let’s give it up to BRANDON TSAY who saved so many that night!!! RIP to the victims and God Bless their families

Can we finally say “Let’s go Brandon” and have it genuinely mean something sincere, supportive, and congratulatory? Brandon Tsay is a brave and awesome guy. I wish him, the victims, and their families well in their long recovery from this trauma.
@condorX2
@condorX2 Год назад
Brandon didn't subdued him. "The shooter is 72-year-old Huu Can Tran. At one point they were looking for an Asian male 30-50 years old. This is all such a tragic mess that didn't have to happen. If a 72 year old didn't have access to guns, he sure as hell wouldn't have killed 10 people with his fists," wrote another. This is the 5th Mass Murder and the 33rd Mass Shooting of the year," tweeted a user.

@@tednguyen7258 most likely Chinese Viet which is also my family's background. The 626 area is heavily populated with Chinese from Vietnam who fled during the war, and it's very common for them to adopt Viet transliterations of their Chinese names. So Chan/Chen would be Tran for example. The ballroom dancing community there is by far and large of Chinese descent (my family friend is part of it and she and her husband were actually the main couple in the doc short "Walk Run Cha Cha), which he was involved in at one point. As to why they say he's a Chinese immigrant? Could be that he left Vietnam to study in China and later moved to the US (eg my family friend left Vietnam to study in Taiwan and lived there several years before moving to 626, hence she has dual Taiwanese/US citizenship despite being born in Vietnam). Could also be a clerical error as the US govt was very lax about checking paperwork back then, and some uneducated white boi govt official mistook his Chinese heritage as meaning he was born in China (eg my aunt, despite being born in Vietnam, is listed as born in China on her US passport, the US govt couldn't put in two shits of effort to better parse that info out lol). Highly unlikely he's ethnic Viet who is from China, there's not that many of them, and even less likely those ethnic Viets would move here as China was not the one besieged by war at the time. There was little reason for them to flee compared to the refugees from war-torn Vietnam.

I bet many businesses now will be looking up California's Castle Doctrine. Believe me, it's not only in the United States. When I was stationed in the Far East during that "conflict", a contract on a person only cost $5 and the police only investigated for a week before dropping the case. Couldn't go out to some areas bc the the local gangs would trip and hit me up.... Since they couldn't figure whether I was Mexican or Asian. --- it wasn't too long ago. If you ask older LA natives, they still have that stereotype of various areas of the 626 being dangerous. --- This might hit different bc it's an dude in his 70's though... The guy that chose to intervene is a hero. He may not have prevented the massacre, but he likely saved many lives that would otherwise have been taken. But in terms of the typical age profile of mass shooters, someone at that age committing such an atrocity is extremely rare. It's normally a teen to 25-year-old disturbed male that feels resentful with life and wants an outlet to make a name for themselves. And given the CNY festivities, the perpetrator likely orchestrated this well in advance.

in the hmong community we have similar but different incidences. but often very common in tradgey. i’m referring to family suicide. often it’s a parent who has most of their problems tied to their partner and tied to their family. from what trends say it’s often violence directed at the partner first, and then trickles down to surviving family members as a list of people before the perpetrator ends their own life. there’s been a few in the last few years i the hmong community. but from what i know, this has happened as early as 2-3 decades ago. turned out my moms brother had a family, went wild and ended everyone in his family at home except for a daughter and a son who was in the military not home during the incident. he went back home to burry everyone but his youngest sister. never got to meet them as far as i know. but yeah… asians do things different than others from what i see

there needs to be more done when it comes to mental illness when it comes to the asian communities and in every other community. i lost a few of my asian friends that were mentally ill. the brother of one of the guys that died told me that his father didn't believe in mental help or dealing with his sons depression. i get people want act strong but if someone is hurting they need to be able to get help without being judged. it's sad that these people had to lose their lives by a totally senseless act of violence. the only way to get gun laws in place is by dealing with the nra and voting out any and all politicians that don't want to do anything about the gun laws. the nra and many of the politicians on the right are pushing for more guns to be put out there and it's disgusting.

Some of the strictest gun laws were in place… the dude still got a hold of them. Also one thing to consider… now more than ever people are seeing therapists and psychiatrists, and taking medication to treat mental conditions….People weren’t doing that in the 50s and 60s, and people had a higher gun ownership rate back then… but mass shootings were non existent…. There is something else going on in this country… I can’t really put my finger on it, I have a feeling it has a lot to do with over prescription of meds…

The police have yet to find the “motive.” Someone thinks it’s because he didn’t get an invite to the Lunar New Year party.

To define a new year's day, first we need to define the calendar. It's not a lunar calendar, it's the Chinese Agricultural Calendar (CAC), Aka Chinese traditional calendar, which is both a lunar and solar calendar. We call it 农历 or 旧历 in Chinese. CAC is the one that has been used for thousands of years. Western calendar was introduced to China only 200 years ago. We still use CAC in China, many national holiday date is determined by CAC, like 中秋,端午,重阳,春节,七夕,冬至. For the Chinese New Year, the lunar side of the calendar determines that this day happens on a new moon day, the solar side of the calendar determines that this day will roughly mark the beginning of spring, which is why it always happens in late January or early February, and that's why it's also called Spring Festival in China. In CAC, one year is divided into 24 portions in relation to the climate. The common thing about Japan, Korea, Vietnam is they all used Chinese as their writing language for more than a thousand years. Korea and Vietnam invented their own writing system in the last 200 years. Japan gradually developed their own language but they still use a lot of Chinese characters (Kanji). The traditional culture of Korea and Vietnam was from China. I don't think Korean still use traditional calendar, they celebrate the New Year from China just like they also celebrate Christmas from Western culture.

Yes and No. Partially due to his mental health, but you also got to look at the social politics of which he was a part of. Gossip bullying, ridicule, just what was going on between him and the instructors? Including the owners? What about the de-escalation from management to protect their patrons by reporting him to police or having some kind of intervention to address the "friction" that was spoken about. If he was causing problems there, like giving free lessons, how did that bear on the other instructors who were charging? Look around you, there are ticking time bombs walking behind you and to your left and right everyday. Practice diplomacy and put on that kind face, it just may save your life.

But also, actually show people some real love, because everyone is worthy of love and respect, especially the “unlovable”. People see through the kind face and it really doesn’t help

I think this mass shooting is stunning because it's Asian on Asian. Virginia Tech mass shooting (2007) was perpetrated by an Asian. You guys are right, there is mental disability in every culture. Another reason for humanity to pull together. Rest in peace to all the victims. God bless you guys for not shying away from the topic. We need to talk.

There needs to be tougher gun laws and loopholes that criminals like Huu Can Tran used to obtain illegal guns. The requirements aren’t as tough as buying from a store, if you buy a gun online, at a gun show, and someone could easily go out of state to Nevada. We need registration of gun ownership and must meet criminal background checks and mental health criteria to own a gun. Gun owners should carry insurance like drivers do.
