The Truck Market Just DIED! We're Tired Of Being RIPPED OFF

The truck market is off to a rough start in 2024. Ford dealers are still overflowing with 2023 f150 trucks. Ram trucks are up to 20% off. Toyota prices are going up and Chevy & GM dealers have huge discounts.
Truck prices are out of control and this year the CEOs of Ford & GM are raising prices even higher.
And despite steep discounts in December and a boost in sales, many dealers are still flooded with expensicve 2023 year model trucks.

At least Toyota and Honda. They build reliability in. I used to take my 1997 SVT Cobra to have a master mechanic do work at the Ford dealership. They kept all their good mechanics by letting them use their bay to do side work. This kept the regular mechanics to do book jobs, to spread the money around. One day I pulled up and Roy was putting a part in a box, to ship it off. Pulling a part right out of an engine. I thought that was strange so I asked him, why are you boxing it? He said, " this part never used to fail. Now Ford want me to ship parts to them so THEY CAN ENGINEER IT TO FAIL AT 120K miles." He said "think about it. Ford could make the most reliable engine on the planet, but they want failure for 2 reasons. 1) resale on parts and service. 2) buy another vehicle. After that, I noticed that when I went to the parts department thay were crazy busy! I asked the parts manager, " man, you guys are crazy busy, what's the deal?" He actually said, " We make more in parts and service than new and used car sales." Think about this for a minute...!

Yeah the host of this channel doesn’t seem to understand supply and demand very well. Prices will come down to “normal” again when suit and tie lifetime city dwellers stop thinking they need a Raptor to get laid in Chicago and LA and are willing to pay $110k to do so. Back in the 90s “when trucks were affordable and reliable” SUVs were all the rage and had all the markup while bedded trucks were still reasonable. Then we started a 20+ year war and suddenly all these non-serving soy boys decided they needed to do something to “look like a man” so they started running out and buying brand new pickup trucks that don’t have a scratch in the bed and growing out operator beards and 20 years later here we are - a new fairly base model F-150 will run you $65k and instead of auto manufacturers focusing on reducing prices for traditional trucks they’re all focused on developing more expensive and less reliable battery-powered toy trucks that nobody wants but the government says we have to have.

It's not just the pricing. The interest rates now a days are sickening. My 21 Ram is financed at 2.9% but to upgrade to a 2500 I would be looking at 10+% interest. That's insane to me, especially when I have a boat at 5%
@spiritedgarage

Those interest rates are there to try to bring down prices. The idea is, if people find it hard to pay for these expensive things, then supposedly prices will come down to meet where the customer can afford. But companies have been holding out just hoping for some sucker to pay full price.

My limit for a 1/2 ton truck is about $40k 4x4 is about the only thing that is not negotiable, but otherwise basic trim is totally fine. I really don't get any practical value out of a $30k interior and $15k in trim, wheels, exhaust tips etc.

When I was young trucks were used for working. But in the last few decades it became popular to have four doors, backseats, and a small bed so pickups could be used as sedans. Gas prices have receded for now but people have learned that using pickups as sedans is a huge waste of their money. They are moving away from owning pickups, especially if they never need one. The carmakers are adjusting to that by making small pickups. Forget the vehicle prices, the days of using large pickups as sedans is over because of gas prices.

A lot of good comments below on those sticker prices. Great video! A little off topic, but human nature observation, at my gym there is one row of easy function treadmills; and one row of treadmills where the screen looks like a Microsoft desktop. The row of easy function treadmills is always busy. The complicated row barely gets used.

Good having you back in Boise again! On the Chevy trucks you should call out the motor size, of either the 5.3 or 6.2. When I bought my loaded Ram Limited in 2021, I first went to Peterson Chevy as they gave us $10,000 off a loaded 2020 Traverse Redline Edition Premier model. They had about a dozen nice loaded Silverado's, but not a 6.2 on the lot, nor at any Chevy dealership in the Tresure Valley, so I got a killer deal on a nice Ram instead.

I think the amount of electronics and the engineering needed to repair any of the current vehicles out there, the prices are still way too high. I would only consider buying something with plastic engine parts if the price were cut in half AND if the replacement parts were cheaper. We need to start asking the sales person how much a replacement alternator will cost us before agreeing to buy a vehicle. I would also demand a way to wipe data stored in the vehicle after it downloads my data from my phone.

I couldn’t believe it . Who’s gonna pay close to 100k for just an F150!?!? Espically when in like 3/4 years it will probably only be worth 30/40ish if it’s decently taken care of . Bought a ‘22 Ford F-350 from the factory in 2022 for $75k out the door (at MSRP - best deal I could find). I was at the dealer for some routine service a few weeks ago and a ‘24 350 with an almost identical build-out was listed at $92k before TTL and warranty. Dealer told me they weren’t doing much negotiation either. The cost was already insane 2 years ago and I wouldn’t have bought my truck if I didn’t need that specific build. I have come to the conclusion that Myself and the people watching these videos are the outliers. I make pretty good money but there is no way I am going to spend 70k plus on a truck. Its just a tool to me. But for others its a status symbol. As the grills reach sizes that are larger than they were on 1970s mack trucks..... so do the payments.... and Americans love em. To each there own I guess. For me they are just tools. I like a nice restored classic truck, but just something you drive off the lot that everyone else is driving..... no pride in that for me. So Im just not going to buy one because people must still be buying them and prices arent going to come down.

Trucks are basically made for working people. People who need to carry material to and from work sites. Working people, for the most part, have been priced out of buying a brand new truck.
