I watched this concert in my good friend's back yard. We had a projector and speakers and most of their neighbourhood came over. We all had beers and arms around each other's shoulders in celebration and to keep each other together.

Too bad video was blocked. However, the memory of this performance is so engraved in my conscience that my mind's eye replayed the images in my head while watching your reaction. A very emotional night for many.

Canadians and Canadian businesses *Coast to Coast* paused their daily lives to watch, listen and honour Gord via this final simulcast concert. I'm not a huge Hip fan but was extremely proud to be part of our Canadian culture that day. Life's Short so grateful to have experienced live rock concerts in 80's and 90's like: *The Tragically Hip / Midnight Oil* 1993 *Another Roadside Attraction* at (ironically) Western Speedway Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

I was part of the third of Canada that watched the last concert. Gord Downie received an eagle feather for his work in trying to assist and bring light to the atrocities that happened to the indigenous peoples. To receive that feather is a high honour. To receive the Order of Canada is also a high honour. It would be the same as being knighted if they were English. Rush also were inducted into the order of Canada, not only for their music but also for their charity work. Thanks Todd ❤

There is a documentary called Long Time Running that follows the band from Gord's diagnosis through the final show. It's a look at what went on to keep it together during that tour.

I saw them in concert in 2000 and when they opened for The Rolling Stones in my hometown in 2005. Watching the concert in 2016 on tv was the hardest and the best concert. He went against doctor's advice to do that tour. The documentary documents things they did to accommodate him and make it easier for him on tour.

We were travelling around Northern Ontario when this concert aired on C.B.C. I made a point to make sure we stayed in a motel with access to the show so we could watch it. Unforgettable concert, Gord and the band were so amazing, guess you could say most of Canada stopped that day, and stopped again at hearing the news of Gord's passing. Thanks for this.

Even though the video was blocked I got all misty eyed. I watched this whole broadcast live and it was great. Mixed really well considering it was live TV. And the Canadian music reaction channel cracks me up. Maybe us Canadians need to put our heads together for more suggestions. How about The Tea Party? Maybe more Crown Lands? 😂

Not Gord's best vocal performance, but that wasn't important given the circumstances. Also, this was at the end of something like 3 hours of performing... with brain cancer, no less. This was a very emotional event in Canadian history, a countrywide lovefest where we showed our love for our friend Gord, and he showed his love for us. Ahead By A Century feels like a coming of age song, it makes me very nostalgic. It's probably my favourite of theirs, because it was _my_ first Hip song and video (I was 13 when it was released).

The Hip were such an important band, their music & Gord's words talked not only to canadians, but to everyone. We lost an icon the day Gord died. And to top it off, just recently, we also lost another front man to cancer, Karl Tremblay, the Cowboys Fringants' singer. Like the Hip, they sang people's lives, hopes and deceptions. In less than 10 years, Canada suffered two great blows. RIP Gord and Karl.

I came to The Hip rather late in their career, but not because I did not like their music. I was in one of my jazz phase and was not paying a lot attention outside of that when they came along. Still, I heard them on the radio a lot (CBC radio is where you go if you want to hear jazz in Canada, but as a publicly funded broadcaster they have a mandate to promote up and coming Canadian performers. I think I heard them first on stodgy old CBC). It took a live performance to really turn me on to them though. They are just one of those bands you have to see live before you get it. Everything they are shines through when they are in front of an audience: a rough around the edges sound (my favourite thing about them, you can tell they are exactly where they want to be that night (they never phoned it in), and Downey's lyrics which never held anything back.

One more thing: the reason I decided to mostly recommend official videos, with just a sprinkling of live performances, is that I didn't want to spoil JPan's opportunity to experience One Night in Toronto (and maybe also the recent Live at the Roxy LP, which was recorded in 1991 but released in 2022) some day. I also thought hearing the studio tracks first would provide better context, given the creative and sometimes unpredictable nature of Gord's performance of Hip songs. My intuition seems to have been borne out in his reaction to Nautical Disaster live. With Justin's patient indulgence, I took him up on his July special (six songs for $100), which I only noticed last night. I used it to recommend another Hip six-pack!

Perhaps surprisingly, I wasn't one of the third of Canadians watching that evening, because we had tickets to see Blue Rodeo at the Molson Amphitheatre down on Toronto's lakeshore. Being long-time, professional friends of the guys in the Hip, the guys in Blue Rodeo frequently mentioned Gord and the Hip that evening. They even did a Hip cover. The song was Bobcaygeon. I managed to record it with my phone, although the videography is lamentable. Some of that can be attributed to the fact that I had to hold the device high above my head to get a clear view of the stage. I can't provide a link to it, however, as I've just learned the hard way that RU-vid vaporizes comments with links in them. The video has over 60,000 views though, so you might want to take a look. Just search "bobcaygeon blue rodeo" and it will be there (currently second after a video of Jim Cuddy signing it in a studio).
