor's race is different with the character's race. Just like how Hollywood used a white actor to played Goku, this movie, and ATLA live action
what the anime tells you over and over again: the titans don't have reproductive organs and they start far back from the walls what the movie implies: the titans have been fricking and the babies wander out on their own
This is so interesting lol, after watching the recent seasons most of the changes they made wouldnt make sense for later events in the story. i.e. them having vehicles. That would mean marley would need to be in the 21st century or some shit lol.
I herd a director once said. "no director want's to retell someone else's story". This is probably why most screen adaptations of (insert videogame/comic/anime title) is 99.99% always different from the original. Furthermore AoT is a masterpiece, those are some huge shoes to fill. Any adaptation will be heavily scrutinized by the fanbase.
They should maybe do an AoT that centers around the point of view of the lesser known characters. Maybe that of the Owl. Telling his entire story from child hood to adult. It would make a nice spin off.
4:30 no wonder I hadn't heard about this. That makes no sense cutting literally one of the most important characters who isn't one of the 3 protags (Armin Eren and Mikasa)
I've never heard of anything so contrived and ill conceived for the backstory of the titans' existence. There is so many ways how a modern era would absolutely squash an outbreak of near mindless, rampaging titans. It's why the anime has it set in pre-modern era for this to work.
If they went movie original they shoulda toyed with “What if Titans just popped up today?” Woulda been a better idea then just a whole different plot with some of the characters from the anime.
That's actually a great idea, the only redeeming part of these movies is the idea that titans were made genetically and the prospect of modern technology. Like if you're gonna make a whole new version why not make it cooler
6:20 ah yes, horses and chariots, how fantastical and magical Also, in the anime see the world outside the walls is a large part of Erin's motivation. Extra fun fact:in the original, the area inside the walls is twice the size of Japan
This is on Netflix in my country, and it was even on the theater when it came out, but I have never ever heard a word of praise for it, so I have avoided it like the plague
Good for you! You escaped the plague while I watched it in 2015, so excited to watch AOT the first day of opening in the movie theaters. However, it turned out horrible! I wasted my money on such crappy AOT live action movie! The producers didn't do justice to the anime!
My biggest problem with this movie is probably just because of the characters. Everyone has black hair and a lot of them has have the same hairstyle. I legitimately couldn't remember who's who so i couldn't get any emotional attachment to them, and any deaths of the main gang just loses its meaning.
lol, so you can't distinguish aisn ppl except for their hair? Nice self-report bro. BTW, asians have the same problem with us, we all look either like tom cruise or Owen WIlson. So, next time don't write such embarassing comment yea? Lesson learned hopefully.
I understand some of these changes, but some were still pretty silly. The two things that bothered me the most were the terrible effects and orienting it towards a Japanese audience. The German themes are really important to the overall message since it uses imagery from WW1 and Nazi Germany, but I get that it's probably a budget thing.
@@LoopyLemon775 What do you mean? The Marley literally put bands around the arms of Eldians and they want to wipe out their entire race. They are also confined to certain locations and given reduced rights. That's literally Nazism. Even prior to the Marley, the concept of a strong distinction between friend and foe is crucial to Schmidt's societal philosophy (the primary Nazi philosopher the Wisecrack video referenced), which appears in the beginning of the series with Eren's hate for the Titans. It's not like I'm saying AoT supports Nazism. I'm saying it's a criticism of it. You can see this because they keep breaking down the distinctions between friend and foe. First by showing the Titans are just humans, then by showing the humans aren't too hot either, then by showing the Marley aren't all evil, etc, etc, etc. Honestly, I think it fits too well to be an accident.
While, I’m glad the live action Aot franchise never became a thing. I can’t help but be morbidly curious if to how they would have handled season 4 material.
Dont know how to feel if Reiner is the unanimous protagonist of the live action franchise if they would hypothetically skip to season 4. Sure, he is my favorite character but still
@@mattoreo5854 I can imagine that the live action Marley would have been more advanced with its technology. Live action Paradis already had vehicles so, maybe getting to see jet planes or something would be interesting.
"In the film he is the replacement for Hannes is just a drunken protective type not a garrison officer" I mean he is also a drunken protective type in aot so...
I was so confused when I saw this in theatres. The introductions were sort of quick so I didn't even realize many of the characters were renamed and just referred to them as their perceived anime counterparts, but then that made it so much more confusing XD
Idea: Just make the live-action adaptations take place in the same universe but follow a completely different plot. Then you get some competent writers, directors, and actors, and you're set. Even better if you add some extra bits that reference the source material as a bit of fan-service, and you have a good adaptation. Basically, just be the MCU. Don't be overly faithful and strangle creative abilities, but don't go so balz 2 tha walz that it loses its original connections.
