Bernie Williams is the most under-appreciated Yankee of all time

With these calls, it's hard not to get emotional. I'm having a hard time holding back my tears thinking and reliving those moments 🥲🥲

I was working 2nd shift at the time of the Scott Brosius homerun in game 5. I was listening to the game on the radio at work and made it home in time for the bottom of the ninth. We had 2 young daughters . . . ages 5 and 8. When Brosius hit the homer to tie the game I went nuts . . . screaming with ephoria. My wife said to hush up or I'll wake up the girls. "Are you kidding . . . you never see this again in our lifetime!" Well, I'm 73 now and yes, I will never see anything like that again and I thank John Sterling for broadcasting that wonderful moment and giving me chills to this day!

Francesa and Mad Dog used to lead their afternoon drive replaying Sterling calls from the night before!!! They would crack up hysterically! Always great when they started show like that!

Not a Yankee fan but his calls are by far some of the greatest in baseball history.

That's his #1 Yankees call but to me his all time call is Rick Camp hitting a game tying HR in the bottom of the 18th against the Mets in 1985

Games 4 and 5 are in my top five favorite sports memories. Those, Jeters final home AB, Jordan's final sequence as a Bull (Hits a jumper, steals from Malone, hits the game winner) and Mattingly (my favorite player from the moment I started watching as a six year old) hitting a homer in his only playoff series. Toughest one to leave out is Charlie Hayes catching the final.out in 96, since that was the first championship in my time watching.

If I could go back in time and change one single play in all of sports history it would be Mariano throwing the ball into center field. Still have nightmares over it

8:05 he DIDN’T say “greatest Homerun in WS history”. He said “probably the most unbelievable feat in WS history”. There is a big difference. Sterling was clearly considering the fact that it was the same hitter against the Same closer in the 9th inning… tell me when that’s happened before or since? It is anything but hyperbole, especially since he added the disclaimer of “probably”.

I'll admit...I started to rip a bit on Mr. Sterling...it is high! It is far! It's....caught by the 2nd basemen...ha..but he was a great announcer.

Totally with you. I love a lot of his calls,but his generic HR call tends to be used on non homers over half the time. I always though Kays call was great, "Back, track, to the wall, she's gone." It gives him room to pivot if it isn't a homer. But Johns Bern baby Bern is my favorite call of all time.
@sabian630
@sabian630 Месяц назад
@@snerdterguson agreed...I think Kay's call does allow him to pivot...see ya! Is great...and based on the home run he extens it.....there it goooooooes! See ya! Ha Sotos HR last night was epic. No way we don't sign him. I'd be shocked otherwise. Yankee fans will tear the stadium down. Ha

I give him credit for his professionalism, his work ethic, and his longevity but people calling him a goat is ridiculous. He blew so many calls and was super corny. He'd get calls wrong but not even correct himself. To be honest he should have hung it up like 5-10 years ago, I know people won't like these takes but him and Suzyn are boring af
@brucekeller5259
@brucekeller5259 Месяц назад
I agree. Yankee broadcasts are a 3 hr commercial. Suzan doing commercials for Route 22 Toyota, etc. boring AF
