@@tyvarridag4171 If that's the case then you've never paid for classes. That's like saying that you learned how to ride a bike by reading books about it and you're never going to learn balance by reading about it.
I agree 100% with you about acting classes but we know very well that there have been cases of people who are casted only by looks and they admit later on (even proudly) that they have never taken an acting class in their life, while naturally their lack of education on the craft SHOWS. That's just a commentary on the faux pas of the industry because we know these people do get hired from other people and that's what prompts a lot of young aspiring actors to even ask if they need an education or if they can "wing it"
@@joebushor6857 Renee Zellweger, Matthew McConaughey, Jan Michael Vincent, Jan Hooks had little or no formal training - they started small, got lucky and moved forward, luck and timing have big impact on your career trajectory
I’m 20 and I’ve finally decided to start acting, I’ve wanted to do it for so long, but was to worried about being judged for the opinion of it being an “unsafe career”. But I’m signing up for classes in 2 weeks and I’m so excited and your videos have been so helpful! I feel so ready to work hard to reach my dreams and your videos are giving mine so much motivation and easing my mind😁😁❤️
@@jeperp659 ITS GOING GREAT!! I had to drop out of classes for a bit because I had to get a tonsillectomy and couldn’t afford classes atm. I’ve been in my first indie film, 2 musicals, and a local commercial that was paid!! I also have an IMDb credit for the indie film The Devils Children!
@@ogpara5509 That amazing! Its really inspirational for me to see how far you’ve come! I really want to take acting classes and learn voice and movement but social anxieties refrain me from ever signing up for classes. If there are any tips for me and other people with social anxieties to push through it I would really like to hear!
Hi Kurt, I live in Canada and signed up for online acting classes at the Houde School of Acting. Thank you so much for making these videos Kurt! They have helped so many people.
I love how you're willing to give your time and teach others about acting. I've currently signed up for the Zoom Classes online and is very excited for the Q and A sessions.
I'd say take acting classes to get a feel on how the system works. I'm taking one in the fall just to get my feet wet. I've done theater but since I want to pursue this craft seriously, I'd rather refresh myself.
you are correct about connections/networking. i joined my first acting class around 2019 and my coach gave me a pamphlet of agencies and headshot photographers to choose from. i took a break due to personal reasons but I’m glad i still have that trusted pamphlet to rely on for future references. i wanna go for my passions again.
Thank you for this. I actually thought about buying "Skill Share" Because they have many courses on acting taught by famous big name Hollywood A-list actors. However, like you said, listening to a video can never replace one-on-one in person feedback.
I decided I wanted to go to equine college before I realised I actually wanted to be an actor I chose sports science for my GCSEs but it’s only a two year course and for my last year I can choose acting or drama, which would be best for a beginner. I’m not the most confident but I can fake it till I make it 😂
Yesterday I went for an audition for college, acting, and It was also an interview/seminar. One of the questions that I asked that interest me was “Will this acting program give us a job at the end of the semester?” The teacher simply said “no we just train you to become a professional actor once you’ve finish this program you’re on your own”. I’ve come to realize that •college for acting• isn’t for me. I rather focus my time with my local acting school rather than attending 2 years for college and paying 6k each semester. My local acting club can assist me on getting roles, agents and etc. Way less cost than college… This channel is so underrated, your vids are so educational. Thanks kurt
@@corm1000 at least the teacher was honest, college training can help give you showcases and placement help - there are at least 20 outstanding college programs in drama, they're competitive, expensive, and demanding ie. NYU, Yale,, Northwestern etc.
for me, it’s simple. if you truly wanna be an actor, take classes! there’s always things you can learn that will only be taught in a class. and ALSO NETWORKING IS KEY!! We’re in one of the most competitive industries in the world! You have to be doing anything you can if you want to succeed! even if that means paying for classes and pricey headshots. that’s just how it works
Thank you for all this great advice! I had an idea for a video you could make...one on headshots 101. Basically how you should look, dress, etc in order to not spend all the money and get something you aren't happy with. Me, personally, am in the Seattle market and need new headshots. Need a new acting class too.
omg! i just seen Greenland the movie and recognize your face. How awesome you were the C -17 loadmaster to tell Gerard Butler to sit down and then he told you to open the plane. That is awesome you got to be a part of such an amazing movie. I loved that movie. And even though it was just one scene that scene was everything. Sorry that you got blown up though 😂😂😂 I hope to see you in future movies and shows. Keep up the great work!! Thanks for the inspiration videos. I look forward to see where this takes me😁
Your such a lifesaver, Kurt! Thank you, thank you, thank you! So much. If it weren't for you, then I'd probably wouldn't have known almost all these facts apart from what I already knew. It's just crazy how you make it sooo interesting to learn about. Especially cause I really, really wanna start acting, but I know its gonna have a lot of work to take on, and it's gonna cause many complications, but what I really want is just to have a job that I love, and you've made me love it even more! Thanks to you because if you weren't here teaching all these facts to people, then I'd probably have to find someone that actually makes it so much fun to learn. So, I just want to say thank you, Kurt.
