i believe that inklings are 5 feet tall (or more) because in one of the sunken scrolls you can see the evolutionary journey of inklings and how much bigger they are than actual squids

Welllll during Octo expansion, marina tries to track ur location to see where you are in the deep sea metro the first time cuddlefish turns on the walkie-talkie. She also said the coordinates are so weird that it you could be in a different dimension for all we know. So maybe the snes and game boy were massive in specific dimensions?

Well if this helps, there are birds in game that seem to imply that the inklings are five feet and also the trees

There’s one thing that I haven’t heard from anyone yet: Inklings HAVE to be small because of basic physics. Because weight scales with the cube of length, a human-sized creature with no bones wouldn’t be able to stand up. It’s the same reason why ants are able to carry eight times their weight, but nothing big even comes close to that strength. Coupled with the fact that inklings can hold comparatively giant things like the ultra stamp, they would have to be pretty tiny.

About the hair: You shouldn't measure it. Their hitbox doesn't include the hair. You get no disadvantage by choosing to play as the Octoling with an afro

I think that the food things in Salmon Run are purposefully made to be huge, from what I recall they are statues made by the salmonids. Remember, salmonids are almost the size of inklings, so inklings being tiny wouldn't make sense considering the size of salmon

In the Octo expansion, in one of chat logs (I think the 2nd), Marina states that due to the strong magnetic field around the metro it's practically "another dimension." She also says this magnetic field is enough to "warp spacetime." We already know the Octarians have access to extremely complicated and almost magical seeming sciences, so my theory is the reason so many things seem so huge is do to reality warping. The giant food in salmon run? Radioactivity like you said. Shellendorf Institute? There are humans that are that are 6+ feet tall and the Great Zapfish is likely and electric catfish enlarged by radioactivity. The weapons? Sheldon and his family clearly talent in weapon making, so I don't really see how it really plays into this. I'm sorry this comment was so lengthy but I hope you read the whole thing. Edit: The deep sea metro accommodates for the larger passengers and employees you see, Judd's size changing is artistic interpretation, and NILS Statue is seemingly a modified Statue of Liberty.

You missed the fact that the inklings being able to jump 5 feet could be referring to super jumping. That alone COULD change a lot of theories!!

Inklings and Octoling slowly became different sizes over the ages adapting to the very little land and on one year they were 1-2 feet tall then suddenly every inkling was growing to 4-5 feet tall

To be fair, in the Octo Expansion, those items are also FLOATING, in midair, along with everything else in the test chambers! Something tells me physics gets screwy in the Deep Sea Metro. And octarian underground domes too. Maybe the nuclear war messed with the physics of the Splatoon universe?

Imagine if Nintendo gives us a height selector in Splatoon 3. That would be so cool!

Holding an N-Zap in person despite having somewhat larger hands it’s more or less the same grip they have. Unless Sheldon made his own downscaled version of the N-Zap I believe it’s safe to assume inklings are roughly the same height as a human kid maybe a bit smaller. As for why the human skeleton is much larger it might only because they purposely enlarged the model so you’d actually be able to see it from the stage and is not made to scale (similar to how the jellyfish in the background of stages are larger than what they are in the plaza.)

Whst if the great zapfish is a long electric catfish that grew to enormous sizes due to radiation? The objects in octo exp. Could be huge because you're in a weird alternate dimension, and marina even backed this up... somewhere in octo exp.. Or this could be game design not wanting to be observable

normally, i would think squids are 1-2 feet, because of the human skeleton we saw compared to the inkling. but what if the human skull was just built with materials, and it's not actually a human skull? or what if Nintendo just made the model bigger so you could see it from the map?

Honestly while the average height is 150 cm, the inklings seen her are pretty much teenagers. From behavior to looks to lore stating that they gain the ability to turn humanoid at ~14. And then there Cuttlefish, who while you always are about the same height as, is BENT *90 DEGREES* . Meaning that before he was too old to stand straight he was probably taller than the player.

Alright, not sure if you’ll come back to this video (probably not), but the doors in Alterna would likely be human-sized. The average door is 8-feet and the average human is around 5.9. Based on the doors in Cryogenic Hopetown humans are around 1 2/3 inklings tall. Or maybe Alterna has special doors.

