Hi Sarah, Here in the UK we call it the biting point when the clutch starts to engage, I got a little confused when you said clutch release point also the rubber around the clutch release leave has probably swollen due to being soaked in oil and brake fluid over the years. Be sure to spray intake manifold bolts with BLASTER penetrant or some type of nut buster fluid. Broke bolts on my intake to be able to change the valve cover gaskets.

On Automatic Fluid in manual, was once assigned a truck, circa 1965 Dodge D100 (I think) that used ATF in the transmission. The beast was a worn out fire patrol unit, geared low so the engine screamed at 45, but in creep it would go and place although it was 4x2.

Sarah been watching your channel sonce you first purchased Mr dos. And must say that your channel and content ate always great. As far as your sisters Exterra goes im loving the content. Did this exact job on a 1 of 700 high compression 1993 Dodge Stealth about a week ago. Replaced the master cylinder and then bleed the air out and filled the lines with fluid. Took a while but dang, when it was done, that beast could run!

Sarah, you don't have OCD. OCD means you repeat an action multiple times in quick succession and you can't control it (like turning the doorknob 3 times before opening the door). You have CSTADS (Can't Stand Touching Anything Dirty Syndrome). That's actually not a bad thing, and lends towards your desire to keep things clean.

Little Tip and Note @Sarah a LOT of Manual Transmissions Now come with ATF in them. Honda and Chevy use a Special Atf in their Manuals

Ugh, I used to hate working on my 1st gen Xterra. There's no space! When replacing the front main seal on these, it is really easy to score the metal around the seal. It is also pretty easy to cross thread and overtorque the power steering pump bolts. Be careful of the AC lines in general, they are fragile and always in the way. Some people say to use the thicker radiotor made for the supercharged versions on the NA version. In my experience, this can cause you to run too cool without running a different thermostat. For non-supercharged Xterras, just use the factory non-supercharged radiator. Finally, these tend to have rear main seal issues.

Ok we are back on track, that funnel mix up was funny. 🤣

Pro tip: bench bleed your master and slave cylinders before you install it then vacuum bleed just the line. It is almost impossible to get all the air out of the cylinder when it's installed. When you bench bleed it first you only need to pop the bleed screw once as a double check. Much easier and cleaner and less potential for striping out the bleed screw. Been there, done that and it blows.

Your sister's a badass for picking up manual driving so fast. I imagine it's a bit easier if you already know how to drive first but still badass.

Sarah, I noticed the torsion bar on the passenger side looks like a lot of spline is showing at the front mount point. PLEASE check both sides to see if they need to be pushed forward. Love your videos.

ATF in a manual transmission. Some manual transmissions do take ATF. I have a 2001 Ford Ranger and that is one of the things I like about that generation of Ford pickups. They are designed to use ATF in a lot of their systems. Besides manual transmissions (and automatics), ATF is used as fluids in the power steering, transfer case, rear differential, and front differential systems. Makes things a lot simpler. Keep up with the interesting videos.

Sarah, thank you for helping me. My 20 year old was having problems learning to drive my 90 Miata 5 speed. I took your advice and took my son to a huge parking lot, got out of the car with a Whopper Meal and Large Drink and foldable chair, and left him with the car for two hours. He finally got the hang of it without the pressure of me being in the car. Today we are going to hit some backroads and get him into 3rd and 4th gears. 👍. Victor (and Jennie).

I owned a couple cars that used ATF in their manual transmissions, but they were small front-drivers, so I wouldn't expect that in an Xterra. I would imagine it's more like the Dodge Dakota I had the used traditional gear lube. My theory on the leaky clutch master cylinder is a cheap replacement part improperly installed, but it's all good now! Being the mature guy I am, there's no way I would be able to resist a few donuts in that dirt area 😁

I feel like you said you weren't going to, but I know you want to take a polisher to it, I know it won't get rid of all the scratches but I I think it would cut back a lot of them and buff up the clear nicely!

Don't forget to clean the ukulele bolt.

Reminded me when my older brother taught me how to drive on a shit manual transmission Sentra with a very heavy clutch. As a younger brother this is something truly appreciated!

I had an issue with two reman rack and pinions leaking because of bad processing. I ended getting one from the dealer. Should have done that in the beginning. You’d hate working on my 99 4RUNNER. Living in Maine, I have to spray the frame with Fluid Film each year to stop rust. It’s pretty slimy underneath!

Teaching your sister the same way I taught my daughter to drive and putting degreaser in the foam gun are many of the reasons I knew this channel was for me.

I had the same issue in my old F150. The clutch slave cyllinder was blown out. I drove it from norfolk to detroit with no clutch. Id stop for gas and fill the clutch master with fluid abd Id get just enough shifts to get it into 5th on tbe highway before the clutch was totally out. Idk how I got so lucky to make it through Richmond and D.C. without hitting a traffic jam but I made it without having to pull it over once. Good Times!!

4:35 Ratcheting flair wrenches are already available, at least in Germany by a brand called Wera named Wera Joker. These are real high quality tools, but they have their price.

They make speed flare wrenches. It's like a 1/2 open flare wrench that you can speed loosen/tighten.

Hi Sarah, you ought to have your sister try four wheel drive, especially low range. That's kind of an interesting experience the first time.

I taught my ex how to drive standard in a large gravel parking lot on a hill. I told her if she can take off uphill without spinning the tires, she knows the hard part. The rest is easy. It took about 30 mins. From that day forward, she was a great manual driver.

That clutch cylinder had all issues it could have 😳 Nailed the only benefit of having a oil leek 😁👍
