2012 was the last leap year where Federer played a full season. He won Dubai, Rotterdam, Indian Wells, Blue Court Madrid , Wimbledon, Cincinnati. One of the best seasons in the 2010s for FedEx .

Fully agree. He reached the semifinal in almost every tournament that year. But 2012 was the absolute top notch year in tennis, so he "only" got one major and a few other tournaments.

@@ferguson7128 2012 was peak big 4 year, they all won that year, Djokovic 4 consecutive major win, Rafa is always rafa, dominating the clay, Federer was in his twilight here but he won wimby, and was almost yr end #1, andy muraay break through and reach many finals. i love 2012

Racquet change made his backhand less vulnerable but reduced his range of shots especially his forehand because less potent but you've got to factor his age as well

I really miss Federer's style of game. His net game is just superb. Look at the volleys of the likes of Zverev and Medvedev or the other Top 10 players, they are atrocious in comparison. You can see that these new guys did not grow up playing the net, there is an inherent sense of insecurity whenever they play a more difficult volley. It is a shame.

Cincinnati 2012 and 2015 were near flawless title wins from Federer. And surprising too after a few week's break from devastating losses in his previous tournaments in both years.

I maybe wrong but i think by winning wimbledon in 2012 Federer had taken the no. 1 ranking and going into this final was ranked 1 , not djokovic as the video suggests.

Federer had a better forehand when he played with the 90 inch racket. His backhand was better with the 97 inch racket. As time went on and players hit more and more topspin the ball became a harder target. When that happened the 97 inch racket helped, but he did lose some accuracy.

A one-handed backhand seems more difficult because it seems harder to time. It looks like it has less power as well. Perhaps not because you can twist your body more than with the two-handed one.

Why doesn't Fed repeat the same strategy he used to win here in other tournaments? He was very strong and aggressive on both backhand and Forehand. I'm not seeing him slice as much. Taking the ball early, no shanks.

Djokovic did improve but his rivals also got older or got injured, the only thing i see that really change from early 2010 djokovic is his forehand, he added the slice forehand it literally is the most annoying shot in his kit as of now for me, opponent hit great shot djokovic slide to forehand corner with a slice often giving it air so he has time to recover, if they tried to approach they will get pass cus most players sucks at net these day, if they stay back then djokovic regain balance and time and the point is neutral again.
