On Today's Episode:
How many diets have you tried to lose weight? The problem is a lot of these diets are all successful on some level, but not many are effective in keeping the weight off and helping you maintain a healthy weight and a healthy lifestyle long-term.
Jessie Inchauspie is the Glucose Goddess of Instagram that wrote the international bestseller, Glucose Revolution to address the glucose rollercoaster 80% of people can’t stop riding. In her book she gives practical tips to make lifelong changes that will help you control the glucose spikes affecting your health.
So what are some of the key strategies Jessie points to:
Veggies at the start of your meal
Fiber is super protective when consuming sugars and starches
Changing the order you eat your foods means you can still enjoy sugar
Check out Jessie’s book, Glucose Revolution: www.amazon.com/Glucose-Revolu...
QUOTES:
“My work on teaching people about glucose is not a diet and its primary objective is not fat loss. Its primary objective is to help the 80 odd percent of the population that has glucose spikes everyday avoid those spikes, [...] the common consequence is fat loss but that’s not the primary angle we’re going after.”
“The amount of fat you have on your body is not a very good representation of your internal health.”
“In order to lose fat your insulin levels have to be down.”
“Starches and sugars they’re fine to eat but they’re for taste, they’re for pleasure.”
“Fiber is only really useful in the context of other bad stuff you’re eating.”
“Glucose is your body’s preferred energy source, […] Every single living thing on this planet also runs on glucose, from plants, to dolphins to humans.”
“Your muscles are your best friend in this glucose world.”
“The best time to eat a cookie is before you workout.”

I started following Jessie’s hacks because I wanted to stop being hungry every 5 minutes back in April of 2022. Now in March of 2023 I can go 4-5 hours between meals, I’ve lost 35lbs, eat three meals a day, and didn’t have to cut out an entire food group! My anxiety and panic attacks have gotten better too. Absolutely life changing.

38:18 - 38:40 Don't eat sweet breakfast (eggs, whole eggs are perfect) Get your protein (maybe a bit of fat) Eat in right order (first veggies, protein then starches, and if dessert, it goes last) Add spoon vinegar before eating things that spike your glucose levels Eat sugars as dessert (no snack, not on empty stomach) Stay active :)

Having been fat for over 40 years with yo-yo dieting I had a really hard time when I turned 40. Becoming middle-aged a decade ago really was difficult to just move and function daily. I had no knowledge of any of this and in 2018 took the experience of being in pain every single day and decided to put in the energy to getting better. I came on YT and have appreciated all these interviews, channels, and commenters on healthy information for your body. What I have found out is that you have to take a bit from each and make it your own to achieve a better life. I lost 50 lbs last year and still watch and learn since things change in science all the time.

We only have a period because our body when releasing an Unfertile egg takes opportunity to shed toxic blood. This is proven in the high carb raw vegan diet. They are still fertile and get pregnant but there blood doesn’t have a bunch of toxic fat in the blood. It could’ve been also for you on the keto diet that your body just didn’t have any toxic blood to release and how would you know if you were not fertile at that time because you weren’t trying to have a baby. But having a period is just a curse of a diet that is toxic for any woman, but it’s also a grace to be able to release toxic blood and rebuild fresh blood.

Interesting how in the middle of this talk, they touched the subject of death and dying and how Tom is not okay with the thought of people wanting to die and how Jessie was totally okay it. It reminded me of NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE stories or NDEs. It is so fascinating how everyone who has experienced an NDE said that when they saw what their physical bodies looked like from the perspective of their spiritual bodies, they all said how their bodies seemed so little and insignificant…like a snake shedding its skin. Like compared to their spiritual bodies, their physical bodies meant absolutely nothing. Yet here we are so obsessed about longevity and never wanting to get old and die. So ironic. Just a thought.

Her approach is so refreshing while society is so consumed by diet culture - health focused instead of weight focused, not an all-or-nothing approach but knowing theres room for all foods in moderation and that it doesn't have to ruin our health. I also love how gentle/easy her hacks are is which is so much better for people to ease into making healthier decision around their diet and overall health. In the past four months, I have lost 53 pounds by getting off the carbs, getting rid of sugar, with intermittent fasting. Plus, I am taking good supplements and getting my gut bio in order. @@muscleman369 I agree 😊 I definitely don’t take in the amount of sugar in a standard American diet. I’m actually on an OMAD diet. I was keto 3 years before that but once I lost the weight and got strong, I decided to implement carbs and sugar into my OMAD. I have it last of course, and it’s usually honey, agave based deserts, but if I want a doughnut after that then I have one, but I would never recommend to just gorge on sugar and carbs. No matter what weight you are, it’s not good for us to have a massive sugar/carb intake. Around an hour in this becomes painfully but brilliantly philosophical. It’s like watching the feminine aspect of existence and the masculine aspect of existence have a conversation and as usual, the feminine aspect is being judged for her personal relationship with existence, because the masculine aspect hasn’t yet had the experience of connecting with anything other than 3D reality and external ‘truths’. Quantum science is going to be the bridge but I’m squirming just listening to how Jesse is having to dumb down her ‘woo’ for the sake of not losing the masculine altogether. The problem of overweight is more than a question of what you eat and your glucose level. Dr. Giles Yeo has a more comprehensive view of food and how those calories, from whatever food source, interacts with our bodies. Even if all a person ate were foods that kept insulin levels regulated and the stomach full they might still experience hunger. That is regulated by hormones and is not under our conscious control. Furthermore, as we age we lose muscle mass which burns calories; so if you continue to eat as you did at 20, you are just about guaranteed to put on weight even though your insulin levels are fine! This problem is way more complicated than any of the discussions I have listened to.