I'll probably see you in Cleveland 🙂 I graduate college 4 months before the date so I'll be excited to meet you and the crew, let's believe that I'll be financially stable to make the booking.
There’s hardly anything here in my city (Christchurch) The good ones that area available are in Wellington (where Weta Digital is) and Auckland where most acting talent in New Zealand is. I’m convinced about taking classes now but like you said in one of your videos, sacrifice is a cost that must be considered if I want a career out of it.
Hi Kurt, can you please make a video on when to change representation? Like how does one know when changing might be a good idea, versus staying or acquiring additional representation?
I'm a firm believer that you know people need to make a living so these coaches need to get money some how, however taking an acting class is not the be all and end all. I learn more from this channel and videos then anything else to be honest.
I just found you channel a little over a week ago, and everything you’ve said and been through is truly and inspiration and has helped me to think out a much clearer plan than I would have thought of on my own. All the advice and realism in how you present things really paints an amazing picture and I wanted to thank you for that. Here’s hoping that me starting at age 30, I can reach whatever goals I set before myself and I do hope to see you on set one day!
Robert Duvall, Robert Wisdom and Larry Moss get coached by Tim Phillips in ATL. The youngest of those men is 67, all 3 get direct offers and they all get coaching.
Practicing doesn’t need to require spending money for entry, like practicing with a team. Practicing is different than professional education and training. Practice after pro training should be in the form of free collaboration.
Take some classes to be assessed for strengths and weaknesses . It will also help make you more comfortable and prepared for your Auditions , the biggest hurdle to Jump is not being NERVOUS ! My first audition was so nerve racking i sped through my lines like Steve Carrell in Bruce Almighty ; )
God I wish I could I make it to cobra kai on screen its all i ever think about nowadays ever since I watched the show it seems so badass to be apart of
I just signed up for acting classes in my town and I must say, I have only one other studio,of this one is not for me. I hope everything will go well and I'll gain more knowlege ^^
They say there are a lot of people in Hollywood with talent. As a struggling actor for many years I thought so too as I saw many more skilled than I was. Until I had a real eye opening experience in a play I was in 20 years ago. From being in that play I discovered that actually nobody has much talent based on the performance of an actress in that play. This woman was the best actress I had ever seen. Her performance made all the academy award actresses I had ever seen in films put together look like nothing compared to this woman’s talent. We had rehearsed for months and a few days before the performance the lead actress got sick. The producers didn’t want to scrap the play so they held some quick auditions for a replacement. I was at the auditions when hundreds of actresses showed up. They were good but nothing special. One actress was given a ride by her older sister who sat watching the auditions. The director kept saying No, No you are playing an aging prostitute reflecting on the mistakes in her life. You are not believable. At a break the actress with the sister wanted to practice so she gave the script to her sister to work on it with her. It was like lightening once in a lifetime. The sister was unbelievable. Everyone, the director the producer the whole cast stopped and watched. The director asked the sister to read the lead part. She put the script down and said she didn’t need it as she had memorized it by listening to the women auditioning. She did the part cold with not having ever rehearsed it. It was unbelievable. Her acting, but it really was not acting, because she BECAME the prostitute, was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. After doing some of the lines she would stop and ask if it was ok if she did it again but change some of it because she said as written it was not how the real Lola would have responded. The writer was there and remarked she was actually improving the lines for the part. Everyone asked her how she did that. She said script only captured 80% of the character and when she acted and became the character she added the 20% that was missing to make Lola a whole person. The director immediately dismissed the other actresses auditioning for the part and said she had it. Then he said to her tell me the truth. NO actress in the entire world can do what you did without months of rehearsal but it was an original play never done before so she couldn’t have seen the script before. Everyone asked how did she do it. She said when she was 7 years old her mother took her to a broadway play. On seeing it once she memorized all the songs in it and performed them on the subway coming home. She said people clapped then asked her to do some of the speaking parts. She did the lead actress then did it again and added some lines because she said that was not what she thought the character would say. She then told everyone she went to see Sweeney Todd with her sister. She said the actress doing Mrs. Lovett was terrible and was just a funny caricature of the real Mrs. Lovett. The real person was a much darker evil person. Everyone then asked her to do Mrs. Lovett. She did and I have never been so scared in my whole life. I was afraid to turn my back on her after that because I was afraid. On the day of the performance of the play only about 20 people showed up and there was only one performance. This woman’s performance was earth shattering. All the actors and actresses in the play said they gave the best performance of their lives due to acting with her. I had some lines with her and it was the best acting I ever did in my life due to interacting with her. They said she lifted the whole company up. After the play all she could do was console her sister that she didn’t get the part. She told her sister I am a language teacher and do acting for fun. I have never seen anyone ever before or since with a hundredth of the acting talent this woman had. She has never been in a single movie or TV show. If she had she would put everybody to shame with her amazing unique talent. This woman really IS the one in a million. The highlight of my whole life was reading my 5 lines with her.
