I genuinely feel sorry for Dawn, he is now labeled as Hyuna's boyfriend and nothing more. P Nation did nothing to help this situation. Hyuna promotions was always rushed imo, I feel like Jessi was the only one who got decent promotions under that company and even her promotions was still lacking

Agree but jessi got decent promotion because she stand out a lot. She’s sassy, speaks English, and doesn’t try to fit korean beauty standards, add that she’s very active on social medias and try to be funny, so it’s not like it’s her company that successfully managed her.

Who's fault is it that Dawn isn't known under his own name?? His own, if only they did what the damn contract told them to do Dawn would be making actual good music with his old members that would more than likely be hits and so would Hyuna. Tho Hyuna is quite popular her music is not as good now that she was kicked out of her old company she doesn't know how to do music by herself, had she and Dawn not gon against their contracts (that literally EVERY kpop idol has too agree too..) they probably would have learned to actually promote and create good music on their own like almost every other kpop idol. They dug their own grave. They were doing great in their groups but nope as soon as they rose to fame they crashed right back down. You can't blame psy** for their mistakes.

I think that artists like Jessi or Hyuna and Dawn need to create their own label like Jay Park or Jackson. They are « grown » enough and established very well in the industry so they can be independent. Plus, I feel that Jessi wants to try to be more diverse and be an entrepreneur. She’s launching her beauty brand soon.
@Just999Me

I could see that but there are also a lot of other labels owned by artists like Jay Park, Jackson or Hyorin. It's hard to maintain an entertainment company while you are also one of the main artists. Sometimes it's more cost effective to be under another artist's small indepedent company than your own. Overhead costs are no joke.

as great of a person and as talented a performer he is, it doesn't necessarily translate well into leadership/promotion. I don't doubt that jessi, hyuna and dawn had a difficult time making their decisions because they all seem to get on well with psy, but I think this is another case of boundaries not being properly set up. it's not always the best decision to get into business with friends. hopefully they all learn from the situation and are successful going forward with the knowledge they've gained. I think that some creative freedom is nice for singers, but in some cases some artists can lose fans or fame, might not know which concepts or songs suit them, might not know how to write songs that flow nicely and might ruin their image, since they didn't have creative freedom before, there is a limit to it I suppose. Jessi also wanted to take time for herself. Psy allowed them to be themselves in important ways others wouldn't while doing their musical career. People say Psy influenced them but he's also their colleague and friend..im sure he influenced that way and if they push back he won't be rigid on decisions necessarily. People say their music changed but it sounds like them to me, just like they finally could try different things as well. They're known for wanting to try different things. I feel like the biggest problem is that PSY is an active artist as well. He's a musician with a very unique and distinguishable style that sets him apart from other solo artists. However his biggest flaw is his stylistic choices are TOO strong. He wants his artists to also encapsulate his style and taste, which in turn comes out as controlling and restricting for his artists. Not every artist wants to be like PSY and not every artist will shine with his style. He signed many already established musicians, they're obviously going to already have a style they prefer. I can see why this would cause a lot of internal conflicts with him and his artists.

PNATION is still a pretty new company, and still looking for its own path ! These things takes years ! They're not as established as Jyp or hybe, with 50 different groups so you should keep that in mind. So to say that PNATION is going downhill just for loosing 3 artists is kinda mean. From one of the most promising companies, to one of the most disappointing ones so far, not the best but not the worst. Edit: I would just like to clarify that I never stanned the company when Hyuna and E'Dawn joined, if anything, I was just glad the the two are still able to be idols, but on the other hand, I was a bit suspicious bcuz, hey, it's a KPop Company and we _all_ know the stories that highlight or rather shed light onto the actual worst ones. All I'm saying is, PNation, isn't the worst company per se, but, I do agree that they do indeed need to put on a bit more effort into promoting their artists, as well as allowing them to have full creative control on what they're comebacks are supposed to look, feel, and sound like. In an interest of full disclosure, I'm not one of those people who "begged" Pristin to be part of PNation, however I have so many thoughts to unpack abt this discourse or discussion. Firstly, I do believe that transfering from one company to another is indeed lengthy process, especially for a group like Pristin that has _so many members_ , 10 to be exact. Secondly, I do agree to the idea or belief that many of the members were ready to move on and that their goals no longer aligned with the others who did not terminate their contracts w/Pledis. So, essentially, I was not putting my faith into PNation to "take care" of Pristin, simply because I just wanted to respect Pristin, and not do otherwise by just egging them to join a different company to pursue their dreams. With that said, we should also respect Hyuna, E'Dawn, and Jessi decision for leaving the company, because we may never know the real reasons why they left, and all that's left to do is pray/wish/hope for the best of them.

