They don't make classics anymore, just product to be consumed mindlessly by the masses. No different from any other Snickers bar churned out at any other factory in the world.
You need a good story. That's one thing that Hollywood doesn't do any more. And you definitely don't need a political message which is what Hollywood loves now.
It is one of the greatest movies ever made. No pun intended, it is timeless. I saw it in the movie theatre in 1960. And it holds up even today and will into the future. For us old Canadians theater is spelled theatre.
@@2msvalkyrie529 what are you talking about? They still use imperial measurements in Canada except for distance! This is one of the quirks about the US and Commonwealth countries.
The scene of the Morlock decomposing used to spook the living daylights out of me whenever The Time Machine was on TV in the in the 1970s/1980s. Excellent film though and my all time favourite film.
It's scary isn't it! 😨 Imagine if it came back to life in its half decomposed state (just as the eye was about to come out) and started attacking him again... Really scary.
I agree. The 1960 movie had some cheesy fight scenes with the Morlocks but at least it tried to stay closer to the book. The 2002 movie version of The Time Machine was awful on the whole. This book was so great. It is one of my favorites. Maybe someday in the future someone will do the movie the way it should be done.
@Nidhogg Having watched both the 1960 and 2002 versions, I must say that both deviate from the book, with the latter to a greater extent. The book is much darker in tone and more preachy than both movies. I found the time traveller's description of his descent into the world of the Morlocks particularly chilling.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams
“Oh. Please! It's not a time machine, if anything; it looks like something that Elton John would drive through the Everglades” -Penny from season 1, episode 14, TBBT.
Born well after this time but I really love it. One of my all time fav films. I have only seen this version too, not the more current one. So many great films were made years ago!!
cause it is based on true knowledge, time here is the spiritual dimension, the war against the cannibal Morloks is a spiritual one, closer to present time, than anyone wants.
Still doesn't quite have the impact the book had on me. For instance, in the book after he takes the machine back, he goes to an even more distant future and makes a stop there, to see the sunset of life on the planet, the ocean taking over most of the land, and barely escapes being devoured by a giant ocean creature. Not to mention all his reflections on the humankind and society throughout the book.
And the vast and mysterious architecture. The book and that particular part live in my head as well as when he was exploring "the archive" building. So much wonder and dread at the same time
@@fugglenurd673 That is true as you hear the sound of clocks from this movie's intro when Ash is coming out of the cellar. They even mention this in the commentary.
Okay Rod Taylor's Time Machine has 1 disc, and when Simon Wells gets his Hands on it He gives it a Couple Extra Discs for more Oomph. But they both work the Same way The Disc or Discs Act as a Flux-Capacitor Encapsulating the Machine in a Tachyon Time Bubble Created by Electricity as they Spin, or as Ron Mallett puts it a Spoon Stirring Coffee.

Genius is an overused word these days but H G Wells was simply incredible . This and War of the Worlds were written in Victorian times. ! Unbelievable !
I wouldn't mind going back to 1900, you already have most of your modern day amenities, electricity, running water, indoor plumbing, etc... without the extra crap you don't need, computers, cell phones, etc... And I don't want to hear from some SJW, what about the racism, there's racism today, so what? Oh yeah, and no SJW in those days, if there were, they would get a beat down and be dealt with swiftly.
@@JENDALL714 Racism was even worse back then, it's nowhere near comparable to today. Also, no child labor laws, so there's no way your children would avoid grueling work. This was back in the days before OSHA as well. Don't forget the Titanic.
Most places in America did not have electricity until later decades. Most Americans worked in manual labor in the 1900s. Life expectancy was around age 50 around 1900 to 1910 in America. The 1950s were a much better time. I grew up in the 1980s. It was a decent decade as well.