Okay, I'll put down my two cents. The whole "Inklings (and Octolings) are around 5 feet" might just be them being scaled up for Smash. However, I did notice from OmarIsForReal that an Inkling is not much bigger than a Gameboy (for reference, I'm only going by what's in the museum and not in the Octo Expansion).

I've always thought that the inkling kids/teens we play as are a lot smaller than adult inklings. Like adults are around 5 feet and kids are around 3 or so feet. This kinda makes sense why they grow so much like that cuz they start out as a little tiny baby squid and grow into a fully developed humanoid inkling in just 14 years. Maybe even less. Another theory I've seen is that as they get older they become more and more human like, growing a slightly stiffer skeletal structure maybe, slightly losing the ability to go into squid form etc. Why else would the squidbeak splatoon look for kids to fight octarians? Because adults wouldn't be able to fight in the ink as effectively as kids. Idk if I really agree with that one tho. I do think inklings get taller as they grow up tho Edit: more evidence as to why they may grow to about 5 feet is that the shop doors in the square are huge for the inklings, like they're designed for something way bigger. Like adult inklings too. They could he designed for the diverse amount of sea creatures as well I suppose, but still. I doubt very many sea creatures would reach 5 or so feet tall

I always have to think about the "Inklings can leap 5 ft" What if they meant the Super Jump- you know, the jump in battle, where they leap into the air really really high to jump to a teammate or beacon... Either way I think 5 ft is the most consistent of the bunch. It even has a developer guess on its side. And an official artbook. And then some proof. Even though it'd be more realistic for them to be at around 1-2 ft.

My theory: So in Salmon run, the chums are just regular sized shrimps, the cohocks are oversized shrimps, and the shrimpies (small shrimps) are just baby shrimp. SOOOO, we are about a little larger than a regular shrimp, which is about Pearls size because because of a line in the end of the news from Marina “Maybe they mistake you for a chum.” SO WE ARE 5FT. This is just my theory, not a fact,

Okay so here is my theory, feel free to disagree because it’s really dumb. The giant gamecube from the deapsee metro could be attempts from octolings to build weapons out of them thinking that indeed that was their purpose but failed badly and just put them there, the blender from Tartar could have this explanation as well but in this case he succeeded because in the pearl fight he used a bunch of them to fire the laser. That would explain why they are so big. Also the comparison from the megalodon and the inkling could be right, some measurements they took about it, the great zapfish could be just a new specie formed by the radiation like the food from salmon run. In the museum I think that the developers just didn’t tried to put the inklings down there so they modeled it as big as they could so you could see it from the distance. The big ass door from the octo expansion... I don’t know about you but those doors can be really big so I won’t take it so seriously. So, in summary I think they are 5 feet tall.

now that splatoon 3 has released, we have figured out more about the lore. we figured out that humans made special crystals that could collect thoughts and project them into an image. this would likely be used for the backgrounds of levels meaning that the inkling is likely not an inch tall. this could have also been used for most other backgrounds and could mean that the only likely option is that inklings and octolings are 5 feet tall

I think it has become clear in Splat 3s story mode, as long as the structures there are standard to modern human dimensions, then 5 ft is probably correct. Considering the lore from story mode, too, it makes sense how there can be such gigantic modern objects. That game really answers many questions from the Splatoon series, doesn't it?

Theory: It could be that the humans were so advanced back then that they were able to create weapons that were reality shifting and could mess with the atomic structure of things. In which can explain the "Octo Expansion" Gameboy's, NES', etc, the salmon run food items, and other things.

Simplified: The evidence in game is inconsistent to be able to deduce the height of Inklings/Octolings. In all honesty, I don't have an issue with them being as tall as humans due to evolution. I will say though their body proportions would be a bit odd for their height though.

I've got another dimension: in octo expansion,salmon run and campeign you can see some fish eggs,which I think are supposed to be about the same size as caviar(?) an Inkling is about 4 times as big as fish eggs,wich are 0.24 to 6.5 mm big,wich would mean,that they are in the mm area,so even smaller,than the smallest height you suggested (1 - 24mm).