Hope you don’t think your cervical cancer has anything to do with you eating badly for a whole year, because that’s not the reason for the cancer. I’m so very sorry that you’re having to deal with cancer and for your husband’s passing. Don’t be mad at yourself because eating badly for a year is not the reason for the health issues, especially the cancer. Just eat healthier and continue to receive treatments for the cancer. Nothing is too late. Just be kind to yourself and get enough sleep and proper nutrition. Wishing you a speedy recovery from the cancer.

I have read the book just recently, ITS AMAZING!!! Totally, totally, changed my approach to food. I've hated veggies ever since I was a kid, and since reading this book I decided to give them a try - it's a GAME CHANGER!! I switched from egg-whites only breakfast to egg-whites WITH veggies (zucchini, broccoli, bell peppers) and its less than 100 calories!! I don't feel hungry at ALL!! For lunch its veggies again and if I have trained I also eat 1/2 slices of bread with greek yogurt or whatever I have. The other tip that MAKES A DIFFERENCE, is eating veggies first, fat/protein second, and carbs last. I would have never ever thought that maintaining a slim body would be so easy. You really can't be eating oats and peanut butter all day long and except to look like a model, it's pretty high in calories. And not feeling hungry totally reduced my cravings. I can stand in front of chocolate w/o torturing myself!

When she said she struggled with sleep i pieced that together with no period and instantly thought hypo thyroid. You can drop yourself into a thyroid disfunciton with only 10lbs loss. This is more of a factor when you can't afford to loose those 10lbs. One of the many reasons doctors don't recommend keto for everyone. Lean body types like her are told not to starve for this exact reason. Also the swing in mood is an affect of thyroid disregulation

Even the slightest amount of carbs send me into oblivion for the next four hours or more. Finally a speaker who really SPELLS it out for the listener and those of us who have been trying to understand why something that keeps us alive also makes us feel so miserable. She also eloquently explains about the cells and mitochondria and diabetes and puts it all together in a coherent picture and finally we get a visual instead of lots of jigsaw pieces thrown randomly by different experts! Absolutely fantastic video !! Love it ! Jessie you are a master communicator !! Some of these I knew but they were disjointed practices I would occasionally do. By packaging them as hacks to prevent Glucose spikes and explaining what a difference it makes to health, you give them a whole new powerful context ! I will be buying your book for friends and family, thank you ! And I have done both extremely low carb and intermittent fasting but what I was missing was a healthy way to eat when I am not practicing those more extreme health regimes because you are right, you can't do them all the time and I wouldn't want to. Sometimes I want to eat at different times and eat carbs. Also sometimes you want to join in and celebrate and eat with other people ! Consciousness - Wow I wasn't expecting us to go down (or more correctly out and everywhere) that rabbit hole. On a previous video I had watched about Jessie, it did occur to me you were having some kind of triggered spiritual experience ! I had a friend who would spontaneously come out of their body. Most awareness / self-realisation is about tuning in to the fact consciousness is actually everywhere. In my early 20's after many days 'Just sitting' on my bean bag, I walked outside and had this experience of being connected to everything, a bit like a Lucid dream and when I looked into peoples eyes I could see it was the same consciousness in me as in them. There was a knowing recognition, like we were all in a play together playing our parts. If you want to experience the expansion then try to stay conscious as you fall asleep. As we fall asleep we expand into everything and then the dream or some other realm forms. Lucid dreaming which you can also practice is very powerful for this because you are also expanded, and you know it's a dream. You are fully conscious but there is no normal world. I would also look at www.headless.org a very simple but powerful set of practices for being self-aware ! Regarding death Tom, what you are is immortal, that awareness never dies ! In a Lucid dream you are that and yet a lot of the time you have no access or memory of the waking world. You are just AWARE AS YOU ! It's not an issue because what changes and what we think (literally our thoughts) is IN YOU but NOT YOU ! Also with meditation and mindfulness practice done continually, a day can feel like a week or longer so you can literally turn a 70 year life into a 490 year one by being aware ! Thank you Tom, I have watched a lot of your videos on many channels ! Amazing work ! Thank you for your dedication to this work !! All the best to you both, enjoy your spiritual warrior journey !! We are all already home but it's fun anyway ! 🙂

A third Doc, asked what I was eating and decided I ate too many carbs. Told me to stop bread, cakes potatoes etc., and just eat everything else. I improved immediately and after 3 months gained a stone in weight, re introduced a few carbs but still ate lots of Veg, a little chicken and a meat, puddings after dinners and never looked back. I feel hungry all the time. and last year, I started to lessen my sugar and starchy intake, and I avoid eating processed food. I noticed I lost weight , not hungry and my mood changed tremendously into a positive way. 😀

I do modified keto. Amazing. Low fat never gave me good results either. So much happier now ❤

What I think is mind boggling, is I used to put cottage cheese on my salads, and had zero problem digesting the raw veggies now I know the probiotics helped with that. Quit dairy, then I made sure I had vinagarette on my salads, zero problem w salads. Stopped vinegar and just did olive oil. More issues w digesting the salad, more bloat, and thought, key ingredient I’m missing, vinegar, something acidic to help w the alkalinity. I mix vinegar and olive oil now and boom, back to breaking it down. Crazy how the balance of everything is so real!!
