I was at the 02 Arena during this match. I had a ticket for the semis but unfortanely it turned out to be the Novak vs Nishikori match. It sucked to be in the 02 and not to be able to see the match. I reminded myself that I had a ticket for the final. In the hotel I listened to the match on the TV radio channel hoping Federer would pull through and was thrilled when he did. Then the following day I was having pizza with a friend in the arena when it came over the speaker system that Federer had pulled out of the match due to back injury. I worried that I'd never get the chance to see him but I ended up seeing him in the final the following year, in Glasgow at Murray live and in the first round of Wimbledon 2019.

Federer's forehand looked vulnerable here, like a lot of times after 2010. In his prime he was able to fire winners or hit it deep of that side, even if he was not playing well. I think he decided to hit it with too much spin at a certain point.

That was one match where wawrinka should have won this match. It felt like he was in a control the whole match while Federer was barely hanging on. Mind you, people were still upset about this, so don't let recency bias cloud your judgement. Responding to the Mirka comments: I still find it VERY hard to believe Mirka wud do anything like this. How many matches have we seen her courtside; how many important matches have Rog & Stan contested; when have we EVER in hours & hours & hours of play, seen or heard of Mirka reacting or saying anything to an opponent or their team- not even Djoko's family at their most obnoxious. She barely moves, is always on her phone, and has eyes only on Roger. Why on earth would she do so here against a fellow Swiss and Roger's close friend. I dont believe it was her. It came from Roger's box for sure, but I very much doubt it was Mirka & that is no doubt why Roger had a go later- like Stan shud hv known better. Just my opinion after years of watching Mirka and reading nothing but praise about her - she is not rude/impolite. We will never know of course, but I read soon after that it was the nanny or whoever who was seated behind Mirka who actually called out.
