I remember when Pac Man first came out. I was so mystified and entranced that i was never the same again. That was after dumping quarter after quarter into Asteroids and thinking it couldn't get any better.
You left out that part of the story in which Pac-Man was called Puck Man in Japan but the name had to be changed for the US market due to intervention of the distributor. The fear was that kids would scribble on the decals of the arcade machine and change the "P" in the name to a different letter.