It’s just crazy how quickly Pnation fell,, it truly felt like a utopia had been created for mistreated/mismanaged idols but I agree with everything in this video! The fact that Jessi was the first artist signed and never got a full album or even physical sales of her mini album was horrible! Dawn all but disappeared after joining and only had one digital mini album that was barely promoted. As for the other artists, specifically Heize, I didn’t even know she had released a new album until I randomly came across the mv on RU-vid! Not to mention the whole 12 year old idol, like cmon how could anyone have thought that was an ethical thing to do to a child? The industry needs to set a an age requirement to avoid this, at least 16 for god’s sake (although personally I think 18 would be better) On another note, I bought Hyuna’s album and was so disappointed by the packaging - it came with a photo book (if you could call it that) with like 50 loose pictures of her, a poster, and the lyric book. I know not every company packs the albums full of goodies but this was just sad, especially for a powerhouse like Hyuna. It just feels like Pnation just keeps falling short with everything.

The reason why people loved pnation so much in the first place was bc they do treat their artists well and as human beings. They had alot of freedom in terms of how they present themselves. He took in hyuna & dawn when no one else wanted them just bc they were an idol couple. And also jessi who is alot to handle with her free spirited mindset in the conservative kpop world. The issue is the management, the promotion and the fact they didnt get the creative freedom they deserve & probably expected. Psy turned out to be very controlling when it comes to music and has that mindset of "I know what to do to make you more famous bc this worked for me" he's playing the power card bc he has been in the industry for so long. Going down the road of jyp, who was also very controlling over the music that got released. Everything had to be done the way he wanted it to. Thats why so much of got7's self produced music got rejected. Even day6 who write all of their music themselves still cant release every song they want and they need to be approved first and ultimately the company decided what was put on the album. Its similar here, jessi for example still loves psy, they get along well but when it comes to music they have such different opinions & views. He didnt let jessi release what she wanted. He didnt even give her a full album in all those years. Like yeah she did well with her releases and they were all hits but if jessi isnt completely happy with it them it makes sense, she need to think about whats more important to her and in the end she'd probably rather release her own stuff and what she really wants to put out instead of being given songs just bc the chance of them being successful is high. Psy is a great guy, he definitely knows how to spot talent and he is am amazing producer. Its just he took artists in that already were in the industry for quite a long time and he certainly was too controlling and didn't trust them enough with their music, he couldn't compromise at all and only did what he thought was the right thing to do. Pnation is still quite new and they have to establish themselves and I think they'll be completely fine with new groups/new artists. Like neither hyuna or dawn nor jessi hate psy and none of them said that pnation is a bad company, its just musical differences and wanting different things for their career. I think psy also has to learn alot about being a CEO still, and he either needs to learn to trust his artists more or he'll just continue being a very controlling producer/ceo. They do need to work on their management & promotion tho, bc none of them got promoted how they deserved it. No full albums or physical releases or bad album packaging/no photocards etc.. its really sad.

There are differences between Pnation and JYP. Psy or Pnation took Jessy, Hyuna, and Dawn who already has their own unique styles, creativity, connections, and big fanbases to his agency and he thought he could control their style and make them more like his style. But JYP didn't do that. He created the artists. JYP trained Got7, SKZ, day6 to make their own music before they knew they could make it. All of the boys were raw artist when they were young. But JYP gave them a lot knowledges and understanding about their own talent, so they actually shined on their peak days. Well Got7 already has their own style so that was why they left agency with much better album and music. Their freedom and creativity still shine and on point even without company. If Psy want to put control on his artists, he could make new artists like now.

I'm really waiting for all the new things to come for Hyuna, Down and Jessi. They will do amazing!... As for the claims of poor management, I think it is normal to happen, remember P nation is a small company and a very new one. If bigger companies still have issues with management imagine a company like p nation. I wish that they learn how to manage well and give their artist a bit more of freedom.

I agree with poor management. They need more staff with related key aspect experience (like if they lack in organizing promos and scheds or foreseeing their events to ensure safety or having more opinions on which songs to release) to cater to different needs of their artists, the company and the staff themselves. Their next moves are surely important. Especially when they still have talented artists which probably relies on their decisions too

Listen….i get it but in all honesty you shouldn’t expect full control of your work when you sign to a big company it’s business at the end of the day they have people to pay and a company to run and it depends on the artist’s work and lets be honest everything jessi did under pnation was successful so we can not say that psy wasn’t right about the decision I don’t think it’s a good idea for any company to give artists complete control of their work from the beginning it happens everywhere in the entertainment industry for the first few years artists have to work with a whole team of people who studied and know the business to get them on top and secure their spot and also artists can not sign under a company without a contract and that contract always has points about this kind of stuff so i don’t really understand when fans complain about it, the artist themselves are just as responsible they willingly signed the contract you can’t always blame the company and staff they have bills to pay and it depends on the artist

