Jessie Johnson played guitar on stage, but this is PRINCE playing lead guitar on the recording. If you listen, you hear him singing background vocals also. He produced their album under the name Jamie Starr, but it was Prince.
Funny seeing these youngsters connect with Prince's music and sound now, while during the time that he was around, idiots kept claiming that he was "played out". Common people know next to nothing about real music. Prince's music NEVER goes "out of style". The man was before his time and his music is timeless.
you all prolly dont give a shit but does anyone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot my password. I would love any tips you can give me
@Clay Hendrix thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Our music was for dancing. We liked our songs to be longer. 7 to 15 minutes of funk. Sometimes a part A and part B. Or an extended version. The version with the lyrics, plus the instrumental-only version.
So what did the rest of the band members of the Time do? Prince participated on the album including production, but the band members played instruments as well. The Time was the band.
The Time was an extra funky band from Minnesota. They were put together by Prince. Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were members as was Jesse Johnson, Morris Day, Jelly Bean, Jerome and a few more musicians. Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis have produced hit records for everyone from Janet Jackson to New Edition to Mariah Carey and more... Morris Day- Oak Tree Jesse Johnson- I Want My Girl Morris Day & The Time- Jungle Love
The band was the Time. And they played the instruments. Prince made contributions to the album and played guitar as well. But he didn't play every single instrument.
@@chalmapatterson544Prince WROTE & PRODUCED the The Times first few studio albums. And played ALLLLLLL of the instruments. He would show The Time how to play the songs LIVE, but the studio versions of these songs were ALL PRINCE ROGERS NELSON. Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis speak on this ALL of the time.
The song could've been shorter? Nah, it wasn't long enough!😂 That song is like the ultimate jam. Prince may have done all of the instruments on the recording, but the Time definitely did their thing when playing this live. Tired of the Prince stans not giving Morris, Jimmy, Terry, Monte, Jellybean and especially Jesse, who's on guitar, their due. These dudes are great musicians in their own right.
Well Prince is the one who encouraged them to play live the way they did. That is why a Prince show was always great-You heard the songs, but they were BETTER than what you had on that cassette! That’s the thing today’s artists don’t care about.
Without Prince there was no Time... SMDH!! I'm tired of all the stupidity of folks thinking the cart comes before the horse that pulled it. NO canvas was available or provided by their OWN so called greatness until P made it possible. NONE of them were doing anything close to what they became before P...so STOP it. The rehearsals, training, pep talks, showing them how to play THEIR instruments better than them!! Even Jam and Lewis mentioned that NUMEROUS times.. So STOP it!!
Try their other hit, Jungle Love. You'll see where Bruno Mars took his sound from. To me, he's just a pale copy of the original 80's funk music. Another song you should check out is Oh Sheila by Ready For The World. It's got a very similar sound and beat to this song. The video is a time capsule of the 80's in all its fabulous glory.
This is all Prince..Every instrument!! Morris and the rest of the Time just contributed the vocals. Prince was that dude!!! He did the same thing for Vanity 6 Check out “Nasty Girl”
That's exactly how we felt when we heard it back in the day of course we use to listen to the long version and instrumental of this song and others new generation don't appreciate long versions of songs like we did back in the day even the radio use to play it all the time not today .
Yeah when I listen to most of the newer albums being released today I notice most of the songs are under 4 minutes throughout the entire album. Of course that's probably because none of the producers and singers actually play any instruments. Pretty sad, but I digress.
You're really branching off into the deep pits of funk Minneapolis style.. courtesy of the Genius of Prince...I take it you're also really beginning to appreciate the lost art of playing instruments.. composition writing and family friendly themes...
Man, I couldn't agree with you more. I play this music for my kids and tell them, you do realize there are actual human beings playing everything you hear with perfect timing, don't you? Lol
777-9311 was the phone number of Prince's guitarist. He had to change it after the song came out because people kept calling wanting to speak to Prince.
We're only young once. This was my prime-time music era. I was doing my thang in the 70s and the early 80s. It doesn't really matter how the new generation has run off with our 'gifts', just as long as everyone knows the early generation have already boxed and gift-wrapped it all FIRST.
Jessie Johnson on guitar 100 percent!! prince was executive producer, i live in mpls and am friends with Jellybean Johnson the drummer and Sunny Thompson who was Princes Mentor!!
Keep in mind that this album only had 6 songs on it. I think it allowed Prince to really let the instrumentals play out in a way that he wouldn't be able to if they were more than 6 songs on it. Because of it I never really felt cheated even though I knew most of the other albums out at the time had like 10 or more songs on them.
