@@jamesoneill2933 I am saying that if the Nazis had been able to reach Ireland, the resulting warfare would be more akin to that seen in WW2 , more along the lines of all-out War, with a far greater death toll in a much shorter time.

Very true. I used to work with a guy who hated the British and was a staunch supporter of the IRA. He's American, never even lived in Ireland. Got all of his stories from his Irish grandmother. He'd rather see the Catholics and Protestants go back to war. But I'd be damned to see him over there fighting with the IRA in Ireland...

O also read part of sean McKenna's ( of the 1980 hunger strike ) memoirs if that's the right way to describe it of his own activities in the 1970s and he was very active around the armagh border area. Anyway at one point when he was on the run and on the south side of the border he was picked up by plain clothes soldiers and kidnapped, taken over the border and handed over to the cops. He said that in republican mythology it had become accepted knowledge that nairac was part of that team but McKenna wanted to set the record straight by saying that he never saw Nairac

If you're a Remainer I don't think you'd support Leave if some loyalists threatened to kill someone if they didn't get Brexit. The Good Friday Agreement lets the UK and ROI govts, and not the cross-border institutions, retain control over such things as tariffs and movement of people because those matters are not devolved. And the principle of consent means Irish nationalists should accept that they do not have a veto over the UK's foreign policy, such as whether it is in the EU, even if they want one. This continues for as long as NI is in the UK and changing that requires the consent of the majority.
