Djinn are the origin of the western idea of Genies. Its an Arabic originating mythical creature.

The plural of "djinn" is "djinni", so it was really just transliteration and then not understanding that it was already plural. Oh, and then wrapping tons of otherwise unrelated things into the myth. You know, as you do.

Great episode! The Ten Rings easter egg was a nice touch. Mentioning Dr. Erik Selvig was a terrific addition. Kamran's mom is quite intense. Been a fan of Bon Jovi since '87. Kamala vs. The Clandestine was epic. And the dancing in the episode was fantastic!

Djinn are a variety of different kinds of spirits from pre-Islamic Arabia. In Islam, they were codified a bit more and are a third type of supernatural being kind of between angels and demons. All three are created from fire...angels from the light, demons from the flame, and djinn from the smoke. Because of their nature, they are considered tricksters, but aren't necessarily inclined towards good or evil...they can go either way.

They did a really nice job of portraying Islam in this. Especially that imam, he is a really needed character

Totally agree. And I'll add that I've been to several Muslim weddings, and actually that looks like quite a small one!

I feel like this show portrays them as being overly progressive and lacking in conviction. It's like they keep the fun aspects of culture but compromise beliefs on the alter of political correctness. Maybe I'm off in my perception, but that's the impression the show gives me.

@@MattPerk7 people vary, even within a single faith group. there are a number of americans who relate to the portrayal here. you're welcome to seek more and different representation elsewhere. and the word is "altar".

I am going to assume most parents would prefer their teenager not to have super powers and have to fight super villans alone. We need to show parents respect and understanding. In the Marvel universe 😆