Can you make a vid on how you went from software development to acting? I just graduated from college as a CS major but I want to be an actor in a few years
Hi Kurt, Happy Holidays! Thank you for the advice/tips on acting, I would love to know if you have any recommendations for acting classes in the NY area that are legit, worth the price maybe a bit affordable? I was majoring in Theatre and didn’t get to finish and would like to learn and train more.
Kurt, thank you for all of your informative videos. Sharing your knowledge is more appreciated than you may know, especially during these pandemic times. In case you need or want a topic to touch base on in another video, I was curious if you knew how to go about having a "Stage Name". That's one thing I would love to hear all the details about. There are so many questions with stage names. I am dropping last name (Koziara) and using my middle name plus an S (Andrews). I've had nothing but trouble with my last name my whole life lol. Thanks again! PS, my wife and I were watching Holidate the other night, and I yelled "Hey it's Kurt". She asked "Who the hell is Kurt?". Lol good to see you in another film! Merry Christmas!
Nobody ever claims to be a doctor who has not studied medicine (except in the case of a scam). nobody claims to be an engineer who has not studied mechanics, electronics, etc. But people claim to be artists or actors without having studied either subject or without having any idea what it is really all about. A genuine artist should have enough love of their craft that they're will to study & train for it. Sure there's been people like Eddie Van Halen but the difference is that he had passion for his craft; not just an obsession with fame. I think these two things are key ingredients; have passion for the craft itself but also be teachable and seek out the best training you can afford. Imagine an auto mechanic who was only able to fix cars when he got "lucky".
Hii sir, I'm from India and I am planning to take admission in US acting school. Can you make video on best and low budget acting schools in US. Because your channel is the best on RU-vid for acting career I have found so far..💙
I live in Ohio and it's actually 2 1/2 hrs away from Cleveland and I would like to move out of the state due to low ability of experience being offered and I was wondering how much the classes cost in Atlanta or in Cleveland to get my experience
Many acting schools are offering classes via zoom. Here are a couple I recommend Houde School of Acting: www.houdeschoolofacting.com/online-registration Drama Inc: dramainc.net/open-classes/
I literally went to an acting class and the teacher told me that the best way to learn how to act is to just go out and act. I've been having a question about acting classes ever since.
I want to be in BMF with 50 cent thats my short term goal from going to school work hard and star in my own movie and TV series one day and gain stage presence for my music career
Aloha Kurt. I got the your email for this video and I thought it was funny that you mentioned “Hawai’i”. I actually live on the Garden Island of Kaua’i where the original “Jurassic Park” movie was filmed on. Anyhow, I truly appreciate your videos and I’m an avid follower of your RU-vid channel. Keep up with the informative videos. Stay safe out there and maybe one day, I’ll see you on set here in Hawai’i. 🤙🏽
What about becoming a film director/cinematographer and you want to act as a career, do you need acting classes than? Considering that your not auditioning because your filming yourself as your career.
Omg you're so lucky. I live in indiana and my parents don't approve me wanting to become an actor so it's really hard. I'm thinking of moving to Atlanta when I'm 20 and have enough money so I can peruse acting
@@nayeonswife2942 you can move to any close place for acting, atlanta isn't the only place with acting classes. I hope you can become an actor and I wish you luck. :))
Sir I am a teenager from Indian so I started acting by my own and practicing front of mirror and getting better I just want to know that how can I apply for Hollywood