The Clash Blaster is the same size as a normal gun (when compared to an inkling) But, it's literally just a pencil sharpener with crayons taped to it. Both of those things are relatively small to us, but to an inkling, require two hands to hold.

I feel like the best way to solve this would be just to jump, measure the value of g in pixels/frame^2, set up a dimensional analysis comparing it to the actual value of g (9.81m/s^2), and solve for the number of pixels per meter to get a nice pixel-to-meter ratio with which to measure inklings. g wouldn't change significantly in 12,000 years, at least not without all life on Earth going extinct due to some massive collision removing a significant chunk of the Earth's mass or significantly changing its radius.

My theory is 5 feet. The inkling is actually smaller than the jellies at Shellendorf Institute because it is designed to be viewed far away. So if you measure the height of the jellies in the plaza and proportion them according to the jellies at Shellendorf then you can measure the human using the jellies height accurately. I think that the zapfish, consoles, and giant food are all just, giant and aren’t really meant to be observed as regular. But all in all we really don’t know. 5 feet does seem accurate

I know this is 3 years old but in Splatoon 3 there's a chair in Grizzco that is about the size of the player character so that might help💀

I was playing the octo expansion and discovered the hall in the beginning subway with the telephone has octoling sized lockers on one end and a giant door on the other side. Assuming the new inhabitants couldn’t do much about changing the underground structure due to it becoming unstable and collapsing, it’s probably human sized and the octoling would probably have to jump to grab or turn the handle. So maybe the size of a grown cat standing on its hind legs?

About NES/SNES/Gameboy at Octo Expansion dimensions. In every game theory we have to differ the notions like "In-game fact" and "Easter egg". Probably, in Octo Expansion these consoles are just easter eggs, so we can't use it as an argument in theory.

haven't watched the video yet but in the octo expansion in the central station there's this big door at the end of the hallway which makes me believe inklings/octolings are smaller than humans edit: the giant consoles on the octo expansion levels are probably just for aesthetic tbh, shellendorf institute's human skeleton is also probably sized up to make it more clear since it's literally out of bounds, you could calculate those jellyfish's heights to the ones in the square and then find out how tall an inkling would be next to those objects down there

In my opinion/theory: Radiation probably did effect some things, and we can see them fit through smaller things (as in squid form, probably because of the fact they have ink in them) so maybe they can change their size. I've seen some comments talk about how the deep sea metro could be another dimension or something like that where it doesn't follow the same laws. So maybe they are 5 - 6 feet tall, but in some cases where the laws may be different (like during salmon run and the dlc) they could be different sizes. To me they seem like they would be 5 - 6 ft tall since they have evolved into a more human like species, and honestly that's what I'll stick with. I do believe though since they are a species, some could be smaller or taller than others just like how humans are. (I'm not going through the tentacles since some people count them others don't.)

I have come here to point out a flaw in your great zapfish explaination! Splatoon is several thousand years in the future. Squids and Octopus have gained the ability to shape shift. Why wouldn’t a electric catfish be able to grow to the size of a skyscraper in that time? I guess that doesn’t invalidate this video, BUT I pointed out a flaw in a theory by someone who I don’t know on the internet and at the end of the day what else really matters?😅

To be honest, Inklings and Octolings may have the same height as the average human. Think about it, Inklings literally evolved to become humans with squid features, and the same goes for Octolings, and Nintendo isn't really well-known when it comes to things such as consistency or logic. Take Mario without a belly button, or Link without nipples as examples. I prefer to believe that Inklings and Humans are mostly the same in almost every possible thing. I say "almost" because there's unique traits to each one of them. We can't turn into a cute squid, can we? Well, that's my opinion. I don't really have much else to say, except Inklings are pretty much humans with cute masks, pointy ears and tentacle hair. And they are, because, why wouldn't they be. It's Nintendo, after all. The same company that makes Mario look like a midget close to real people.

Also, Shellendorf Institutes cases down in the out of bounds are made bigger than supposed to (so are the jellies) because it is supposed to look like it is in existence since it is so far away in perspective.