I'm so sad Dawn wasted more than 3 years just to be known as Hyuna's boyfriend. Even when their relationship was revealed he didn't get that nickname. in first time he signed with pnation. i am very grateful to pnation for giving a place to dawn and psy said proudly that hyuna and dawn will be rivals and be professional in their careers. But pnation gave up quickly and gave hyuna 1000% responsibility to promote Dawn. Hyuna has power and every time her name was mentioned , she is always get attention. Dawn got a lot of attention because of that but his image changed to Hyuna's boyfriend. I don't blame Hyuna because this also has a big impact on her career. now they are like 1 pack. And that's sad. hyuna and dawn have different colors and styles of music but they always try to match each other. pnation made them only known as a couple. And I'm very grateful that they came out from that agency.I hope that Hyuna and Dawn will be more firm in their careers so that the couple's image will fade. Hyuna and dawn are now rarely seen posting photos together. I think that's why they left the pnation because they wanted to change their image

I know the video says he's talented, but he does not have a voice, so I don't believe he would have made it out anywhere as a solo artist. For Jessi... This is actually sad to hear that she never got to have the last word in terms of creativity. After Nununana, all the hits were similar (and I enjoyed them all) but she can showcase much more, it's sad the company was not able to give us that. I'm waiting to see what the boys group will give, this will be the first time they have to launch an artist, so that's when we'll be able to see if they can give quality.

Dawn and Hyuna can easily do their own things but this might give them the opportunity to finally get married and focus on themselves. Jessi is an icon in the tradition of Legends like Yoon Mi-Rae. They were sisters in arms in Up-Town after all. Yoon took Jessi in when she was only 15 & were like sisters. There is a reason why Jessi is so damn good here. When you are raised by the best so to speak you will be the best. Jessi can start her own label if she wants. However she clearly isn't really for that yet. She has as much admitted she will be back which I have no doubt here. However I don't think Jessi will ever be happy. She is tremendously talented but headstrong & that has kept her from achieving her goals. I am not sure anyone will provide her the freedom she wants. It’s why a lot of these artist sound the same over here. Because it’s what makes the company money. They are the people who set the trends. N the artist gotta comply because their under a contract. all I can say is that ONLY when you're physically in that position, you will then realize how difficult it is to handle what's expected of you WITH that position. Being a CEO of an agency is nothing like an artist of that agency, and vice versa. A CEO plans the long term strategies of the company, and he WILL be responsible for the success OR failure of the company. And to make things even more complicated, if there are shareholders in that company, he is answerable to those shareholders. Also, by the end of every month, he has to make sure that there is enough cash flow in the bank so that the employees WILL get their paycheck on time. With all these responsibilities under a CEO's belt, I DO NOT believe that he can give the artists 100% freedom to do what they want. It's perfectly normal for a CEO to share his concerns with the music direction the artists are doing, the way they dress, etc etc. And this will happen more frequently with small companies like PNATION, especially when the CEO himself IS a musician. The narrator mentioned briefly about Jessi opening her own label...well ...if that happens, let's see what she will do in terms of managing an agency.

Honestly (as someone who lives and works in Korea), this is Korea is a nutshell. There are always a ton of promises and excited talk about the future, and things fall short due to lack of planning, bosses being hyper-controlling (don't listen to your input at all), and a lack of knowledge on how to really run a business/company.

Wish he'd let them have more say, I think they'd come up with music that suits them much more. I didn't really like Dawn's few songs, or Hyuna's nabilera release, ping-pong has to grow on me. I miss Hyuna's Red days...

Psy seems to be an amazing person but also keep in mind that a good leader needs to be able to take criticism and meet eye to eye with his people so everyone can stay happy and on the same page. There’s no “I” in “TEAM”.

if you think jessi, hyuna, and dawn got the short end of the deal in terms of production and promotion. wait until you realize heize is a part of pnation as well.

when it comes to promotion, many artists don't appear on music shows cuz they gotta apply and most of the time, a lot of them don't even get selected

@@aven9866 that's true too tho :( but still would being kicked out from cube somehow impact that? idk. I'm not saying pnation is not at fault cuz they def are. their artists are all leaving one by one. their new bg is left behind too

I expected him to let artists like Jessi, Dawn and Hyuna have control over their music. Such like a sub-labels and what not in P-nation. very disappointed

Jessi, Dawn, Hyuna and PSY made this label so exciting - sorry to hear it didn't work out :(

Running an agency is still business; another set skills that will run you dry if you do not have the proper funds, business skills, and right knowledge people working for you. It goes both ways actually. Are they an asset of a liability atm for PNation. How much are they bringing in versus being invested on…