You can't go wrong with Prince that goes without saying, checkout: Nasty Girls~Vanity 6 The Character~Morris Day Screams Of Passion~The Family Mechanical Emotion~Vanity Can You Help Me~Jesse Johnson Cool~The Time just a few songs you should react to.
My all time favorite Time song. These guys were so tight, and one of those bands that sounded just as good live. It was uncanny how good they were. Enjoyed watching you discover this one. I can feel your joy just like I did when I first heard it back in the 80s.
Morris Day and the Time were so cool! I remember this song from when I was in high school! They were so funky and cool! They were Prince affiliated and you can hear it in the music! React to more of their songs like “Cool”, “Oak Tree”, “Gigolos get lonely too”, “The Bird”, etc! This band is one of a kind!❤️❤️
One reason Black folks can create great music no matter what part of the country they come from. I because there were musicians and they could play instruments. It can start in your head but if nobody can play an instrument, you are done. MJ could actually play the piano and drums and a little guitar, he learned to play them by taking lessons
MJ didn't play anything. What you loved about Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad was Quincy Jones, believe it. Regarding the ability of Black folks, you're absolutely correct. Check out Romanian Gypsy music you would be amazed. Look up "hora tiganeasca".
Jesse Johnson and Ernie Isley have to be two of the most underrated and unappreciated guitarists in the history of music. I don't care what anyone says! 😂
You are aware the Prince played op percent of all the instruments on the first two Time albums. The Band The Time was great in concert. And was the back up band for Vanity 6
@@veedub95 I'm absolutely aware of that, however, it doesn't take away from Jesse's solos on the album and in concert. The man was just insane when it came to shredding the guitar.
Prince was on the guitar. That's a testament to how great he really was on guitar!! Taught it to Jesse Johnson the Band's guitarist to play it back when they performed live...or at least a version of it as best as he could!!
The Time - Cool. They were a band that got together through Prince. If you can react to Purple Rain the movie. It's an excellent introduction to get familiar with Prince.
So where did that title came from? Well, when this was recorded, Prince himself had just released "1999" and got word from Revolution guitarist Dez Dickerson (Look up the "1999" video Dez is the one with the Japanese bandana and the black and white guitar) that he wanted to leave The Revolution after the tour was over. Prince, ever the understanding one told him that he understood and wished him all the best. After the tour finished Dez was replaced by Wendy Melvoin. But Prince didn't let Dez go without a final jab in the latter's ribs. Because "777-9311" was Dez' actual phone number.
There's a song on The Times ice cream castles album the title is My DRawls Prince played everything,, but his drumming on that song was spot on love the way but the bottom foot into my draws by the time,,,,
I love this group....After a disagreement with Prince, Alexander O'Neal was replaced with Morris Day. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis left the group after a disagreement with Prince as well. Jesse Johnson is a former member whose solo music you should check out if you haven't already.
hey! i'm a coupla yrs late with this, but do you know that Morris Day was so quickly beloved by ALL (after the explosion that was the movie PURPLE RAIN) that he was given his own sitcom? love that guy
Great video love how you are reacting to a lot of old music used to listen to this when I was a kid I don’t remember names or song or I would be recommending some song thanks for jogging my memory
@just jammin...... the time... Front man... Morris Day... Prince's cousin..... from Minneapolis Minnesota... Prince... The time... Vanity 6.... Sheila E.... would coin what was called... The Minneapolis sound..... check out the movie.... Purple Rain it will lay out for you the whole Minneapolis scene in the late 70s early 80s... Another song by the time.... Gigolos Get Lonely Too... And Ice Cream Castles... Prince did a lot of background vocals for the time... Also... Check out Nasty Girl by Vanity 6...
I gotta start pacing you out. These video reactions are kill'n me. But what a way to go. This The Time, but Prince wrote (and played) a lot of what's on the album. Jessie Johnson on guitar however, Prince wouldn't write his part and let him rip. Either Prince or Morris on the drums. Prince on bass I think. It could be Terry Lewis but on the album I think it's Prince.
Do you like this one? Listen to their song "Walk" I use it to walk in the park. I really enjoy watching your reaction to the songs I grew up listening to. Thanks for sharing. That might be Prince on the guitar.
Kind Sir, the only Hotter than the guitar and Synth is that drummer. I remember hearin' this as a 15 year Old punk rawk drummer, Däng. Live Videos are out there. Look into them. And keep on keepin' "On"... yours
You do know that album is all Prince. All vocals and all instruments. Morris Day's Vocals was overdubbed for the lead vocals. The entire album was written, produced, and performed by PRINCE!!!
U haven't heard nothing yet...They got one called, 'The Stick', and, 'Get it up' U might want to look in on. This is excellent motivation music now for aerobics.