The Splatoon 2 section of the NSO App tells you how many p you've inked, and relates it to real life areas. I did some (likely incorrect) math to figure out that 1p is around .081 square inches, or .206 square cm. That kinda helps to show you, if you ink just 1 p, that inklings are likely very small. And it's even using in-game measurements!

Interesting video but I have to point out one thing. When you make the comparison of the shark mural with the megalodon one, we can see that the numbers in both are diferent. If we assume the same measurement unit for both we can see that the size of the large shark in the mural aligns with the modern-day white shark there is in the representation of megalodon. Ence, this also support the squid-like size. I personally can dismiss the cartridges and consoles as meta-stuff while the giant food could not be food at all and instead be decorative sign-like objects. So I do think the squid-like size is the most likely personally.

I think the most reliable source is the 5 feet one, its the only one that has concrete evidence... The background elements seem to be sized up to be more visually interesting, the jellies look massive in the background of shellendorf when you get close to them, which probably means the background is an inaccurate size to be more visible. The OE systems are probably sized up to fit the a e s t h e t i c. and some doors are smassive probably both to fit other species that are much taller than inklings and for the same reason as shellendorf.

Apparently in current lore through the A-logs in Splatoon 3, apparently the "glass walls" are made from squid ink that can read minds. It's very likely given how similar these locations are to each other they are made from the same technology, thus these are likely psychedelic lingerings of times of old.

I’d just like to start out by saying I admire that even despite the obvious facts you still wanted to exsplore something you saw as a mystery, and it makes for some really entertaining content, and daisies manny interesting questions for viewers! But I would indeed like to give my imput here Nintendo has always been vary consistent with the night of charicters in there games, allot of what you pointed out makes some really good points but you have to remeber that the inklings don’t always know what sertinly human relics were used for, not to mention there sense of design is somewhat diffrent from ours, the big stuff you mentioned in the octo exspantions can obviously be boialed down to Jiangxi relics they made that size for a reason, witch is decoration. The same is likely true in salmon run, you don’t actualy think there’s just big food there above the water not rotting or something over time do you? Then there’s the matter of the grate zapfish, clearly it’s not the actual size of a real life electric catfish, it’s a huge eel thing, AND it flys in the sky, the whole point of the museum is to teach the player something, and all of the nights we see add up Then there’s the matter of the skeleton, the fact that the jellyfish are much bigger then what they actualy are should already tip you off that it’s a matter of perspective to the player to save up space fore the map, I think if the player was ment to actualy get up close to the skeleton they would have been scailed the right way And then there’s the train station door, this one use to stump me too but humans have been gone for a really long time, long enugh for theses sea creatures to evolve and build there own civilization around there own nights, inkopolice looks like a really small newyork , however in an underground train station everything is likely ment to fit a few diffrent times of undersea creatures, like the angle fish that basicly tower over your charicter, witch is a whole other thing entirely When building there world they dident just have to think about the size of themselves, they had to think about the size of other creatures too, witch is really impressive It kind of bothered me how unsure you were, and I couldent tell if maybe you wanted to beleave they were way smaller then what we saw...? Or if you were just posing a question, I’d personally like to know witch height you like to beleave the most!! well, salmonid sculptures are probably just to resemble food. there are in-game trees, no way corn could be that much larger than a tree... they also could just have up-scaled human items to suit their need. the octo expansion items are likely just for decoration.

From the fact that TarTar is a human creation, to be a helper to the Professor, he wouldn't be too much different in size than his creator. And since TarTar is a bit bigger than an Inkling/Octoling, I'd say Inklings are around Human height.

I have one of two theories. Radiation caused things like the skeleton and zapfish to grow, or inklings have their own perspective of height and they are five inkling feet tall.

the shellendorf OoB thing might be inconclusive because going out of bounds doesn’t change the size of your character in proportion to the out of bounds objects. also the door in deepsea metro might not be meant exclusively for inklings. you saw that big boi jelly thing on the metro train right?? the door is most likely meant to be used by larger species

They're just floating game packs that are props to make references to other Nintendo things. Ps I'm not criticizing I still would have done research and everything and done that but since some of you were I'm just saying
